When I turn it on (with the FreeBSD-11-Current armv6 on the SD card) only the red light shows up, but I got it to work with raspbian. I used dd to write the image to the SD card on both images. You need to have the right image (i.e. Rasperry Pi 2 image if you have one). 2. Images are sometimes broken. 3. I need "hdmi_safe=1" in my CONFIG.TXT. As you got nothing, it seems almost you didn't write it properly to the sd card, or it's that hdmi option. -- All the best, Berend de Boer --pgp-sign-Multipart_Mon_May__9_14:40:15_2016-1 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: OpenPGP Digital Signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iQIcBAABCAAGBQJXL/iPAAoJEKOfeD48G3g5Y18P/RdebFMEBhFMTXlFPg73QdH3 9iBNsAN4e+HA2IW40GjoeBANzDxWtL349ci55jDCc5IJPaGhANHIFJ8+o/BIfqEB bbDiInQJOMasF52yF+dXqX5QI7QX7Oogt7pbmKUbX+GnmrUpjAPvTCfCHS8HSIpz wLIhlqkmJk5P5AXKsAHuPQBqPwH0ksR0qr+ANF7RkBmMQrxR3IOA6vXBvVLpu90m iwTa5LQmHBp85BKUtQMyTQpkWJ50SwkiM8yD7qgRyQZ+Lx2nL5Grp8tEUK+zqshZ L1VSatoi4oCAvGPRjDffwG3KbC8uCf/AC/z/BZA6PxB5SlGkopijsAKjjPDhvs9p kb7epkrJNnTjPRbUubmR2ODvjzid3kMrDK20fL3D6QkBTS7809XWrlqLSEijPsf1 T+RLXhZo7KcZ9LVwSLFKwzb2COWnRziViy8rH8G9xIZWYX0WBQSj7MNqwp6GcMkM 2plA8IDbsychy/lrzowTW+2Y64z5gQTIIZl+c+5CQpJ6WaV4HmJeUe/M32LzNzuA DFDH90Pr8CCThd5pPPU/ZREESJ6VEZx2T9OcDwGIEdXcr4XvLvadXzdBCyK77zQj CUFz5LKGN9950c6buKR5eCa9zA4yMly4yN7tWzedlTgozvDCexSWppgDPnxjlRuq Gcv9SaRHCL5R2lbGZxro =VxtR -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --pgp-sign-Multipart_Mon_May__9_14:40:15_2016-1-- From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Mon May 9 06:14:25 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3BFC4B34DE3 for ; Mon, 9 May 2016 06:14:25 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from vbotka@gmail.com) Received: from mail-wm0-x22d.google.com (mail-wm0-x22d.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:400c:c09::22d]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id C70E919A0 for ; Mon, 9 May 2016 06:14:24 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from vbotka@gmail.com) Received: by mail-wm0-x22d.google.com with SMTP id a17so167507969wme.0 for ; Sun, 08 May 2016 23:14:24 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=date:from:to:cc:subject:message-id:in-reply-to:references :organization:mime-version; bh=Q+jamzLzcj6XDLV1WAXFwKMiLmwsMm9SKX/4NQ445Pk=; b=zNo6zsRaHYhEujK9kahQ54XKK7Wypnf8irFW9XbgHW/Kxd57NplvdsG23rngOCGTsH zj/0RfazzsftyiU7X+J8XVFBL/dQWRI2NO3omnBUbtDXfMao+kqGAI9zvmv4lcp01Lxg Fh4AGY/YcmR/uqabr5RPYjSeB4LFEN7ZPm9ZyizI5ex5/qDM8kLmYxBNfpKpCGKJzpCA aAMvDIhCGBaFlE5OsGtjqBkuodx17ZR4NMn7VHIKsRe4cdJJIz6aqxlhf4jYrV3Jj4YX hGXIyO8z2J4irbkG1o1VKXqciqp8A0b7wg3a0Nf9OuyzA7H3U+x12mPa7FO7eTgtzg5t 0+dA== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20130820; h=x-gm-message-state:date:from:to:cc:subject:message-id:in-reply-to :references:organization:mime-version; bh=Q+jamzLzcj6XDLV1WAXFwKMiLmwsMm9SKX/4NQ445Pk=; b=nMsD4AotO4EWy5l6JWKgAljPCpJFHGoAx61BBXTE29VO5kEjgE9qLv66UcG887zFYe 9WXjpJsEPgiqpfM81gft56uu/UpTP0I5Cr+/k/Z0Fdw0H7w6ZUfGS4dgPqz0PcsS9bZZ oOm5jiypjjxauXyhE/Lk7F8OwB7yzR6Gv3BLYkkiAwpUgfOTqJdfSmtMGeod7LE19OzI zfxF0XDg7Fbyi6wrrFTRGLWpsiUTFVDlxb5uzOmn7/+8XkD32OpD7sLK0B4ZXrR+u4cQ epPLX8zzuyG4uQ04vgGHBImQk3g3SmmXibu2OnmhaOFw9ePGLgrek2qAR4jv3MqBiymu Ncqg== X-Gm-Message-State: AOPr4FWc+zKUZ5Vto1L89bFUO0A+41S5qoNOnZVSQjh7m7Riv86uv32soi1UvZT4RhI8VA== X-Received: by 10.28.167.206 with SMTP id q197mr8805028wme.85.1462774463420; Sun, 08 May 2016 23:14:23 -0700 (PDT) Received: from planb.netng.org (ip-89-177-54-54.net.upcbroadband.cz. List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 10 May 2016 16:38:39 -0000 In trying to set up serial consoles on a quartet of RPI2 hosts two of the machine's consoles worked without explicit changes. The other two don't seem to work. If anybody can give me a hint what's wrong it would be much appreciated. The USB-serial adapters are these, using PL2303 chips: Btek® WINDOWS 8 Supported Debug Cable for Raspberry Pi USB Programming USB to TTL Serial Cable First, two RPI2s were set up with cross-connected consoles, so each provided serial access to the other. The setup worked without any issues. Next, all four hosts were arranged in a ring, with each host providing serial port access to the next in the ring. The two hosts which had working serial consoles in the first place continue to present a serial console to the monitoring host. The others do not, even after reboot. Here's an example: On the monitoring host: root@ns2:/home/bob # cu -l cuaU0 -s 115200 Connected ? The monitored host was rebooted via the network. It came back up in good order, but nothing appeared on the serial port. The kernel configs of all hosts are the same, dmesg on one "no console" machine reports in part: FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT #6 r292479: Sun Dec 20 07:09:08 PST 2015 ..... uart0: mem 0x201000-0x201fff irq 65 on simplebus0 uart0: console (115200,n,8,1) In this particular case I can see the wires on the GPIO header and they're in the right place. The USB-serial adapter is new out of the sealed box, so it seems unlikely to be defective. The one difference among the hosts is FreeBSD revision number. The hosts which offer usable serial consoles are r292412 and r299225, the two which don't are r292479 and r297367. All four kernel config files contain: # Comment following lines for boot console on serial port device vt device kbdmux device ukbd which seems backwards but causes no trouble in two of the machines. Any guidance appreciated! I posted on https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/56211/ and it was=20 suggested that I ask here. I'm having problems trying to get my host to recognize a USB FTDI=20 RS-485 serial port on an Olimex ARM A20 Lime host. To be clear, this is not a "I need to connect to the host console=20 port" problem, that is done and works. I'm trying to use the RS-485 port to talk to Modbus devices with a=20 custom application. The FTDI device has been tested on other hosts, and it works. When I use the same device on this host running Linux, it works=20 just fine. When I insert the FTDI RS-485 device (or any other FTDI or Prolific = serial device) into the FreeBSD host USB connector with=20 hw.usb.ehci.debug =3D 1 I get: ehci_roothub_exec: ehci after reset, status=3D0x00001801 ehci_disown: index=3D1 lowspeed=3D0 and then the port is unresponsive to any device plug events afterwar= ds. I used svn.head -r 298609 and crochet w/ a derived version of=20 cubieboard2 board profile and the ALLWINNER kernel. I've tried the Olimex DTBs that get built from that profile, but=20 the cubieboard2 DTB is the only one that gets me to a login prompt,=20 which isn't 100%, so I ran down the "build a DTB" road. I've successfully created a DTB, using=20 gnu/dts/arm/sun7i-a20-olinuxino-lime.dts, but commenting out the usb otg = port (I won't be using that port anyway) vbus detect pin configuration=20 that causes the kernel to panic on boot, which gets me mmm... about 98%=20 I'd say of what I think is a correct DTB for this host platform. Can anybody clue me into what is happening when I plug in the USB=20 serial device, and how to deal with it ? Any help with this