I still can't reproduce the crash. I edited crash.xls in scalc and edited cell A1. Screenshot attached. I'm guessing this has to be system specific in some way. I'm testing on 8.4-STABLE i386. Since you aren't getting a core file, soffice is probably catching the SIGSEGV and going into recovery mode.
