I've borrowed an X230 from work to test FreeBSD-10 on. The report: What works: * it boots! * The intel wifi (Intel 6205) works out of the box, thankfully! * the onboard ethernet (intel e1000) works * suspend-resume works What doesn't: * video backlight doesn't come back on after a resume. * If I set the ACPI video reset twiddle to 1, resume totally fails What I haven't yet tried: * USB * USB after suspend/resume * Xorg * Camera * sound I'll post more updates soon as well as a formal request to help debug the ACPI video issues. I'd like some help getting this fully working out of the box with xorg and all devices, complete with suspend/resume, so I can move onto hacking on the next laptop! However, without acpi_video brightness adjusted via Fn keys at 15 levels. I have e320. I changed some things from bios only. For instance, it was possible to set to lower brightness when I interupted booting and went to uefi. Also look at "Fixing suspend/resume on Lenovo x220". Both went over several months, but ended in mid-June. Whether this aproach will work on the X230 is not entirely clear. Use of ACPI_CALL is really a mostly unworkable kludge. The suspend/resume issues will almost certainly not be resolved on any platform with recent Intel or Radeon GPUs requiring KMS until the newcons code is committed. That likely won't resolve all issues, but will deal with a major one and one that largely blocks resolving (or even identifying) others. I have a T550 which has a BIOS that largely is similar to the X220. One issue that Thinkpads of this vintage all seem to have is the inability to boot a gpt disk.. (Actually, if you have another drive (even USB) with booteasy on it, you can, but BIOS refuses to run an MBR from a GPT formatted disk. It assumes that GPT disks are all EUFI, which is seriously broken. I'd love to see that this is fixed. Guess I should see if Lenovo has a new BIOS that might fix it. -- R.
