I am using Logitech Webcam C525. So fare I have be= en able to use it flawlessly with drivers tat came with the base system. However, those same drivers fared rather poorly when I used them with audio/musicpd, so I tried to use audio/oss. So far so good. There has been a great improvement on the output quality given by musicpd, but my webcam doesn't work with these modules -- kernel automatically tries to create a /dev/dsp* device. To do that, it requires sound.ko module, which conflicts with module osscore.ko, supplied by the audio/oss port. Not knowing what to do, it starts to panic. Is there a way to use multimedia/webcamd with audio/oss, or is this unsupported? I am running FreeBSD 9.1-STABLE #3 r251600. In order to use the port audio/oss, I had to disable the sound.ko, so I had to exclude it from the kernel, and add it as a module. I agree, that snd_uaudio.ko brought improvements. I like it a lot. But snd_hda.ko, which I use to listen to music make those scratchy sounds all the time, where the music should be crystal clear. I will try now with the GENERIC kernel, and the kernel without sound.ko, and snd_hda.ko, but with snd_uaudio.ko enabled and see what will happen. I enabled dumpdev=3D"AUTO" in my /etc/rc.conf, to get the full output, but there was no file in /var/log showing anything, so I just wrote here what I managed to see on the screen: (ada0:ata5:0:0:0): Error 5, Retries exahusted (ada0:ata5:0:0:0): Synchronize cache failed (ada1:ata5:0:1:0): FLUSHCACHE48. The newest boards - starting with the Leonardo - also have the ability to provide a variety of HID devices at different endpoints. The older boards work fine. With the leonardo, the umodem device attaches as the board boots (or resets), and the /dev/ttyU* files are created for it. The device then detaches before or as the user code starts running, meaning the files vanish. >How-To-Repeat: Plug a leonardo board into a USB port on your machine. Reset it if needed. As it reboots (the L led will be blinking), you can see the /dev/tty* files appear. They will be gone after the reboot is finished. >Fix: I don't have a fix. The board can be programmed by hitting reset shortly before running avrdude (so for now, this is a low priority problem). >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jun 12 04:20:02 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@smarthost.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4885B623 for ; Wed, 12 Jun 2013 04:20:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206c::16:87]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 382EE1D69 for ; Wed, 12 Jun 2013 04:20:02 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.7/8.14.7) with ESMTP id r5C4K1d1006989 for ; Wed, 12 Jun 2013 04:20:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.7/8.14.7/Submit) id r5C4K1Li006988; Wed, 12 Jun 2013 04:20:01 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2013 04:20:01 GMT Message-Id: <201306120420.r5C4K1Li006988@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Cc: From: Mike Meyer Subject: Re: usb/179505: Kernel detaches Arduino Leonardo (and similar) board umodem after the arduino boots X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list Reply-To: Mike Meyer List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2013 04:20:02 -0000 The following reply was made to PR usb/179505; it has been noted by GNATS. I have C experience, so if it has to come down to that, I'm not afraid to write code, although I will need pointer since I've never looked at FreeBSD code yet. Physically, the device has the usual 104/105 keys, a multimedia key block, backlight, and extra keys labelled G1 to G12, M1 to M3, and MR. The purpose of the extra keys is gaming macros: M1 to M3 select a "macro page", each of them having 12 slots accessed through G1 to G12. Pressing MR before Gn lets one record a macro, and pressing Gn replays the macro. I don't know how much of this is handled by the windows driver, however one advertised point of the G110 is that macros are stored in the keyboard, so configuration is preserved when plugging the keyboard in another computer (e.g. in LAN parties). However my personal needs don't go anywhere that far, and I would be happy with merely remapping G1..12 to F13..24 or numeric pad keycodes. Logically, the device