Test setup: FreeBSD 8.1-prerelease, updated ports, in a machine with a PVR-500: tingo@kg-fil$ uname -a FreeBSD kg-fil.kg4.no 8.1-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 8.1-PRERELEASE #4: Fri May 21 00:20:01 CEST 2010 root@kg-fil.kg4.no:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64 The mythtv port installed fine (building all of the dependecies took time, but thats the way it is), but at the end I was presented with this: ===> Registering installation for mythtv-0.23 ===> SECURITY REPORT: This port has installed the following files which may act as network servers and may therefore pose a remote security risk to the system. /usr/local/lib/libmythlivemedia-0.23.so.0.23.0 /usr/local/lib/libmythhdhomerun-0.23.so.0.23.0 /usr/local/lib/libmythdb-0.23.so.0.23.0 /usr/local/lib/libmythavformat-0.23.so.0.23.0 This port has installed the following startup scripts which may cause these network services to be started at boot time. /usr/local/etc/rc.d/mythbackend If there are vulnerabilities in these programs there may be a security risk to the system. The files is there: root@kg-fil# pwd /usr/ports/multimedia/mythtv root@kg-fil# more work/pkg-message ********** MythTV has now been installed, but it still needs to be configured. 1. To create the database, use the following command: mysql -uroot -p < /usr/local/share/mythtv/database/mc.sql 2. Next, run mythtv-setup. See http://www.mythtv.org/docs/ for more information. ********** I do not know why it wasn't displayed. 1) mythtv-setup on the "Video Sources" setup, aftet naming my video source ("TV") and selecting a grabber - Norway (beta) (xmltv), I can't get it to run the correct xmltv configure command. Every time it seems to pick a new grabber at random. Ok, enough of that, I'll just do this manually. (Whether or not this is related to version 0.5.53 of xmltv, I don't know) 2) mythfilldatabase ok, xmltv 0.5.53 doesn't work for me (and I should have remembered), so I just portdowngfrade it to 0.5.52 and apply my patches for 0.5.56. After that, mythfilldatabase works as it should. 3) mythfrontend - most things seem to work - LiveTV dos not work. Shortly after my trouble report about Grip, on March 20, the maintainer of Grip was kind enough to fix the problem that caused Grip to fail on my installation. Regretfully, I was unable to report that good news. I am able to report this bad news: Grip 3.3.1, the development version, now fails on the same machine: uname -a FreeBSD whisperer.chthonixia.net 8.0-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE-p2 #0: Sat May 15 11:47:55 EDT 2010 root@whisperer.chthonixia.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/WHISPERER amd64 This is a fresh ports tree, with no obvious failures related to Grip in the recent portupgrade. After upgrading Grip using portupgrade, Grip simply dumped core; after reinstalling Grip, I could see a brief dialog box in which I was told "This is a development version; if you have issues, please revert to a stable version." So, three things: my trouble report, and my request: can someone please provide me with a pointer to an FAQ for reverting to an earlier version of a port, in case the maintainer cannot remedy this latest issue? I can't seem to find one. Finally, if there is some sort of debugging build for Grip I can install, or a backtrace I can obtain, please let me know and I'll look at doing that. Thanks for any assistance, and best regards, Joe From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sun May 23 23:54:53 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 53F9C106566C for ; Sun, 23 May 2010 23:54:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from thalia-smout.broadpark.no (thalia-smout.broadpark.no [80.202.8.21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0FCDD8FC0C for ; Sun, 23 May 2010 23:54:52 +0000 (UTC) MIME-version: 1.0 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII Received: from ignis-smin.broadpark.no ([unknown] [80.202.8.11]) by thalia-smout.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-12.01 64bit (built Oct 15 2009)) with ESMTP id <0L2W00AD7D3FD100@thalia-smout.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 24 May 2010 01:54:51 +0200 (CEST) Received: from kg-v2.kg4.no ([unknown] [80.203.92.186]) by ignis-smin.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-12.01 64bit (built Oct 15 2009)) with SMTP id <0L2W00EVOD3FCMN0@ignis-smin.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 24 May 2010 01:54:51 +0200 (CEST) Date: Mon, 24 May 2010 01:54:51 +0200 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Message-id: <20100524015451.e2d3cf5f.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-reply-to: <20100523234433.GA95664@chanas.pair.com> References: <20100523234433.GA95664@chanas.pair.com> X-Mailer: Sylpheed 3.0.2 (GTK+ 2.20.1; amd64-portbld-freebsd8.0) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq; m"_0v; ~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Cc: Subject: Re: Grip 3.3.1 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 23 May 2010 23:54:53 -0000 On Sun, 23 May 2010 19:44:33 -0400 "J. As I don't know all the history and details of the cxm/prvxxx driver I hope that someone can help me on this. Having such a hardware to play around with would probably also help but as i read from other posts you are currently working on updating the cxm driver to FreeBSD 8.x. I've cc'd grog@ and usleepless as they did a lot of work on the cxm driver in the past so probably they have something to say about it. >From what i have read the cxm driver has some kind of v4l support so the above message makes sense because you obviously have configured mythtv to use v4l. What I don't know is how it worked in the past. Do you have such an output from 0.21 where it works and does it look different? The v4l support is enabled in mythtv and it does at least work with webcamd so probably they have changed something in the mythtv code that the cxm driver does not support yet. I have also found the following link in the mythtv pkg-descr to a different