Doing "devctl detach xhci0" before the removal of the USB 3.0 ExpressCard, there is no panic, the device gets deattached properly, and I can reconnect it later. Anyhow, because the mechanism holding the ExpressCard is not completely reliable, on the third time inserting the card, it did not hold and I got a panic, because it was immediately ejected without devctl detach. Due to the card not holding firmly, I often pulled it together with the usb device on 10.3-RELEASE and never got a panic. I guess it is a regression in the usb driver dealing with sudden loss of the device. The panic message is below, I guess I should take this discussion to freebsd-usb@, CCed. Also please include some parts of the preceeding dmesg. Do you have USB compiled into the kernel or loaded as a module? What does kldstat output after you plug the card? What is the dmesg leading up to this? The bug looks like some .ko was unloaded too early, due to refcounts dropping incorrectly. --HPS > > > Fatal trap 9: general protection fault while in kernel mode > cpuid = 1; acpic id = 01 > instruction pointer = 0x20:0xffffffff80b1549c > stack pointer = 0x28:0xfffffe022f62ca00 > frame pointer = 0x28:0xfffffe022f62ca70 > code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b > = DPL 0, pres 1, long 1, def32 0, gran 1 > processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 > current process = 14 (usbus1) > trap number = 9 > panic: general protection fault > cpuid = 1 > KDB: stack backtrace: > #0 0xffffffff80b24077 at kdb_backtrace+0x67 > #1 0xffffffff80ad93e2 at vpanic+0x182 > #2 0xffffffff80ad9253 at panic+0x43 > #3 0xffffffff80fa0d31 at trap_fatal+0x351 > #4 0xffffffff80fa09c8 at trap+0x768 > #5 0xffffffff80f84141 at calltrap+0x8 > #6 0xffffffff808f2f63 at usb_detach_device+0xf3 > #7 0xffffffff808f1d5b at usb_unconfigure+0x2b > #8 0xffffffff808f5623 at usb_free_device+0x103 > #9 0xffffffff808f58b1 at usb_bus_detach+0x161 > #10 0xffffffff80903e95 at usb_process+0x125 > #11 0xffffffff80a90055 at fork_exit+0x85 > #12 0xffffffff80f8467e at fork_trampoline+0xe > Uptime: 18m27s > Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a key on the console to abort From owner-freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Wed Sep 28 09:36:40 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4BBB4C00DB2 for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2016 09:36:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from me@janh.de) Received: from mout.kundenserver.de (mout.kundenserver.de [212.227.126.131]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mout.kundenserver.de", Issuer "TeleSec ServerPass DE-2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id B83FCB51 for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2016 09:36:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from me@janh.de) Received: from [192.168.178.49] ([84.175.67.119]) by mrelayeu.kundenserver.de (mreue004) with ESMTPSA (Nemesis) id 0MRhLp-1bMOqA0OfR-00SwSP; Wed, 28 Sep 2016 11:31:23 +0200 Subject: Re: Status of PCIe Hotplug? One comment regarding this patch - it works for logitech that uses tilt as = real "buttons" but it may break other devices. I have now a Rapoo 7100P which has standard buttons, wheel, 2 side buttons = and a tilt wheel - works like horizontal scroll. Mouse is properly detected, has dt set, reports dt -1 or +1 but only for pr= ess - no release (like scroll). So if we assign buttons 5 and 6 we never get release event and mouse is bricked (we have permanent mask 32 or 64 or both set). To get it to work I made a dirty fix - take out mask 32 or 64 from sc->sc_status.button in USB_ST_SETUP case. -- Tomek --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Wed Sep 28 20:34:06 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1191AC01F06 for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2016 20:34:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 011F116DA for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2016 20:34:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u8SKY5Q1002833 for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2016 20:34:05 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 201413] Pluggind in an old usb stick cause warnings Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2016 20:34:06 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: usb X-Bugzilla-Version: 10.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: philippe.michel7@sfr.fr X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2016 20:34:06 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D201413 --- Comment #1 from philippe.michel7@sfr.fr --- The issue has apparently been fixed at some point in release 11 (I don't se= e it after upgrading to 11.0-PRERELEASE r306368, the extraneous spaces are trimm= ed off the label) but was still present in 10.3-STABLE r305848. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Thu Sep 29 08:12:56 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 61E2EC025D1 for ; Thu, 29 Sep 2016 08:12:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from mail.turbocat.net (mail.turbocat.net [IPv6:2a01:4f8:d16:4514::2]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 2AFB634C; Thu, 29 Sep 2016 08:12:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from laptop015.home.selasky.org (unknown [62.141.129.119]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.turbocat.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 0BEF21FE022; Thu, 29 Sep 2016 10:12:53 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: Status of PCIe Hotplug? It worked file last time I tested it, but it was quite a long time ago. I can not say what went wrong here, but I guess that either USB somehow did not wait for cam_sim_free(), or something somewhere did not do reference counting properly, allowing destruction of some still referenced item. -- Alexander Motin From owner-freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Fri Sep 30 04:58:34 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9EDC3C01BA7 for ; Fri, 30 Sep 2016 04:58:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 822D7E37 for ; Fri, 30 Sep 2016 04:58:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u8U4wYsP007020 for ; Fri, 30 Sep 2016 04:58:34 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 213110] [PATCH] Add support for the Sierra MC7430 LTE modem Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2016 04:58:34 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: new X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: usb X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: patch X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: jlduran@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_id short_desc product version rep_platform op_sys bug_status keywords bug_severity priority component assigned_to reporter Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2016 04:58:34 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D213110 Bug ID: 213110 Summary: [PATCH] Add support for the Sierra MC7430 LTE modem Product: Base System Version: CURRENT Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Keywords: patch Severity: Affects Only Me Priority: --- Component: usb Assignee: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Reporter: jlduran@gmail.com Keywords: patch If possible, please MFC.
