I took this as an oppertunity to become comfortable with the bug tracking system. I have tried to improve the documentation and filed a report. This is out of the handbook and not changed: The key combinations Alt+F1 through Alt+F8 have been reserved by FreeBSD for switching between virtual consoles. Use Alt+F1 to switch to the system console (ttyv0), Alt+F2 to access the first virtual console (ttyv1), Alt+F3 to access the second virtual console (ttyv2), and so on. I have added the part below: Comming from the graphical environemt Ctrl+Alt+F1 through Ctrl+Alt+F8 switches to a virtual console. Press Alt+F9 to switch back to the graphical environment. Now I have three questions. 1) The documentation applies for the use case with xdm configured on tty8 as in the table of section 4.2.1. In case xdm is not activated the standard configuration foresees one additional console. I think adding this information would overload the documentation. Is the documentation and my add on ok? This is related to the problem how detailed the documentation should be without blowing up everything. 2) I have generated my first bug report as https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=197685 Is it ok as it is? If something is wrong will somebody contact me or do I have to check bugzilla from time to time? Is it possible to interfer with somebodies work by filing a bug report? I do want to avoid any negative emotions. 3) Is it good practice to take the user name of the FreeBSD forum for the bugzilla account or does it not matter? Thank you for your time! This flag has been made obsolete with commit r252310 [1] and during bootup (10.1-RELEASE) the following is printed now: /etc/rc: WARNING: $geli_swap_flags is obsolete. Ignored. So, if geli_swap_flags is really obsolete it should be removed from the documentation. But I wonder if it's still possible to change certain settings for encrypted swap devices. Thanks, C. In the quick start section igor is mentioned which works well. Unfortunaltely I have overlooked it first because it is just mentioned once. In the other sections the files are checked by xmllint. On by system I have problems with xmllint. Even the self generated file a.txt can not be checked as below: xmllint --valid --noout /home/chris/Projekte/a.txt The response is /home/chris/Projekte/a.txt:2: validity error : Validation failed: no DTD found ! abc ^ Does igor included the functions of xmllint or not? Is it necessary to verify a document ifirst by xmllint and then by igor? Or is the test using igor enough? I am using FreeBSD for about one year. Therefore I am not able to generate big documents which are valuable in terms of the content. I can help in changing docuemnts and by translating to German. It looks to make you followed the conventions like two spaces after a period, the correct indent level, catches common typos and incorrect forms of works from the wordlist. It is not the same as xmllint, which checks the validity of the xml. XML documents require a DTD, which defines which elements are valid for use in the document. A typical article will look something like this:
