Well done! Hmm, (showing my ignorance of PS3 technical details here) any chance that this will work on other versions of the hardware soon? I'm a hardware junkie, so I might buy a PS3, but I guess that version with that low a firmware isn't very easy to get hold of were I live. I have no idea, since I'm not especially willing to upgrade the firmware on my console. In principle, it should work perfectly fine on both fat and slim consoles with the recent jailbreaks (e.g. using the AsbestOS loader: http://marcansoft.com/blog/2010/10/asbestos-running-linux-as-gameos/), but I haven't heard any reports. If anyone does try it, please let me know the result. -Nathan From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 10 11:07:08 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CE0BC10656AA for ; Mon, 10 Jan 2011 11:07:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BCA858FC27 for ; Mon, 10 Jan 2011 11:07:08 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id p0AB78Rw001851 for ; Mon, 10 Jan 2011 11:07:08 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id p0AB78WP001849 for freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 10 Jan 2011 11:07:08 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2011 11:07:08 GMT Message-Id: <201101101107.p0AB78WP001849@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: gnats set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Current problem reports assigned to freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2011 11:07:08 -0000 Note: to view an individual PR, use: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=(number). The machine boots from the CD (disc1 image) when I press "C" on the keyboard, but after booting, when it shows the "Country Selection" dialog, the keyboard no longer works. How do I fix / workaround this problem? FWIW, i also tried with FreeBSD 8.1-release (both on CD and from a usb memory stick), the CD hung, the memory stick has the same problem as 8.2-RC1; the keyboard is not working when the "Country Selection" dialog shows up. Full details on the FreeBSD page[2] for this machine. Do you have a printout from sysctl dev.ds1775? Also, I'd like to see a ofwdump -pr from the node where the ds1775 is attached. Might be that we have another indicator than hwsensor-location which we could use? I have the same machine here and for this one I wrote the fcu. So I bet it is not a 'not supported' issue. My bet is the hw. I had issues with my ram. A pair of modules didn't work stable, and I got random segfaults and other panics. Replacing them did help here. - did you already reposition (you have 8 slots) the modules? I have both the 'before' and 'after' sysctl outputs for your reference. I looked at the ofwdump output when making the patch, and nothing obvious jumped out at me. I chose 'cpu' because I read online that the ds1775 is on the CPU card for the G4 MDD. I don't know if there's any other that has the same problem, so a default to 'cpu' seemed sufficient to me. - Justin --Apple-Mail-8--1036437443 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=dev.ds1775.output Content-Type: application/octet-stream; x-unix-mode=0644; name="dev.ds1775.output" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit dev.ds1775.0.%desc: Temp-Monitor DS1775 dev.ds1775.0.%driver: ds1775 dev.ds1775.0.%location: addr=0x92 dev.ds1775.0.%pnpinfo: name=temp-monitor compat=ds1775 dev.ds1775.0.%parent: iicbus0 dev.ds1775.0.: 32.0C --Apple-Mail-8--1036437443 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=dev.ds1775-after.out Content-Type: application/octet-stream; x-unix-mode=0644; name="dev.ds1775-after.out" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit dev.ds1775.0.%desc: Temp-Monitor DS1775 dev.ds1775.0.%driver: ds1775 dev.ds1775.0.%location: addr=0x92 dev.ds1775.0.%pnpinfo: name=temp-monitor compat=ds1775 dev.ds1775.0.%parent: iicbus0 dev.ds1775.0.cpu: 32.5C --Apple-Mail-8--1036437443 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=temp-monitor.out Content-Type: application/octet-stream; x-unix-mode=0644; name="temp-monitor.out" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Node 0xff950198: temp-monitor name: 74 65 6d 70 2d 6d 6f 6e 69 74 6f 72 00 'temp-monitor' device_type: 64 73 31 37 37 35 00 'ds1775' compatible: 64 73 31 37 37 35 00 'ds1775' built-in: reg: 00 00 00 92 --Apple-Mail-8--1036437443-- From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 15 18:00:06 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8A253106566B for ; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 18:00:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from thalia-smout.broadpark.no (thalia-smout.broadpark.no [80.202.8.21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2EFE98FC08 for ; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 18:00:05 +0000 (UTC) MIME-version: 1.0 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII Received: from ignis-smin.broadpark.no ([80.202.8.11]) by thalia-smout.