From: Hans Petter Selasky To: bug-followup@freebsd.org, daynejordan@gmail.com Cc: Subject: usb/156596: [ehci] Extremely high interrupt rate on ehci/uhci IRQ16 80% cpu utilization on CPU0 Date: Sun, 24 Apr 2011 10:26:52 +0200 Hi, Compile a kernel with: options USB_DEBUG Then enable after boot: sysctl hw.usb.ehci.debug=15 ; sleep 1; sysctl hw.usb.ehci.debug=0 sysctl hw.usb.uhci.debug=15 ; sleep 1; sysctl hw.usb.uhci.debug=0 The high interrupt rate might be caused by a non-cleared IRQ. Else it is an ACPI issue. --HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Apr 25 11:07:11 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 225E1106566C for ; Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:07:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0F4E98FC25 for ; Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:07:11 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id p3PB7BPr084728 for ; Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:07:11 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id p3PB7Amp084726 for freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:07:10 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:07:10 GMT Message-Id: <201104251107.p3PB7Amp084726@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: gnats set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Current problem reports assigned to freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:07:11 -0000 Note: to view an individual PR, use: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=(number). Situation has not improved though -- still I got: root: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/webcamd: WARNING: failed to start webcamd I am in group webcamd and /dev/video0 does appear after plugging camera in. Trying Kopete and opening Video tab in preferences -- nothing there. I can try reboot with camera plugged in and I'll see if any change.. M. I tried the same setup with RELENG_8 from Feb 14th and it works as expected. I am about to start narrowing it down but was wondering if any one had any hints as to what to try ? The symptoms are that large packets fail. e.g. on a dial connection, if I do ping -s 900 it works, although its quite slow with higher than normal latency. if I increase the packet size to 1000, packets fail, or they take upwards of 8 seconds to traverse the link if they ever get through. Using an external modem on the serial port works just fine, so it seems related to just usb ucom devices. (I havent tried u3g yet) The kernel from Feb 14th works as expected. From April 18th, it does not. Can you apply this patch and report back? Hi, That seems to help a lot! I will run some more tests to make sure it fully works, but my test case with large ping packets no longer fails. Thanks for the very quick fix!
