The best solution is to not use imake, but that's probably far from trivial to fix. $ grep -c imake /usr/ports/INDEX-10 291 This issue must cause problems for quite a few other ports. So is it an agreed policy to migrate away from imake in time for 10-release? This seems an important strategic issue to discuss. My port is relatively small, and I probably can, with time and help, migrate to BSD make, for example. Just don't want to do this, unless this is the majority opinion, and the likely direction for the future. Imake *really* hates clang. Although it can build with it, the resulting imake is broken. Fixing imake properly is the thing to do here. I'm happy to help anyone mad enough to try. The problem is that Imake preprocessing depends on the -traditional option[1], which clang does not support, and it is very unlikely[2] that it will ever support it, unless there is huge demand, and somebody willing to implement and maintain it. -Dimitry [1] [2] From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Sep 25 20:27:52 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A85CB10656A3 for ; Tue, 25 Sep 2012 20:27:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from patfbsd@davenulle.org) Received: from smtp.lamaiziere.net (net.lamaiziere.net [94.23.254.147]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 228E38FC08 for ; Tue, 25 Sep 2012 20:27:50 +0000 (UTC) Received: from baby-jane.lamaiziere.net (unknown [192.168.1.10]) by smtp.lamaiziere.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id E301CA2FF; Tue, 25 Sep 2012 22:27:49 +0200 (CEST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by baby-jane.lamaiziere.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 95ADE2CF562; Tue, 25 Sep 2012 22:27:47 +0200 (CEST) Date: Tue, 25 Sep 2012 22:27:46 +0200 From: Patrick Lamaiziere To: Olivier Smedts Message-ID: <20120925222746.2c3c056e@davenulle.org> In-Reply-To: References: <20120925151040.661b79e3@mr129166> <20120925152018.1c5edd48@mr129166> X-Mailer: Claws Mail 3.8.1 (GTK+ 2.24.6; i386-portbld-freebsd9.0) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: [nvidia] no more twinview with nvidia-driver-304.43 X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 25 Sep 2012 20:27:52 -0000 Le Tue, 25 Sep 2012 16:28:11 +0200, Olivier Smedts a écrit : > I heard the new driver handles xrandr. I use xrandr --output VGA-0 --left-of LVDS-0 --auto to add a screen to the left of laptop. xrandr --output VGA-0 --off to detach second monitor. --left-of can be replaced with: --below --above --right-of and so on. Hope it helps. Cool. > > Regards > If you are using a DE there should be a tool which can use xrandr to configure monitors. I use dwm so no point-and-click for me. I forget to say: I don't know if you might need to use a newer xorg as nVidia joined the xrandr bandwagon so late, the might not support older xrandr versions. Having a PR is better than a random email that will most likely get lost. I would definitely respond to: "Hey $dev! I filed $PR -- can you please take a look at it? It solves '$reason'. Thanks!" You might get better results this way too and less duplicated effort by multiple individuals.. just sayin'... (xvideo is preferred if available as it reduces cpu load playing video, there also is vaapi that offloads video decoding to the gpu too but the userland libs needed for that aren't in ports and I wonder if intel kms kernel support for it is missing too if xvideo support is already missing... I've Cc'd -x11, maybe someone there knows.) We should be on par with the Linux kernel version which was used for the last import. I never compiled/tested vaapi 965 driver myself. Sure, there may be bugs, which I think are even inevitable, but VCS engine is quite similar and simpler then render, so I expect that bugs can be fixed if reported. Obvious first step is to get libva 965 driver compiling and added to ports.
