            Bug ID: 192541
           Summary: [patch] www/linux-f10-flashplugin11: drop
libflashsupport now that ALSA works fine
           Product: Ports Tree

        Depends on: 169896

Created attachment 145600
  --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=145600&action=edit
use alsa (f10 and c6)

After bug 169896 there's no need to depend on libflashsupport hardcoded to
s16le. It should behave like following:

1/ on playback Flash plugin dlopen's libasound.so
2/ libasound.so chooses output plugin depending on /usr/local/etc/asound.conf
3/ "plug" may convert sample format if output plugin doesn't support
4/ either linux oss plugin talks directly to /dev/dsp or
linux pulseaudio/jack plugin dispatches commands to native daemon
which uses its own plugin to talk to /dev/dsp

Beware, removing asound.conf, not installing oss/pulse/jack alsa plugin or not
applying bug 169896 would lead to no sound with:

ALSA lib confmisc.c:768:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'
ALSA lib conf.c:4185:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver
returned error: No such file or directory

Can someone with a web camera confirm audio capture still works fine?

Well, you can say that Skype partially works since you can login and chat ;)
I'm working on getting the PulseAudio part fixed, and maybe then check video
as well. =20

I will push the pulseaudio ports soon, when I got them working right.
Hopefully that won't take much longer ;)

I will. Thank you for trying them out!

Not sure if it's the right thread, unsuccess story: i'm trying skype4.3
with -c6 ports from https://github.com/xmj/linux-ports on RELENG_9; so far
- it starts even w/o pulseaudio libraries (and no complains in term), but
nothing works besides the contacts list and statuses fetched - e.g. the
chat messages are neither sent nor delivered (while 4.2 worked fine for
everything).

Hi,

in older versions of Virtualbox (4.2.x) and FreeBSD (9.x) I was able to pass through the USB 2.0 storage devices (pendrives/disks/...) to the VirtualBox virtual machine, but it does not work now with FreeBSD 10.x and VirtualBox 4.3.x.

The older known 'workaround' with **sysctl hw.usb.ehci.no_hs=1** also does not work, any hints?

Regards,
vermaden

Hi all.

There was a long time ago when I started to use pure zvol's as
VirtualBox disks. This way virtual machines were working faster due to
default smaller cluster size and I also can snapshot them and mount
right from the OS. Too bad this also required setting 'use host i/o
cache' at storage controller properties. Without that most guest OS
would just break or hang.

Recently 10-STABLE was shown some improvements:

1. zfs set volmode=dev <zvol>

Now you can mark zvol as a dev node preventing system from touching it.
Also this makes working with zvol simpler.

2. r269429 (MFC r269123): Implement separate I/O dispatch method for
ZVOLs in "dev" mode.

After this one if you have zvol's marked as volmode=dev you can turn off
useHostIOCache for your virtual machines. And they would also work much
faster! But alas after that VirtualBox becomes unstable and your
machines can also fail on heavy IO.

Hello. This afternoon when I try to sign onto Skype, I get:

"Periodic UIC Update Failed"

I haven't updated ports recently. Does anyone have an idea?
I heard Skype was closing down old versions.

Someone will need to update the Skype port to the latest Linux version
and see if it works on our current version of Linux emulation.

I don't use it but https://github.com/xmj/linux-ports has Skype
4.2.0.13.

I've been using ZVOL's as Vbox disks for maybe @ 3 years including some
exported as ISCSI. The break/hang you describe is totally unfamiliar to me
even though my guests include various Linux distros, different
versions/types of BSD, and several flavors of Windows. These included a
mixture of i386/amd64 guests. I do not set "use host i/o cache" on any
systems(not all have ZVOL snapshots but most do).

1 & 2 look very interesting. If that makes it into 10.1, I'll be giving it
a whirl.

Hello,

I' building my ports with poudriere 3.1pre on head. The port
emulators/linux_base-f10 can not be build due to a problem with one file
listed in the Makefile which seems to not exist anymore (or at least not
with the correct SHA256 signature and filesize). What makes me wonder is
that the file gamin-0.1.9-6.fc10.src.rpm itself is not used to build the
port, poudriere only stops because it can not fetch this file;

If one builds the port normal (with make install) the missing file is
not an issue and the port just installs fine.

