Here is the info and the usbconfig outputs: Name: Samsung Wireless LAN Adapter WIS09ABGN (for selected 2009-2011 models of Samsung TVs & Blu-Ray Players) Model: WIS09ABGN Model Code: WIS09ABGNX/XEC it should work - and it works! - with the if_run & runfw drivers # usbconfig -d 2.2 dump_device_desc ugen2.2: <802.11 n WLAN Ralink> at usbus2, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON bLength = 0x0012 bDescriptorType = 0x0001 bcdUSB = 0x0200 bDeviceClass = 0x0000 bDeviceSubClass = 0x0000 bDeviceProtocol = 0x0000 bMaxPacketSize0 = 0x0040 idVendor = 0x04e8 idProduct = 0x2018 bcdDevice = 0x0101 iManufacturer = 0x0001 iProduct = 0x0002 <802.11 n WLAN> iSerialNumber = 0x0003 <1.0> bNumConfigurations = 0x0001 # usbconfig -d 2.2 dump_all_config_desc ugen2.2: <802.11 n WLAN Ralink> at usbus2, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON Configuration index 0 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0002 wTotalLength = 0x0035 bNumInterfaces = 0x0001 bConfigurationValue = 0x0001 iConfiguration = 0x0000 bmAttributes = 0x0080 bMaxPower = 0x00e1 Interface 0 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0000 bNumEndpoints = 0x0005 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceProtocol = 0x00ff iInterface = 0x0005 <1.0> Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0002 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0200 bInterval = 0x0000 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Endpoint 1 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0001 bmAttributes = 0x0002 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0200 bInterval = 0x0000 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Endpoint 2 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0002 bmAttributes = 0x0002 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0200 bInterval = 0x0000 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Endpoint 3 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0003 bmAttributes = 0x0002 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0200 bInterval = 0x0000 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Endpoint 4 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0004 bmAttributes = 0x0002 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0200 bInterval = 0x0000 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 === This output is with the original if_run and runfw modules. After it, I made two small changes in the src: a) added the device info into /usr/src/sys/dev/usb/usbdevs file: product SAMSUNG WIS09ABGN 0x2018 WIS09ABGN Wireless LAN adapter b) and added it to the known list of HWs in the /usr/src/sys/dev/usb/wlan/if_run.c file: RUN_DEV(SAMSUNG, WIS09ABGN), unloading the original module, generating the new (with cd /usrs/src/sys/modules/usb/run make commands) and loading it with: kldload runfw kldload ./if_run.ko and voila, the system has a new run0 interface. After it, created the wlan0 interface, started wpa_supplicant and dhclient, and I have a working wifi connection. usbconfig -d 2.2 - with the "modified" driver ugen2.2: <802.11 n WLAN Ralink> at usbus2, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON It is on FreeBSD 8.2-p3 i386. >How-To-Repeat: Buy a Samsung-TV wifi dongle, and try it under FreeBSD. >Fix: Put the product SAMSUNG WIS09ABGN 0x2018 WIS09ABGN Wireless LAN adapter line into usbdevs, and the RUN_DEV(SAMSUNG, WIS09ABGN), line into if_run.c. After it, it should work. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 19 10:10:11 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4B9BA106564A for ; Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:10:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3B8AE8FC15 for ; Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:10:11 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id p9JAABgI020157 for ; Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:10:11 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id p9JAABc5020156; Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:10:11 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:10:11 