Isn't that enough? No, it doesn't (can't) save/restore GPU state. In fact, nvidia.ko may help when you are suspending from X11. At least in theory, it should be able to save/restore GPU state correctly. However, a NVIDIA engineer once told me that the code path wasn't tested well because he couldn't find a right laptop to test at the time. It was long ago, though. Yes, the nvidia folks would probably work on fixing suspend and resume of nvidia GPUs if we could point them at a laptop for which suspend and resume otherwise worked. -- John Baldwin From owner-freebsd-acpi@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 2 16:53:32 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C248B1065673 for ; Fri, 2 Dec 2011 16:53:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wblock@wonkity.com) Received: from wonkity.com (wonkity.com [67.158.26.137]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 836A08FC13 for ; Fri, 2 Dec 2011 16:53:32 +0000 (UTC) Received: from wonkity.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by wonkity.com (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id pB2GrVw9023305 for ; Fri, 2 Dec 2011 09:53:31 -0700 (MST) (envelope-from wblock@wonkity.com) Received: from localhost (wblock@localhost) by wonkity.com (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) with ESMTP id pB2GrVv2023302 for ; Fri, 2 Dec 2011 09:53:31 -0700 (MST) (envelope-from wblock@wonkity.com) Date: Fri, 2 Dec 2011 09:53:31 -0700 (MST) From: Warren Block To: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: Message-ID: References: User-Agent: Alpine 2.00 (BSF 1167 2008-08-23) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed X-Greylist: Sender IP whitelisted, not delayed by milter-greylist-4.2.7 (wonkity.com [127.0.0.1]); Fri, 02 Dec 2011 09:53:31 -0700 (MST) Subject: Re: Thinkpad T42 power button X-BeenThere: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: ACPI and power management development List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 02 Dec 2011 16:53:32 -0000 On Fri, 12 Aug 2011, Warren Block wrote: > With an update from 8.2-prerelease to the latest 8.2-stable, the power button > on a Thinkpad T42 no longer shuts the machine down. iasl compiles the stock > ASL without complaints.
