(diskless boot) The entire root file system is mounted RO, and includes the entire base sys= tem (including /usr/local) The only other thing that's created is a memory disk for /var and /etc and = any NFS file systems used for mail. I do run ntpd (from ports) on each VM. I can try stopping ntpd and see if t= hat makes a difference. But knowing VM hosts, the clocks may drift quite a bit.= ... The common thread (difference) seems to be these are setup to be "diskless" boot VM's where their root filesystem is mounted RO / via NFS. (NetApp) I have bare metal hosts running 10.2 with no problem. But at the same time, I have VM hosts, which have a local disk (vmdk) which= are fine, and they're on the same physical ESXI hosts.