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-15.01 64bit (built Feb 12 2010)) with ESMTP id <0LF2001SNSO4E460@thalia-smout.broadpark.no> for freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 19:00:04 +0100 (CET) Received: from kg-v2.kg4.no ([84.48.120.77]) by ignis-smin.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u3-15.01 64bit (built Feb 12 2010)) with SMTP id <0LF20033SSO4ZL60@ignis-smin.broadpark.no> for freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 19:00:04 +0100 (CET) Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2011 19:00:04 +0100 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Message-id: <20110115190004.09195c1d.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-reply-to: References: <20110113220450.57d09983.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <20110114221406.34969090.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> X-Mailer: Sylpheed 3.0.3 (GTK+ 2.22.1; amd64-portbld-freebsd8.1) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq; m"_0v; ~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Subject: Re: Trying to install FreeBSD 8.2-RC1 on a PowerMac G5 X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2011 18:00:06 -0000 On Sat, 15 Jan 2011 02:19:18 -0500 Super Bisquit wrote: > Okay, > Have you searched the mailing lists for similar posts? Yes, if ASD doesn't find anything, I'm going to look at the memory DIMMs. This particular model has four DIMM slots (not eight) and they must be installed in pairs. But still, I should be able to take out two of the DIMMS and see if that changes anything. Then swap then, and so on. -- Torfinn From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 15 19:02:27 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 27F81106564A for ; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 19:02:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from superbisquit@gmail.com) Received: from mail-vw0-f54.google.com (mail-vw0-f54.google.com [209.85.212.54]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CE2C38FC12 for ; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 19:02:26 +0000 (UTC) Received: by vws9 with SMTP id 9so1457755vws.13 for ; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 11:02:26 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date :message-id:subject:from:to:cc:content-type; bh=QvJVq6+Uw0Y8YP4HJhrlHZz1C401iQFVJwJFYur6zEU=; b=TWtPubLEc0ZIJULdsRCbGnGMPqwDvBXQQmnqALd1Qr6evVELYMk+Ry+wdmisp+LjzA skPQ7X3xaBahfpd/dP+JYrusu5c6J010yokhUybkJs0z+0BgG56iYkbOJvO3txG2QzL6 TZVISIibQwtoZOvOx4rkJ5vO6Q+1jpyebk8L4= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; b=xntlVlIyAqC+gUF/DTvLHlc/LYnJCUZsXnSmagl0ev61w7eddl1NyJIkUa6NRyMkHc fR0ICr8nTbaRA/NQALsios5FvoRyAt7foHr1VC3Mk6/4DdMXpTIuywC4cAsBe2O5bURL CCoAOQwI93kK5pzb4eX3TR35w2prIXr3A1MtA= MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.220.177.76 with SMTP id bh12mr694092vcb.106.1295118144388; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 11:02:24 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.220.187.7 with HTTP; Sat, 15 Jan 2011 11:02:24 -0800 (PST) In-Reply-To: <20110115190637.7ac32abe.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> References: <20110113220450.57d09983.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <20110114221406.34969090.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <4D31582F.1060300@FreeBSD.org> <20110115190637.7ac32abe.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2011 14:02:24 -0500 Message-ID: From: Super Bisquit To: Torfinn Ingolfsen Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Trying to install FreeBSD 8.2-RC1 on a PowerMac G5 X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2011 19:02:27 -0000 Yes, you can multiboot. You'll need to setup as such: p1: Apple partition map p2: 1M Apple boot strap p3: /FreeBSD / root system p4: / FreeBSD-swap p5: /FreeBSD var p6: /FreeBSD tmp p7: /FreeBSD /usr p8: /FreeBSD /usr/local p9: /FreeBSD /home That's my layout. p10: Apple bootstrap p11: Linux / root system p12: Swap And whatever else you want. Just be sure not to use anything dedicated to FreeBSD. Follow instructions for both. Holding down the option key will show you a disc image with a penguin for the gentoo and a disc image- this represents the FreeBSD install- after the base of both systems are setup. Both startx and Xorg -config become non responsive. The xinitrc local file is set to start fluxbox. I am also beginning to think it is a clock problem. Nathan, Justen, et al: My apologies for what seems to be spam. I've posted the same problem to xorg@freedesktop and freebsd-x11. This also was done for earlier inquiries of the same problem. I've even posted Open Firmware problems to the freebsd-hackers list and the official Open Firmware lists. The closest FreeBSD user group is 169 miles away from me in Washington, DC and my only means of transportation is a bicycle. I have searched Google and nothing similar has come up, except for my posts.
