The behaviour you're seeing is because you've run out of shared-memory. Chromium doesn't reliably release the IPC resources when it exits or dies. If you log out and do a "ipcs", you'll see shared-memory segments still assigned to you. Removing the segments will restore chromium's ability to display web-pages. The IPC resources are removed on close more often, but I've observed times when they have not been released. -- Jonathan Chen From owner-freebsd-chromium@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jul 24 20:43:40 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: chromium@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9CAD22DA for ; Wed, 24 Jul 2013 20:43:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bnkarp@gmail.com) Received: from mail-wi0-x233.google.com (mail-wi0-x233.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:400c:c05::233]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-RC4-SHA (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 30D9A2B1D for ; Wed, 24 Jul 2013 20:43:40 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail-wi0-f179.google.com with SMTP id hj3so955979wib.6 for ; Wed, 24 Jul 2013 13:43:38 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=sender:message-id:date:from:user-agent:mime-version:to:cc:subject :x-enigmail-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding; bh=wruK+j1kKdeQwznthp8pNyYrViWP2v9wOE4KumSy1sA=; b=yML8PiugmpqWtwZTNPolOh2iBuUjzECBw1jt34Pzo7kOrXwhXSpo1N0Kk9dCGIqbbn AsvjvRCV/JBIc7HwuLjW5Qn4hOhAev818npEQzNxwpIrHAl/l3bQNg02py17gLnhx0je +m8yPw02I4OiCMn1qVOfjnwAME5lr/GHFBCiMqsSZ4n58EIS0GUiAab863n6SIHQd2XQ p+AlyegVOyn1CH3UyAY5Xaih/h0kD7Jzgq4c0vi14MZhnrGBcWwyvKmcAuLnyCIRlzVB rqnRmDo6bGZyrUL2vYa+m1KTzWLhzpK1PHhjeS4mExj+YKzIRhlN9W6aZVMIoRbslZd/ ybpw== X-Received: by 10.194.173.225 with SMTP id bn1mr28385806wjc.6.1374698618438; Wed, 24 Jul 2013 13:43:38 -0700 (PDT) Received: from perlis.bkarp.co.uk (perlis.bkarp.co.uk. Example pages that do this for me (but I'm not at all sure if this is consistent per-page; stands to reason it could depend on a sequence of operations in the browser over time, e.g., if memory is somehow being corrupted): http://docs.freebsd.org/mail/current/freebsd-chromium.html All links work *except* the "Contact us", "Created by mailindex 1.1", "Copyright" and "FreeBSD Project" links at the bottom footer of the page. http://www0.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/B.Karp/gz03/f2012/calendar.html None of the links in the body of the calendar work. N.B. that I have kern.ipc.shm_allow_removed=1, and that I've tried logging out, deleting all SYSV shared memory resources with ipcrm, logging back in, and starting chrome again. The same behavior persists. George: do you happen to see this behavior on any box of your own running 9.1-RELEASE with a clang-built Chromium 28? I'm happy to provide other build and/or run details if they would be helpful. (This should cause Chrome to spawn a new process for the page, which could help expose memory issues.) - See whether you can highlight the links or nearby parts on the page by dragging with your mouse, or whether you get the I-beam cursor on the near the links. (This would isolate the issue specifically to links versus general mouse input handling.) Interesting: Tony's test page has the same effect for me on my 9.1-RELEASE box with Chromium 28: the outside table links are clickable for me, but the inside table link is not. And I, too, can tab over the unclickable link. -Brad, bkarp@cs.ucl.ac.uk From owner-freebsd-chromium@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jul 27 00:15:28 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: chromium@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B90983E0 for ; Sat, 27 Jul 2013 00:15:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from tony@scroner.com) Received: from krusty.scroner.com (scroner-3-pt.tunnel.tserv9.chi1.ipv6.he.net [IPv6:2001:470:1f10:589::2]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 719442784 for ; Sat, 27 Jul 2013 00:15:28 +0000 (UTC) Received: from krusty.scroner.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by krusty.scroner.com (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id r6R0FQUc095727 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NOT); Fri, 26 Jul 2013 19:15:26 -0500 (CDT) (envelope-from tony@scroner.com) Received: (from tony@localhost) by krusty.scroner.com (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) id r6R0FOVu095726; Fri, 26 Jul 2013 19:15:24 -0500 (CDT) (envelope-from tony@scroner.com) X-Authentication-Warning: krusty.scroner.com: tony set sender to tony@scroner.com using -f Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2013 19:15:24 -0500 From: Tony Morlan To: Jason Garrett Subject: Re: confirmation: links not clickable in Chromium 28.0.1500.71 on 9.1-RELEASE Message-ID: <20130727001524.GQ23770@krusty.scroner.com> References: <51F03C75.80802@cs.ucl.ac.uk> <51F2A5A4.5010805@rawbw.com> <51F2A7FC.70606@rawbw.com> <4EF1039E-5D74-4550-BF71-B2C115DE5D35@cs.ucl.ac.uk> <20130726195815.GP23770@krusty.scroner.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: X-Evil: yes X-PGP-ID: 0x7412A7D6 X-PGP-Fingerprint: 3383 F2F0 B951 0D2C 9AC0 48B4 DA33 54BC 7412 A7D6 User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15) X-Spam-Flag: NO X-Spam-Status: No, -1.0/5.0, tests=ALL_TRUSTED X-Spam-Report: * -1.0 ALL_TRUSTED Passed through trusted hosts only via SMTP X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.2 (2011-06-06) on krusty.scroner.com Cc: chromium@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-chromium@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list Reply-To: Tony Morlan List-Id: FreeBSD-specific Chromium issues List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2013 00:15:28 -0000 On Fri, Jul 26, 2013 at 03:47:35PM CDT, Jason Garrett wrote: > Your test page works fine here, all links are clickable. I don't have a spare machine I can move to STABLE, but I tweaked the chromium port's Makefile to use lang/clang33 and everything seems to be working perfectly for me on 9.1-RELEASE now. Success here, too: building with clang33 fixes the "unclickable" links problem I and others had when building with 9.1R's default clang. Perhaps the port maintainer might consider requiring clang33 for those who build with clang on 9.1R and earlier for the time being? -Brad, bkarp@cs.ucl.ac.uk