registers itself as a USB hub, behind which are two HID devices, one USB audio (which works fine out-of-the-box too) and one physical USB socket on the keyboard. Each HID device has a keyboard interface followed by a consumer-control interface. One of them, registered as "Gaming Keyboard G110", transmits events for the standard keys through the keyboard interface (and works fine with ukbd) and for the multimedia keys through the CC interface (requires tinkering with uhidd but otherwise fine too). The other is registered as "LOGITECH G110 G-keys" and is much more mysterious. By default ukbd recognizes the keyboard part, and sends F1..12 keycodes when respective G1..12 is pressed, while M? keys are inert. uhid tries to attach to the CC part, but fails with error code 12, maybe because the CC part doesn't have IN interrupt ep. Looking around the internet for drivers, I have found some sequences and reverse-engineered mappings. So I have some `usbconfig do_request` lines to manipulate backlight color and individual backlighting of M? keys, which is as much as can be visibly done on this keyboard. Moreover, whenever a G? or a M? key is pressed, two reports are transmitted through the keyboard interface endpoint. Report Id 1 seems to have a keyboard-like behavior, with 6 bytes containing numbers designated keys that are currently down, and Report Id 2 is a three-byte bitfield whose first two bytes indicate the status of each of the 16 G? and M? keys. Attached here are dmesg output relevant to the keyboard when it is plugged in, and uhidd output on the G-key HID. At this point, would anyone have any idea or pointer on how I can help improve support for the extra function of my new keybaord? IMHO, the old behavior is so confusing and unintuitive that we should not maintain it. Can you clarify how "hide-r" and "unhide-r" would differ from plain "hide" and "unhide". The current syntax already uses pattern matching via fnmatch(9). > Is this stack element really needed? > > + char specname[SPECNAMELEN + 1]; Need to check if M_WAITOK malloc is possible here. -- Jaakko From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jun 13 20:23:27 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DEB28B94; Thu, 13 Jun 2013 20:23:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jhb@freebsd.org) Received: from bigwig.baldwin.cx (bigwig.baldwin.cx [IPv6:2001:470:1f11:75::1]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BAF5F1109; Thu, 13 Jun 2013 20:23:27 +0000 (UTC) Received: from jhbbsd.localnet (unknown [209.249.190.124]) by bigwig.baldwin.cx (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 20DF3B984; Thu, 13 Jun 2013 16:23:27 -0400 (EDT) From: John Baldwin To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: amd64/179376: xhci ehci irq storm Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2013 10:18:30 -0400 User-Agent: KMail/1.13.5 (FreeBSD/8.2-CBSD-20110714-p25; KDE/4.5.5; amd64; ; ) References: <201306110920.r5B9K1m4071258@freefall.freebsd.org> <51B7563D.20807@sviba.cz> <20130611174822.GR3047@kib.kiev.ua> In-Reply-To: <20130611174822.GR3047@kib.kiev.ua> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-15" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <201306131018.30778.jhb@freebsd.org> X-Greylist: Sender succeeded SMTP AUTH, not delayed by milter-greylist-4.2.7 (bigwig.baldwin.cx); Thu, 13 Jun 2013 16:23:27 -0400 (EDT) Cc: Konstantin Belousov , Michal Sviba , freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2013 20:23:27 -0000 On Tuesday, June 11, 2013 1:48:22 pm Konstantin Belousov wrote: > --- a/sys/dev/usb/controller/xhci_pci.c > +++ b/sys/dev/usb/controller/xhci_pci.c > @@ -171,11 +170,22 @@ xhci_pci_attach(device_t self) > > usb_callout_init_mtx(&sc->sc_callout, &sc->sc_bus.bus_mtx, 0); > > - rid = 0; > - sc->sc_irq_res = bus_alloc_resource_any(self, SYS_RES_IRQ, &rid, > - RF_SHAREABLE | RF_ACTIVE); > + sc->sc_irq_rid = 0; > + count = pci_msi_count(self); > + if (count >= 1) { > + if (count > 1) > + count = 1; You can just drop the if and always do the assignment here, yes? I remember somebody complained that xhci(4) cannot attach on the Macs with the diagnostic about missing PRT entry for routing the legacy interrupt. As if Apple does not care about proper legacy routing. Hopefully, use of MSI-X would help there too.
