Translators and translated documentation is often the first encounter people will have with a project like FreeBSD. Our translation processes have not kept up with the quantity of our documentation. Fixing that would make translating much less work, and allow us to lower the barrier to entry for volunteer translators. At the same time, it would simplify editing documentation for English speakers. During the Developer Summit at BSDCan 2014, Benedict Reuschling presented an approach to this using existing tools for the PO/gettext translation system used by many other projects: https://wiki.freebsd.org/201405DevSummit/Translation Personally, I only speak English, but would still like to make it easier for others to translate our documentation. I=E2=80=99ll chime in as well. I am another FreeBSD Documentation = Committer (amongst others). I am (with rene@) the main translator for = the Dutch Documentation Project. We are one of the projects that are = affected by the high rate of english updates, which makes us unable to = properly follow. Having an easier system to do translations would make us capable of = keeping it up to date even better then we did in the past. My languages are mainly Dutch and English, but I can read German as well = :-) cheers Remko >=20 -- /"\ Best regards, | remko@FreeBSD.org \ / Remko Lodder | remko@EFnet X http://www.evilcoder.org/ | / \ ASCII Ribbon Campaign | Against HTML Mail and News --Apple-Mail=_7AA5C858-85FF-4DA2-8550-8B290AA6E9AA Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=signature.asc Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: Message signed with OpenPGP using GPGMail -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: GPGTools - http://gpgtools.org iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJUjMTGAAoJEKjD27JZ84ywLr8P/3UnHEQJ+MpCTD8aD4aTlVvy pZreuGZMM9GKhIz1y+NvzTOZZrLgnjlwNpfdbM05WaDpCItViZsaMzNYCAgHg0H9 ZsZtX1Hx9yTEdBcCY5EhDc67A53oaCjemIWzHDKPYs8D20pYm4CEEAn2YhEDPmZx 2otUgbcqNCRmAqlJdy7tYxV6sI6rCYMDAB3+ZnAerBl0BDufQcvaCNz/GAM1Ddf/ /bkNc09mzylRimswjTF9V28zHmaEf3LSN2ZoplvIsbxdrnfp7s7J3Q7z5IzN9x/i NpsRWTed1p+TnViv33Kzz1bgEvHc/zDN7csR6ipcy6L5UBWv4LIZGIl6f73UXOVc /ub/VR2aq0ELYl/WT7cynlJfF6uA0MMMY1BTbgnYdIJYaLPn3pm9cxgtxlwOAqgm Bc+NHG6FVO4RD2Pzft1vfwJNJ/te1ufzedhFxmxfSlurEbvA7MJ0Ctmu/f+CSF1t RpOgm/6CmXKxc/BTteyvT0K+8DQ7AIYlgARFAkXI1u6ge91B9oeg6D9UMMhzReiG JzqFpmZjN+qg+NAO0oUsKs2nkSXG6p3HzRQrOWgGNsC4omzGyeX0Ikt2DTeU+X0h RWSK/XPYMoBhxkfx44e8SqZUf0nBpj6zIkSl1+IstLyMy5+1dovtODDb4YEJ1V3m oN2xqJUkTAHt13ZuQWQW =i1z6 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Apple-Mail=_7AA5C858-85FF-4DA2-8550-8B290AA6E9AA--