would be appreciated ! Without any suggestions, I'm at the end of the road, and I'll have=20 to go back to Linux, which I'd rather not do. Does your board have OHCI/UHCI or only EHCI? How are the USB parts wired. Is there a High-Speed TT (USB HUB chip) connected to the EHCI port? Can you compare dmesg from Linux and FreeBSD and look for the USB parts. --HPS From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Wed May 11 16:14:11 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2C749B37725 for ; Wed, 11 May 2016 16:14:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jenkins-admin@FreeBSD.org) Received: from jenkins-9.freebsd.org (jenkins-9.freebsd.org [8.8.178.209]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1CFFD1EF2; Wed, 11 May 2016 16:14:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jenkins-admin@FreeBSD.org) Received: from jenkins-9.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by jenkins-9.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 66B351039; Wed, 11 May 2016 16:14:11 +0000 (UTC) Date: Wed, 11 May 2016 16:14:09 +0000 (GMT) From: jenkins-admin@FreeBSD.org To: andrew@FreeBSD.org, cem@FreeBSD.org, pfg@FreeBSD.org, jenkins-admin@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-arm@FreeBSD.org Message-ID: <1939146439.41.1462983251429.JavaMail.jenkins@jenkins-9.freebsd.org> Subject: FreeBSD_HEAD_arm64 - Build #3119 - Failure MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Jenkins-Job: FreeBSD_HEAD_arm64 X-Jenkins-Result: FAILURE Precedence: bulk Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.22 X-BeenThere: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.22 List-Id: "Porting FreeBSD to ARM processors." However, it does look like there's a conflict between whatever the rebooted kernel sets the port speed to and what the cu command line asks for. Seemingly the ucom or uplcom driver is more flexible after it recognizes the re-inserted device. bob On Thu, May 12, 2016 at 10:26:16AM -0700, bob prohaska wrote: > It looks like the problem is with USB: After rebooting the > Pi on the USB end cu runs but no connection results: > > root@www:/home/bob # cu -l cuaU0 -s 115200 > > [carriage returns echo, but no login prompt] > [next, unplug and re-plug the usb connector] > cu: unsupported speed 115200 > root@www:/home/bob # > [try cu again] > root@www:/home/bob # cu -l cuaU0 -s 115200 > Connected > > > FreeBSD/arm (www.zefox.net) (ttyu0) > > login: > [now all works as expected] > > Any ideas how to fix this? I don't have uart at the moment so am unable to see why it doesn't work, I used the wiki instructions to build an sd image but that didn't work at all, however I've made an image using ext2 /boot and rest of SD card as FreeBSD (a5) - I at least get hdmi signal however it reboots a couple of seconds afterwards (presumably either when loading kernel or booting it) So if anyone has an image I can dd (or any other pointers) that would be fantastic. I've commited the code into HEAD yesterday (minus the dts) so the easiest way is to grab a copy of it and compile a kernel. For u-boot you can use the one from previous mail or compile one your self from u-boot-201601 (using the orangepi-pc config). For creating a SD image if you don't want to do all the steps you can just take a recent snapshot for BANANAPI and override u-boot and kernel. The DTS haven't been commited because they come from u-boot and it will make import from linux harder, you can use my tree from github for the orangepi-one which include the DTS : https://github.com/evadot/freebsd/tree/orangepi-one -- Emmanuel Vadot
