If you want to test this while I see if I can make a port for it, simply use bundle to install it. Other than the standard patch file fixes, the plist is changed to mostly match the output of 'make makeplist', which does away with the deprecated @dirrmtry. I would appreciate some review of the dependencies since I don't understand them enough to know if they are ideal unchanged. However, I was able to upgrade from 2.5.2 using the package I built and currently have a functional instance of 2.6.2. I know that I can change the version by editing /etc/make.conf but just wondering if you already know of some pain points of going to 2.2 by default or why that's the current decision. I'm moving my machine to 2.2 and testing but I tend to think that it shouldn't be a major pain. Thanks in advance. There are still a number of ports that don't build or work with 2.2. I'd ha= ve to test again to give you exact numbers, but it was more than a handfull of rubygem- and ruby- ports that didn't build. Also, sysutils/puppet, which is quite important to many users, doesn't support Ruby 2.2 yet (puppet 4.0 wil= l). Breaking puppet by default would be far from ideal. Switching to 2.2 as default locally and testing is encouraged. :) Steve From owner-freebsd-ruby@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Mar 15 16:05:04 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: ruby@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher AECDH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id F1DF085F; Sun, 15 Mar 2015 16:05:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-qc0-x22e.google.com (mail-qc0-x22e.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:400d:c01::22e]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id B11752BF; Sun, 15 Mar 2015 16:05:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: by qcaz10 with SMTP id z10so25514859qca.1; Sun, 15 Mar 2015 09:05:02 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:from:date:message-id:subject:to :cc:content-type; bh=MTKx0MBhkNuM1j3ddrhSVoTkYOAhnl4XtXcdZp4EwTg=; b=BI+Meypyot3mo3yyV2hXyIEMi/ny/Duz9+MAxQiHiFahi/bsVIUioIQYdqDwlC3E9D ieSW6ZakmadYjBvfAbeAi+fd7V4JKF75IeeRO2OJa5nkibrQ/Zu6pwEJol8aMkpxAnmi 1+y8calvZQ4dbz6z1zyKU0eEODOo6razgOE9bNuylI0HvBMSclzxWuZl0rdOTUz9Z1sO +5eC5DnoqzlFNNkXnIzO+RzFKAZ0D7g9z3W5ymm9KVX++qoDVnDF9dyi0nksKlnGu3Jj UeujMaa0Ujc5lXK3X98UjPFGFFYzRrcfkQVjSXt1a8bIidQp5NIdSdpFyHu5gHHhxmpU chtA== X-Received: by 10.55.26.104 with SMTP id a101mr90724066qka.81.1426435502837; Sun, 15 Mar 2015 09:05:02 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.229.53.138 with HTTP; Sun, 15 Mar 2015 09:04:42 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <20150315153826.GA2814@mouf.net> References: <20150315153826.GA2814@mouf.net> From: Santiago Pastorino Date: Sun, 15 Mar 2015 13:04:42 -0300 Message-ID: Subject: Re: Ruby bsd.default-versions.mk DEFAULT_VERSION To: Steve Wills Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Cc: ruby@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-ruby@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18-1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD-specific Ruby discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 15 Mar 2015 16:05:04 -0000 Good to know, thanks for the information :). In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. One common problem is that recent versions of FreeBSD use clang instead of gcc by default. Another common problem is that the compiles succeed on the i386 and amd64 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 8.x/9.x/10.x/-current with target architecture'.) portname: archivers/ruby-lha broken because: Does not build with Ruby 2.0 or Ruby 2.1 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=archivers&portname=ruby-lha portname: archivers/ruby-zip broken because: Does not build with Ruby 2.1 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=archivers&portname=ruby-zip portname: devel/rubygem-igraph broken because: does not build with igraph-0.7.1 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=devel&portname=rubygem-igraph If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: archivers/ruby-lha description: Ruby extension to unpack LHA-compressed files maintainer: ruby@FreeBSD.org status: BROKEN deprecated because: Does not work with Ruby 2.x expiration date: 2015-03-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=archivers&portname=ruby-lha portname: converters/ruby-iconv description: iconv wrapper class for Ruby maintainer: ruby@FreeBSD.org status: IGNORE deprecated because: Not needed with Ruby 2.x expiration date: 2015-03-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=converters&portname=ruby-iconv If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message.
