I = realize how little sense this makes, so I'm going to grab some more G4 = boxes that we haven't touched yet and make sure I can replicate this = there before blaming software. -- Kevin From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 15 14:08:44 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CA6961065670 for ; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 14:08:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from super_bisquit@yahoo.com) Received: from n14.bullet.mail.mud.yahoo.com (n14.bullet.mail.mud.yahoo.com [68.142.206.41]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 848D28FC13 for ; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 14:08:44 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [68.142.194.243] by n14.bullet.mail.mud.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 15 Apr 2010 13:54:54 -0000 Received: from [67.195.9.83] by t1.bullet.mud.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 15 Apr 2010 13:49:27 -0000 Received: from [98.137.27.211] by t3.bullet.mail.gq1.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 15 Apr 2010 13:48:19 -0000 Received: from [127.0.0.1] by omp121.mail.gq1.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 15 Apr 2010 13:48:19 -0000 X-Yahoo-Newman-Property: ymail-3 X-Yahoo-Newman-Id: 586524.3463.bm@omp121.mail.gq1.yahoo.com Received: (qmail 36762 invoked by uid 60001); 15 Apr 2010 13:48:19 -0000 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=yahoo.com; s=s1024; t=1271339299; bh=J45KWmdXb56n6etgAdvZ2So4nEbQSpyqjImKcSED4xc=; h=Message-ID:X-YMail-OSG:Received:X-Mailer:Date:From:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type; b=kdQmhIhegwBJdocQBvoA+Q3IksVexhztqfoDSUbHRJrDium00Hz8L+gVjSispMrTBid1OSZtLtlERa4EbSOSkyBvn6RRpCH1sfl6xaFwoqmWwIGL8liI9DiQCa/UrC7A+CTqNMVRA/UZZiX7DAPgwdtwFZxFDC74NFQg1vQu6lM= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=Message-ID:X-YMail-OSG:Received:X-Mailer:Date:From:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type; b=gllSG26tMZzQJ8i4D+FoFmi3TQqwtu+Ne8bJ6t/TD7djpwfyu27Je5EPexFWYhyJvkedWLFxEZRTJZBqIcYfs8Ju3LqSunaWwnzHDwK9qR0gnnPGhlrQkpXefj889D4mfl3t1hC4aQ5/etY1QjBeGeKaigq02zZCd8XcIdY+G00=; Message-ID: <442536.36074.qm@web110105.mail.gq1.yahoo.com> X-YMail-OSG: 6cOD1nsVM1n_x2mw_sRl880q5rI9VnwmS.FS3dp_KwCu0kY u4qVLcumNAes2qiFkpJcZw7YzyV_Ganem6Z.cFINev.sH3GdGTOyiX.KB8xl BqYZPcWVlhQq6qgo909uE6blE9ypApSbXR6HoO5G.UEFn_viUHbQaexMGhcs QTgBRhxuapk.ujT7Qj9IKYrWJz6xHh5pZOZVjVkQuIDP11AAt_u6dn39MW7D BpE63k9cWNu892LuXophhM3QifCGKUyQ- Received: from [71.200.56.84] by web110105.mail.gq1.yahoo.com via HTTP; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 06:48:19 PDT X-Mailer: YahooMailClassic/10.1.9 YahooMailWebService/0.8.102.267879 Date: Thu, 15 Apr 2010 06:48:19 -0700 (PDT) From: Super Biscuit To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Subject: Powermac B&W G3 install status and questions X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 15 Apr 2010 14:08:44 -0000 I've been able to install 8.0 powerpc to a G3 with 384M RAM. It will have to be done through a Linux dmesg output. _______________________________________________ freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ppc To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ppc-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 15 17:39:35 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D47E31065676 for ; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 17:39:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from chmeeedalf@gmail.com) Received: from mail-bw0-f214.google.com (mail-bw0-f214.google.com [209.85.218.214]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 536098FC15 for ; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 17:39:33 +0000 (UTC) Received: by bwz6 with SMTP id 6so1486157bwz.13 for ; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 10:39:32 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:mime-version:sender:received:in-reply-to :references:date:x-google-sender-auth:received:message-id:subject :from:to:cc:content-type; bh=9A6l66zeAJf7+rr6GYJiP1szYL9oOmqZFFa+pDQIthk=; b=at9QjW4WnlW3M3YNplWQsK5UMoN4mS5PaUsLKXWDRgDyUwq+KN/Qt9l7/pg2YUFZwR 12b6CntYh6CuHHKpYlgz0QLo8e53PjremZG4nniwiDm7lnOndR5BnA+7oOZQAaaYIfes OnssGw5v87AoZ+MJVzTke2E+cCUTxqkZokNas= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:sender:in-reply-to:references:date :x-google-sender-auth:message-id:subject:from:to:cc:content-type; b=xWNYBnW0VRqBJwkKw3Ky/7ycF7IV67COHmOJTVvGdU5sFHKYzvwkqmBENrN3fnkqWI klZyBrLYDcPkkhW4d7enGqUDLXAmDDKSVTzB7x6P4R5ugjxlIkYCx7vcysRKBVdLP4KY WQ+DfUx8uImOvsfQzG1kNiha8eg7wnc1Pmr2I= MIME-Version: 1.0 Sender: chmeeedalf@gmail.com Received: by 10.204.135.133 with HTTP; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 10:39:32 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <97009.36549.qm@web110104.mail.gq1.yahoo.com> References: <97009.36549.qm@web110104.mail.gq1.yahoo.com> Date: Thu, 15 Apr 2010 13:39:32 -0400 X-Google-Sender-Auth: 84a10ea0b23d88ef Received: by 10.204.129.66 with SMTP id n2mr467977bks.101.1271353172442; Thu, 15 Apr 2010 10:39:32 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: From: Justin Hibbits To: Super Biscuit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Powermac B&W G3 install status and questions X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 15 Apr 2010 17:39:35 -0000 On Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 1:21 PM, Super Biscuit wrote: > The suggestion didn't work; but, thanks for replying. > boot hd:3,\\:tbxi DISK-LABEL: LOAD (noninterposed) not supportedload-size=0 > adler32=1 > LOAD-SIZE is too small > ok > 0 > > > > --- On Thu, 4/15/10, Richard DeLaurell > wrote: > > From: Richard DeLaurell > Subject: Re: Powermac B&W G3 install status and questions > To: "Super Biscuit" > Cc: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org > Date: Thursday, April 15, 2010, 5:00 PM > > I am working from memory here, but I believe your boot command should look > something like this: > > boot hd:#,\\:tbxi > > # is (I believe) the disk partition you're booting from; that should be the > location of your tbxi file. > > > This would be if you placed the tbxi file in the base directory on the #th > partition of your 1st hard drive. > > As I say, this is from memory since my G3 died quite a while ago. > > I am sorry if this is not helpful. > > > Good luck-- > > Richard DeLaurell > > On Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 8:48 AM, Super Biscuit > wrote: > > > I've been able to install 8.0 powerpc to a G3 with 384M RAM. > > Apologies beforehand, there are a few questions. > > What is the open firmware command for booting? > > Mac-boot repeats a bad partition error. > > Should I have created a /boot partition? > > Currently, only a base system is installed. > > > > Will it be better to use an older release? > > > > If you need the system stats, I can post them. I don't know if the 8.0 installer installs a bootstrap partition, so try something like: boot cd:,\boot\loader hd:3 This will use the boot CD's loader, and boot to hd:3 (/dev/ad0s3) as the root.