GMT Message-Id: <201110191010.p9JAABc5020156@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org From: dfilter@FreeBSD.ORG (dfilter service) Cc: Subject: Re: usb/161798: commit references a PR X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: dfilter service List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:10:11 -0000 The following reply was made to PR usb/161798; it has been noted by GNATS. I bought a Sharkoon QuickPort XT USB3.0 SATA docking station. Unfortunately it is attached to an OHCI. Thus it runs at full speed (12 Mbps) only. The docking station uses a "ASM1051 USB 3.0 to SATA Bridge" from ASMedia (Vendor 0x174C, Product 0x55AA). Attached to a Windows or Linux machine, the QuickPort XT runs at high speed (480 Mbps). Detailed output can be found here: siv output from Windows: http://pastebin.com/CyPnBCnf lsusb output from Linux: http://pastebin.com/fMcxhKax The problem occurs under FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE and FreeBSD 9.0-RC1. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? I tried adding console="comconsole,vidconsole" hw.usb.ucom.cons_unit=0 hw.usb.ucom.cons_baud=9600 to /boot/loader.conf but it did not work # usbconfig ugen0.1: at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=SAVE ugen1.1: at usbus1, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=SAVE ugen0.2: at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=SAVE ugen1.2: at usbus1, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=SAVE ugen0.3: at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON ugen0.4: at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=LOW (1.5Mbps) pwr=ON # sysctl -a hw.usb hw.usb.ehci.lostintrbug: 0 hw.usb.ehci.iaadbug: 0 hw.usb.ehci.no_hs: 0 hw.usb.ehci.debug: 0 hw.usb.ohci.debug: 0 hw.usb.uhci.loop: 0 hw.usb.uhci.debug: 0 hw.usb.no_boot_wait: 0 hw.usb.ctrl.debug: 0 hw.usb.umass.debug: 0 hw.usb.debug: 0 hw.usb.dev.debug: 0 hw.usb.usb_lang_mask: 255 hw.usb.usb_lang_id: 9 hw.usb.template: 0 hw.usb.ugen.debug: 0 hw.usb.power_timeout: 30 hw.usb.uhub.debug: 0 hw.usb.no_pf: 0 hw.usb.proc.debug: 0 hw.usb.pr_recovery_delay: 250 hw.usb.pr_poll_delay: 50 hw.usb.no_cs_fail: 0 hw.usb.uftdi.debug: 0 hw.usb.ucom.cons_baud: 9600 hw.usb.ucom.cons_subunit: 0 hw.usb.ucom.cons_unit: 0 hw.usb.ucom.debug: 0 hw.usb.uhid.debug: 0 hw.usb.ukbd.no_leds: 0 hw.usb.ukbd.debug: 0 hw.usb.ums.debug: 0 ---Mike -- ------------------- Mike Tancsa, tel +1 519 651 3400 Sentex Communications, mike@sentex.net Providing Internet services since 1994 www.sentex.net Cambridge, Ontario Canada http://www.tancsa.com/ From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 21 21:51:39 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1C508106564A for ; Fri, 21 Oct 2011 21:51:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from avg@FreeBSD.org) Received: from citadel.icyb.net.ua (citadel.icyb.net.ua [212.40.38.140]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6439E8FC0A for ; Fri, 21 Oct 2011 21:51:38 +0000 (UTC) Received: from porto.starpoint.kiev.ua (porto-e.starpoint.kiev.ua [212.40.38.100]) by citadel.icyb.net.ua (8.8.8p3/ICyb-2.3exp) with ESMTP id AAA14826; Sat, 22 Oct 2011 00:40:05 +0300 (EEST) (envelope-from avg@FreeBSD.org) Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]) by porto.starpoint.kiev.ua with esmtp (Exim 4.34 (FreeBSD)) id 1RHMov-000Mzb-GJ; Sat, 22 Oct 2011 00:40:05 +0300 Message-ID: <4EA1E6B4.4030607@FreeBSD.org> Date: Sat, 22 Oct 2011 00:40:04 +0300 From: Andriy Gapon User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20111002 Thunderbird/7.0.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Mike Tancsa References: <4EA1E1B5.9050901@sentex.net> In-Reply-To: <4EA1E1B5.9050901@sentex.net> X-Enigmail-Version: undefined Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailman-Approved-At: Fri, 21 Oct 2011 22:12:02 +0000 Cc: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: serial console on USB ? USB subsystem depends on so many kernel services that USB drivers become functional quite late in the boot process. -- Andriy Gapon
