Less fortunately, the driver is for 6.2, and so is 'old usb': http://aopopov.home.xs4all.nl/imon/imon.html Does anyone know of some good documentation describing the changes, or a simple sample driver from each version that I can look at to try and get started porting this to the newer stack? All of these drives worked under multiple systems (i386 and amd64) running 7.4-RELEASE-p12. The "bad" drives continue to work fine on an old 7.4-RELEASE-p12 machine. This new behavior is consistent on two i386 servers running 9.1-RELEASE-p2. The same drives don't work in the same way on both systems. Additionally, if the unrecognized drives are attached to the server during a reboot, the system will hard freeze on shutdown. Manually pressing the power button is necessary to reboot. Are the different quirks a clue? I am willing to reformat the "bad" drives to make them more compliant with the new OS, but right now I can't access them at all. >How-To-Repeat: Plug one of the bad drives into an i386 system running 9.1-RELEASE-p2. Plug that same bad drive into an old 7.4-RELEASE-p12 and it runs fine. Plug a good drive in 9.1-RELEASE-p2 or 7.4-RELEASE-p12 systems and it doesn't have the problem. >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 17 05:40:00 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@smarthost.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [8.8.178.115]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8E98082B for ; My intention is to use Three such monitors to display . stdin . stdout . stderr input - output values , with the regular display monitor in graphics mode such as KDE4 . This will allow to view background messages when the screen is occupied with desk top output . My opinion is that during program development and testing such a setup will be very useful . If the above USB monitors can not be used , is there a possibility to use devices such as the following to be used as additional displays : http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1080-DisplayLink/dp/B0038P1TP4/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1366436230&sr=1-4&keywords=usb+vga+adapter http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Multiple-Monitors-1920x1080-DisplayLink/dp/B008GXQ1OW/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1366436321&sr=1-7&keywords=usb+vga+adapter http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-UGA-165-1920x1080-1600x1200-DisplayLink/dp/B004AIJE9G/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1366436295&sr=1-6&keywords=usb+vga+adapter http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-External-Video-Monitor-Adapter/dp/B005G306I2/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1366436357&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+vga+adapter Any information about how to achieve such an operational setup will be appreciated very much . A small possibility. There was a thread in 2011 about getting DisplayLink drivers to compile. As far as I know, USB monitors and external USB/DVI/VGA adapters both use DisplayLink. > My intention is to use Three such monitors to display > > . stdin > . stdout > . stderr > > input - output values , with the regular display monitor in graphics mode > such as KDE4 . Alternatively, that output could be sent out over serial ports. But I think an easier and more reliable way would be to set up named pipes and netcat or something similar to send it to three different windows on another computer. This specific monitor use DisplayLink, according to the manual (there is one other standard too, but the name escapes me now). OpenBSD has the udl driver: http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=udl AFAIK, nobody has ported that to FreeBSD. -- Torfinn Ingolfsen From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Apr 20 17:25:49 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 691CC79A for ; Sat, 20 Apr 2013 17:25:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from m.e.sanliturk@gmail.com) Received: from mail-vb0-x230.google.com (mail-vb0-x230.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:400c:c02::230]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 231A874C for ; Sat, 20 Apr 2013 17:25:49 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail-vb0-f48.google.com with SMTP id p13so4582243vbe.7 for ; Sat, 20 Apr 2013 10:25:47 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:x-received:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id :subject:from:to:cc:content-type; bh=nNmSsj8jnmv9Xngr6PXgnkcJpHS4bMeBPL1Osk9xo6Y=; b=L7gVU+WywwaOokrpyV475vGteUQzTbu/EnhfHB1eQq17OgkhnWCTeIwScsqGScJrFx C27ZEzCl31hv1xUrhC343nWf7zUgPA9DZ8/y2e0lpbf0SPpZ/3T9YY67znRR9x+Vu/Mn QcZkNhLyf4CbCMuaOU0d4aUJGJqs+vTKUQ3qb4QgQDEIA3NI9ryEWPPwXGob9GKqqAj6 GTkqUurOJ/NA/TqV8tTvfBhOoLpWPoAH+qvXY8q5ApppeuFYU5SUGVTDp/0bALAVYFg8 p/+BeXJxGqSa4NQ9Vi4sh46/pi9kpXijtr8y7dhi5K6JTuheIMAWOCjNIqFTNWEGKiGJ SEBg== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.58.210.162 with SMTP id mv2mr14988215vec.11.1366478747487; Sat, 20 Apr 2013 10:25:47 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.58.132.203 with HTTP; Sat, 20 Apr 2013 10:25:47 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2013 10:25:47 -0700 Message-ID: Subject: Re: FreeBSD USB Monitor Usage From: Mehmet Erol Sanliturk To: Warren Block Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.14 Cc: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2013 17:25:49 -0000 On Sat, Apr 20, 2013 at 8:08 AM, Warren Block wrote: > On Fri, 19 Apr 2013, Mehmet Erol Sanliturk wrote: > > Dears All , >> >> There are USB monitors , such as : >> >> http://us.aoc.com/monitor_**displays/e2251fwu >> >> >> >> In FreeBSD , is there a possibility to attach such monitors for displays ? >> > > A small possibility. If we can use USB to VGA adapters , it will be easy and also old monitors ( or cheap LCD monitors ) may be used without requiring another computer . Thank you very much . Mehmet Erol Sanliturk
