For the most part, the patch just adds opening question marks on those sentences that start with a question. I subscribed to the spanish mailing list ( doc@es.freebsd.org ) about a year and a half ago and sent them an email, but I haven't got a reply since and the list seems to be inactive since 2010. The spanish documentation in general seems to be in dire straits. For starters, the spanish version of the handbook covers FreeBSD 4, 5 and 6 (when all three versions EOLed a long time ago), and the FAQ is even more outdated, dealing with FreeBSD 2.0. I would love to fix those problems (and sync the spanish documentation with the english version) but I don't know where or how to send the patches (I uploaded my first patch to bugzilla about a week ago, but no one stepped up to review it yet so I'm not sure it is the right place). I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some pointers. Our current translation system is not really a system. Translators must watch for commits and look at diffs, and this really adds a lot of work to an already-difficult job. One of our ongoing projects is to get rid of all that overhead and use the PO translation system. This would make the job much easier for translators. This is one of the things we will be talking about at the BSDCan developer summit in June. In the meantime, I'm not sure what to suggest. Finding a Spanish-speaking documentation committer to check and commit your patches would be a start. Unfortunately, I don't know if any of the doc committers speak Spanish. I had committed myself to update this Spanish FAQ, but time is scarce and the lack of a proper translation system is quite discouraging... or a good enough excuse! ;-) I really hope your work in BSDCan will change the situation. In the meantime, I can confirm that the patch from Federico looks correct (thanks by the way!), but I’m not a committer. I’ve taken a look at /share/misc/commiters-doc.dot and indeed there aren’t any obvious Spanish-speaking names with an active commit bit. At present, we do not yet have a PO translation system. The current system, such as it is, involves manual translation of the DocBook original in English to each of the target languages. There is history behind this. FreeBSD is one of the oldest open source projects around, and the translation techniques arose early and led to some path dependence. Most of the newer projects now use some type of PO translation system. There are multiple components of those, from the low-level tools that extract and merge translated strings from the source, to high-level websites that allow translators to simply translate rather than dealing with the source. We need to set up our own system, and have been working towards it. Help from people experienced in using the low-level PO tools to extract and merge translation files will be very welcome. These tools need to be integrated with our existing toolchain and customized DocBook, then we can work on high-level usage like Pootle or even "outsourced" translations with sites like Transifex.