version of the cxm driver. It looks like this version is a few weeks newer then what is in ports as pvrxxx so does anyone know what the difference is? http://usleepless.110mb.com/pvrxxx_port-10042007.tgz -- Bernhard Froehlich http://www.bluelife.at/ From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 25 10:07:15 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4B3AF106566C; Tue, 25 May 2010 10:07:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from stark@mapper.nl) Received: from smtp-out1.tiscali.nl (smtp-out1.tiscali.nl [195.241.79.176]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B93DC8FC1A; Tue, 25 May 2010 10:07:14 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [82.170.17.27] (helo=mapper.nl) by smtp-out1.tiscali.nl with esmtp (Exim) (envelope-from ) id 1OGr2X-0007Qf-Ee; Tue, 25 May 2010 12:07:13 +0200 Received: from pc2844lv.mapper.nl ([10.58.235.127]) by mapper.nl with esmtp (Exim 4.71 (FreeBSD)) (envelope-from ) id 1OGr27-0003Zv-FZ; Tue, 25 May 2010 12:06:47 +0200 Message-ID: <4BFBA130.6060506@mapper.nl> Date: Tue, 25 May 2010 12:06:40 +0200 From: Mark Stapper User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 Thunderbird/3.0.4 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Garrett Cooper References: <4BF1891F.3040704@mapper.nl> <4BF23029.80104@mapper.nl> In-Reply-To: <4BF23029.80104@mapper.nl> X-Enigmail-Version: 1.0.1 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="------------enig7C28809281F3CDDC48ED2E0B" Cc: stable@freebsd.org, multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Buzzing snd_emu10kx enabled card with r206173 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 25 May 2010 10:07:15 -0000 This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 2440 and 3156) --------------enig7C28809281F3CDDC48ED2E0B Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On 18/05/2010 08:14, Mark Stapper wrote: > On 18/05/2010 00:22, Garrett Cooper wrote: > =20 >> On Mon, May 17, 2010 at 11:21 AM, Mark Stapper wrote= : >> =20 >> =20 >>> On 12/04/2010 16:29, Garrett Cooper wrote: >>> =20 >>> =20 >>>> On Tue, Apr 6, 2010 at 3:39 AM, Garrett Cooper = wrote: >>>> >>>> =20 >>>> =20 >>>>> On Mon, Apr 5, 2010 at 12:26 PM, Garrett Cooper wrote: >>>>> >>>>> =20 >>>>> =20 >>>>>> On Mon, Apr 5, 2010 at 11:22 AM, Garrett Cooper wrote: >>>>>> >>>>>> =20 >>>>>> =20 >>>>>>> Hi, >>>>>>> When I first installed FreeBSD on this machine, I had a heck o= f a >>>>>>> time getting the soundcard's PCM channel to function properly. With the last update, it now provides libmpdec.so. About 15 ports currently use the older shared library provided by audio/libmpcdec (maintained by multimedia@, CCed). For now, mutual CONFLICTS are registered. What I'm planning to do is update all depending ports to use audio/musepack, thus making audio/libmpcdec obsolete. I have some questions before I'll start working on this task: - Are there any objections to deprecating libmpcdec and replacing it by musepack? According to the website, libmpcdec version is "Old. Refer to above SV8 lib (compatible with SV7)". After creating a patch for updating and testing: - Should I ask the maintainers of the affected ports for approval? I've tested musicpd and vlc so far and update was pretty straight-forward: replace LIB_DEPENDS+= mpcdec.5:${PORTSDIR}/audio/libmpcdec by LIB_DEPENDS+= mpcdec.7:${PORTSDIR}/audio/musepack and bump the port revision. Because both ports conflict, upgrading needs manual intervention. I guess I should prepare an entry for UPDATING? Anything I forgot or other thoughts? -- Stefan From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat May 29 20:12:02 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C4F301065673 for ; Sat, 29 May 2010 20:12:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from shuvaev@physik.uni-wuerzburg.de) Received: from mailrelay.rz.uni-wuerzburg.de (mailrelay.rz.uni-wuerzburg.de [132.187.3.28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 790018FC19 for ; Sat, 29 May 2010 20:12:02 +0000 (UTC) Received: from virusscan.mail (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mailrelay.mail (Postfix) with ESMTP id 336D15AC85; Sat, 29 May 2010 21:48:14 +0200 (CEST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by virusscan.mail (Postfix) with ESMTP id 310B35AC71; Sat, 29 May 2010 21:48:14 +0200 (CEST) X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new at uni-wuerzburg.de Received: from mail.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de (wthp192.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de [132.187.40.192]) by mailmaster.uni-wuerzburg.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0CFA05CFA9; Sat, 29 May 2010 21:48:14 +0200 (CEST) Received: from wep4035.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de ([132.187.37.35]) by mail.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de (Lotus Domino Release 8.5.1FP2HF71) with ESMTP id 2010052921481259-109832 ; Sat, 29 May 2010 21:48:12 +0200 Date: Sat, 29 May 2010 21:48:12 +0200 From: Alexey Shuvaev To: Stefan Ehmann Message-ID: <20100529194812.GA9598@wep4035.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de> References: <201005291250.31005.shoesoft@gmx.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <201005291250.31005.shoesoft@gmx.net> Organization: Universitaet Wuerzburg User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) X-MIMETrack: Itemize by SMTP Server on domino1/uni-wuerzburg(Release 8.5.1FP2HF71 | April 5, 2010) at 05/29/2010 09:48:13 PM, Serialize by Router on domino1/uni-wuerzburg(Release 8.5.1FP2HF71 | April 5, 2010) at 05/29/2010 09:48:13 PM, Serialize complete at 05/29/2010 09:48:13 PM Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org, freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Subject: Re: replacing audio/libmpcdec by audio/musepack X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 29 May 2010 20:12:02 -0000 On Sat, May 29, 2010 at 12:50:30PM +0200, Stefan Ehmann wrote: > Hi, > > I'm the maintainer of audio/musepack. Is this dependency non-avoidable? 0.02$, Alexey.
