The problem was to find a machine exhibiting ECC errors frequently enough to ensure the kernel does the right thing in order to recover gracefully from them. Nevertheless they are a sign of hardware problems. I'm trying to net install in Sparc64 (Sun Enterprise 250 without cd-rom). I've read a lot of post in this list and other guides in Internet but I have some ideas not very clear. I have a Ubuntu server with BOOTP, RARP and TFTP to install in Sparc64 server. RARP works perfectly. Then Sparc machine load BootStrap and in this moment I get differents messages (I've tried differents configurations): Sometime I get "\", another time Sparc machine ask (by TFTP) files that doesn't exist in tftpboot (directory /boot from CD). The problems are mainly in bootptab and in the content of /tftpboot. My bootptal is like this: .default:\ :bf="WHAT SHOULD I PUT HERE FOR NET INSTALL?":dn=domain:ds=nameserver:\ :gw=gateway:ht=ether:hd="AND HERE?":hn:\ :sm=255.255.255.0 hostname:ht=1:ha=080020C4269A:tc=.default:ip=IP: Where I wrote questions it's where I am not very sure what I have to put in. In the other side, in my /tftpboot I copy al directory /boot from cd install and I created the symbolic link with the mac the sparc64. I've probed a lot of things, but all of them without succesful. I need our help. This server has installed Debian now. If there is other and easier type of installation, please tell me about it. I'm a ness and in a hurry. Thank you. I think the same should be used for normal boot/install. As far as I understand you only need rarpd and tftpd. -- Anton Shterenlikht Room 2.6, Queen's Building Mech Eng Dept Bristol University University Walk, Bristol BS8 1TR, UK Tel: +44 (0)117 331 5944 Fax: +44 (0)117 929 4423 From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 5 15:38:47 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5A4E9106566C for ; Mon, 5 Jul 2010 15:38:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mmoll@darkthrone.kvedulv.de) Received: from darkthrone.kvedulv.de (darkthrone.kvedulv.de [IPv6:2001:1578:400:101::2]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0D5048FC17 for ; Mon, 5 Jul 2010 15:38:46 +0000 (UTC) Received: by darkthrone.kvedulv.de (Postfix, from userid 666) id 8E19A1CC6D; Mon, 5 Jul 2010 17:38:45 +0200 (CEST) Date: Mon, 5 Jul 2010 17:38:45 +0200 From: Michael Moll To: Narciso Martinez Message-ID: <20100705153845.GA94260@darkthrone.kvedulv.de> References: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) Cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: NetBoot Install Sparc64 Problems X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 05 Jul 2010 15:38:47 -0000 Hi, On Mon, Jul 05, 2010 at 04:31:32PM +0200, Narciso Martinez wrote: > I have a Ubuntu server with BOOTP, RARP and TFTP to install in Sparc64 server. Which OBP version do you have on the E250? According to the SUN docs, since 3.22.0 it should be possible to netboot these machines also with DHCP instead of RARP/bootparmd which simplifies the setup. I was trying connect with this server by serial port but I don't get it. I tried with minicom and gtkterm but I don't get it. For this conection I have to build this cable and all pins are work perfectly (multimeter), I use the next conections from this site: http://www.obsolyte.com/sunFAQ/serial/ 25 pin 9 pin pin 1 GND - pin 1 GND pin 2 TXD - pin 3 RXD pin 3 RXD - pin 3 TXD pin 4 RTS - pin 8 CTS pin 5 CTS - pin 7 RTS pin 7 gnd - pin 5 gnd pin 6 DSR - pin 4 DTR pin 20 DTR - pin 6 DSR Is this correct? What could be the problem? Thank you. What could be the problem? > The above pinout appears to be a useless mix between an 1:1 and a null-modem adapter. For the null-modem adapter you need pin 2 of the D-Sub 9 conntected should be connected to pin 2 if the D-Sub 25 one, and pin 3 to pin 3, while the other connecteions in the above pinout actually is close to a null-modem adapter. For a complete D-Sub 9 to 25 null-modem pinout see here: http://pinouts.ru/SerialPortsCables/Nullmodem9to9_pinout.shtml Marius
