Not sure if you know about this = issue yet, but didn=E2=80=99t want to assume. Basically, Cassandra 2.1.x = fails on Freebsd 10.x using the OpenJDK 7, but works on FreeBSD 9.x. = Additionally, in my VM using the Linux JDK cause the server itself to = freeze, in VirtualBox/VMWare. The Cassandra Ticket below explains the = technical details, and provides a patch, but the conclusion was not to = fix it because it=E2=80=99s Java and should work anywhere, and they = primarily test only on linux. Given that the same JDK works on FreeBSD = 9.x, I presume its specific to the combination with the 10.x os, but I = can=E2=80=99t be sure. I have attached the url to the ticket which = includes the patch, technical discussion, etc. Anyways, thanks for all = the great work! https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-8325 = From owner-freebsd-java@freebsd.org Wed Dec 2 21:56:19 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5653EA3F993 for ; Wed, 2 Dec 2015 21:56:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3FE9E1B66 for ; Wed, 2 Dec 2015 21:56:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 3CFE9A3F990; Wed, 2 Dec 2015 21:56:19 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: java@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3CA82A3F98F for ; Wed, 2 Dec 2015 21:56:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 2D7D21B65 for ; Wed, 2 Dec 2015 21:56:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id tB2LuJXi066216 for ; Wed, 2 Dec 2015 21:56:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: java@FreeBSD.org Subject: maintainer-feedback requested: [Bug 204977] [PATCH] java/openjdk8: Use late in pkg-message's fstab entries Date: Wed, 02 Dec 2015 21:56:19 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Type: request Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.20 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 02 Dec 2015 21:56:19 -0000 Tobias Kortkamp has reassigned Bugzilla Automation 's request for maintainer-feedback to java@FreeBSD.org: Bug 204977: [PATCH] java/openjdk8: Use late in pkg-message's fstab entries https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=204977 --- Description --- Created attachment 163784 --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=163784&action=edit openjdk8.diff The pkg-message for openjdk8 suggests adding two fstab entries. But when using a separate boot partition (or boot pool with a standard ZFS configuration as proposed by the installer when using encryption) adding them can lead to the system booting to single user mode (see https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/11-current-boots-to-single-user-with-fdescfs -linprocfs-in-fstab.53163/#post-298637). Either loading fdescfs(5) (and procfs(5) but that is part of GENERIC) from /boot/loader.conf or adding the late option fixes the problem for those systems AFAICT (see attached patch). This also affects the pkg-message of shells/bash.