The file in question is in the Makefile in the list of SRC_DISTFILES
which is part of DISTFILES:

DISTFILES=              ${BIN_DISTFILES} ${SRC_DISTFILES}

and only the files in BIN_DISTFILES are used to build the port.

If I comment out the single file, poudriere is happy.

Why the normal 'make install' can build the port and poudriere can not?

Thanks

	matthias

Looking at your error msg's closer, it appear AIO might be enabled.
FreeBSD, ZVOL's, and AIO have a reported incompatability:

I've read in various places (and tested myself with a couple of version on
Linux) that any version before skype 4.3.0.37 will not connect.

The skype port at: https://github.com/vassilisl/freebsd-ports/tree/master/n=
et-im/skype4
will connect (if you use the f20 ports https://github.com/vassilisl/freebsd=
-linux_base-f20 ;) )
but it doesn't have sound working. Both xmj and I are working on getting
that version of Skype on c6 and f20 linux emulation bases respectivelly,
which basically means get it to talk to pulseaudio.

If anyone has experience with that, please shout! :)

Regards,
Vassilis

The problem not in the skype. The problem in the linux pulse audio libs=
.
I try to setup pulse audio server on freebsd and configure to tcp/ip pr=
otocol - works fine. But linux pulse client with the same config don't =
work (I tried simple console utils).=20
I don't know how to trace problem. But possible pulse audio libs requir=
e some missing lib (open by dlopen)

For GPLed binaries (RPMs) we have the obligation to provide the src
(SRPMs). As such the src needs to be fetched on the FreeBSD ports build
cluster and provided together with the binaries.

On a normal install PACKAGE_BUILDING is not defined. I assume poudriere
is defining it.

I don't know of PACAKGE_BULDING implies BATCH or if BATCH is enough to
build non-interactively. So a quick solution could be to remove this
PACKAGE_BULDING from non-FreeBSD-ports-build-cluster builds. The right
solution is to check where the missing file can be found and commit a
fix to the port.

Sorry hadn't had the chance to take a look at that at all; I have -f20 ports
lying all around getting them up to shape. But there are others working on
-c6,c7. You might have better luck getting an answer for this if you start
a new thread for skype 4.3 on -c6, so it is not lost in the -f20 discussion.

I spent hours in googling around and fetching files with that name
gamin-0.1.9-6.fc10.src.rpm from servers all over the world. I could not
find any which matches the SIZE and SHA256 signature. And, I'm not the
authority to decide which one is the correct file. There are some with a
size of around 650 KByte, while the distinfo file says some 10K:

$ fgrep gamin-0.1.9-6.fc10.src.rpm distinfo.i386
SHA256 (rpm/i386/fedora/10/gamin-0.1.9-6.fc10.src.rpm) = cd3be5866aae06398e919eaa412af2d92b04b63139dc1a20e8377c5bf98c0e84
SIZE (rpm/i386/fedora/10/gamin-0.1.9-6.fc10.src.rpm) = 10649

Over to maintainer :-)

Thanks

I still have that file, and it's not an rpm, it's html. (attached)

SHA256 (/usr/ports/distfiles/rpm/i386/fedora/10/gamin-0.1.9-6.fc10.src.rpm) = cd3be5866aae06398e919eaa412af2d92b04b63139dc1a20e8377c5bf98c0e84

So probably the 650k one should be used instead...

I did not checked it either.

I did:

# cd /usr/ports/emulators/linux_base-f10
# svn up
Updating '.':
U distinfo.i386
U Makefile
Actualizado a la revisión 365065.

# cp distinfo.i386 Makefile /usr/local/poudriere/ports/ports-head/emulators/linux_base-f10/

# rm /usr/local/poudriere/data/packages/freebsd-head-ports-head/All/linux_base-f10-10_7.txz

# poudriere bulk -j freebsd-head -p ports-head emulators/linux_base-f10

$ ls -l /usr/ports/distfiles/rpm/i386/fedora/10/gamin-*

i.e. it fetches the correct file now. Tested positiv.

Thanks
