Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: lang/python26 description: Interpreted object-oriented programming language maintainer: python@FreeBSD.org deprecated because: This port reached its EoL upstream, please migrate to lang/python27 expiration date: 2014-01-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=lang&portname=python26 portname: lang/python31 description: Interpreted object-oriented programming language maintainer: python@FreeBSD.org deprecated because: This port will reach it's EoL upstream soon, please migrate to lang/python33 expiration date: 2014-06-01 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=lang&portname=python31 If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. Even if I had spare time (I don't), I also don't have the knowledge or skill to work on python. I am even getting failures in lang/gnatpython on F10 from the fallout machine that I'll need help to fix. What about the others on this python@ list? Do you mean errors such as /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/easy-install.pth: No such file or directory? (see for example http://package19.nyi.freebsd.org/bulk/91amd64-default-pr_183726/2013-11-13_11h43m59s/logs/errors/py27-scriptaculous-1.8.1.1_2.log ) If so, in my opinion the cause may be this change to bsd.python.mk: http://svnweb.freebsd.org/ports?view=revision&revision=322046 In fact, with the new setuptools, easy-install.pth is created the first time you run easy_install; but if you use only packages to install programs/dependencies, then this never happens, so the ed command fails to edit the file ${PYEASYINSTALL_SITELIBDIR}/easy-install.pth. Wouldn't it be better to package it as an extra file *with* setuptools? If it's only used by setuptools, creating a separate dummy port seems odd. Because I've been quite busy with work and had no time to figure out how to manually create that file, I need to investigate if it is somehow platform agnostic or what. I see no reason to create a new port but bundle it with setuptools. -- William Grzybowski ------------------------------------------ Curitiba/PR - Brasil From owner-freebsd-python@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 23 12:49:43 2013 Return-Path: <owner-freebsd-python@FreeBSD.ORG> Delivered-To: freebsd-python@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 36D33619 for <freebsd-python@freebsd.org>; Sat, 23 Nov 2013 12:49:43 +0000 (UTC) Received: from smtprelay03.ispgateway.de (smtprelay03.ispgateway.de [80.67.31.30]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id EBF6F26A4 for <freebsd-python@freebsd.org>; Sat, 23 Nov 2013 12:49:42 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [89.183.0.179] (helo=localhost) by smtprelay03.ispgateway.de with esmtpsa (TLSv1:AES256-SHA:256) (Exim 4.68) (envelope-from <mva@FreeBSD.org>) id 1VkCY2-00065a-UM for freebsd-python@freebsd.org; Sat, 23 Nov 2013 13:42:55 +0100 Date: Sat, 23 Nov 2013 13:42:54 +0100 From: Marcus von Appen <mva@FreeBSD.org> To: freebsd-python@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Removing the lang/python dependency Message-ID: <20131123124254.GA1367@medusa.sysfault.org> Mail-Followup-To: freebsd-python@freebsd.org References: <20131007180937.GA1373@medusa.sysfault.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="a8Wt8u1KmwUX3Y2C" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20131007180937.GA1373@medusa.sysfault.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.22 (2013-10-16) X-Df-Sender: MTEyNTc0Mg== X-BeenThere: freebsd-python@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.16 Precedence: list Reply-To: Marcus von Appen <mva@FreeBSD.org> List-Id: FreeBSD-specific Python issues <freebsd-python.freebsd.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/options/freebsd-python>, <mailto:freebsd-python-request@freebsd.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-python/> List-Post: <mailto:freebsd-python@freebsd.org> List-Help: <mailto:freebsd-python-request@freebsd.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-python>, <mailto:freebsd-python-request@freebsd.org?subject=subscribe> X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 23 Nov 2013 12:49:43 -0000 --a8Wt8u1KmwUX3Y2C Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline On, Mon Oct 07, 2013, Marcus von Appen wrote: [...] > I'm currently trying to remove lang/python from the implicitly set > BUILD_DEPENDS and RUN_DEPENDS in bsd.python.mk. Quick update: A list of 65 ports has been identified, which need to be fixed. I'm currently patching those and will send out mails to the maintainers as necessary. Once the ports are committed and an exp-run succeeds, the lang/python dependency will be removed from bsd.python.mk. I took some time and verified easy-install.pth has no magic involved in the source code (setuptools/easy_install.py) and added the static file files/easy_install.pth.dist. I've sent it for another exp-run, lets see how it goes this time. -- William Grzybowski ------------------------------------------ Curitiba/PR - Brasil
