The device continuously disconnects and re-enumerates, as shown in /var/log/messages: May 1 14:36:57 epicenter root: Unknown USB device: vendor 0x0764 product 0x0501 bus uhub1 May 1 14:36:57 epicenter kernel: ugen1.2: at usbus1 May 1 14:37:19 epicenter kernel: ugen1.2: at usbus1 (disconnected) May 1 14:37:22 epicenter root: Unknown USB device: vendor 0x0764 product 0x0501 bus uhub1 May 1 14:37:22 epicenter kernel: ugen1.2: at usbus1 I had this problem in 7.1, but it was corrected in upgrading to 7.3. Now that I've upgraded to 8.1 the problem is back. The device is listed in the device quirks: epicenter# usbconfig -d ugen1.2 dump_device_quirks | grep 0x0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE dmesg | grep -v " at usbus1" | tail yields: usb_alloc_device: set address 2 failed (USB_ERR_TIMEOUT, ignored) usb_alloc_device: getting device descriptor at addr 2 failed, USB_ERR_STALLED I believe lack of the UQ_HID_IGNORE quirk was the issue in 7.1. Sorry for the multiple questions, I'm just trying to understand what's happening under the hood so I'm better prepared to debug on my own in the future. I have a modest understanding of udev under linux creating the /dev node when the device enumerates, I'm just trying to put together that level of knowledge for FreeBSD as well. My current hack is to do it from uhub_explore. When my driver tries to do a clear-stall and gets a timeout error from the clear-stall, it sets a flag on the parent_hs_hub to request a RESET_TT. uhub_explore notices the flag and does it. Possibly I could also add it to usb_do_clear_stall_callback, but I don't think I can call usb_do_request from inside a callback. Any suggestions? Hi, I think it is best to do this from the root HUB thread, then the operation gets properly serialised. Then the clear-stalls requests will simply be pending until normal operation is established. Yes, I think so. Sadly, there's no way to query whether a TT is jammed or not. So my heuristic is that when a clear-stall transaction fails with a timeout, and it's to a full-speed device with a high-speed hub, to reset the TT. Resetting the TT will cause every other device using it to require require a clear-stall sequence, but that's not a big problem. We see hub wedging problems multiple times per hour. because this system has a long cable from the host to hub, and there are frequent static discharges nearby. I've been testing with a static discharge simulator that hits the cables with nanosecond kilovolt pulses and it's made it much easier to reproduce the problems. So I can probably propose a set of patches in the next week or so.
