Thanks for your answer. I had read both those documents (and others), but it's hard to tell what information is fresh and what is obsolete, as FreeBSD on Raspberry seems to be a moving target. I'd happily avoid switching to CURRENT, so if anyone can help in identifying which is the minimum version needed (e.g. 11-STABLE?), it would help me much. Also some more techinal discussion about what is missing from 11.1 would be very welcome. bye & Thanks av. Also some more techinal discussion about what is missing from 11.1 would=20 be very welcome. bye & Thanks av. _______________________________________________ freebsd-arm@freebsd.org mailing list https://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-arm To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-arm-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Sun Aug 20 18:41:40 2017 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 55F6DDE5748 for ; Sun, 20 Aug 2017 18:41:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from russ.haley@gmail.com) Received: from mail-pg0-x22a.google.com (mail-pg0-x22a.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:400e:c05::22a]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 24C066E9BE for ; Sun, 20 Aug 2017 18:41:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from russ.haley@gmail.com) Received: by mail-pg0-x22a.google.com with SMTP id m133so4568317pga.5 for ; Sun, 20 Aug 2017 11:41:40 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20161025; h=mime-version:content-transfer-encoding:message-id:date:subject:from :in-reply-to:references:to; bh=f+GEkjmAJ/DdH2ikqew1VPsn3/kYMcSf/OmuyVsALNY=; b=K/eqEZVwmBGJ0lt0hjDmw3JZ7wQbnn3MErY7/p6DGMa3WIbZqrWKuzNWfoOOW1g2GA s1/2wVm9Em/mXkZD1UOJlIuDW+IzgWz2rvecB1JmvIdW9+PJSoTUetcTcEqxc555U7wu TS+0Tbl8LAHb1fRNfHuUCIsd32BKfRD+NiRwaEK9HrXkyGJdV16tE2V55HSDbGFE0SOu 483Dt73lCPZUUasZIdmGcID/nJOS/qqPBGAFMHxhvksKFaEmNgtd4AetsXK7GCvPt+l2 FfGvSwWILMfNtjvYqrMaYT/BejHvLIC0hkrYJmkeinJFqhWQ29F+VCRE4u2oRudwJU6S ImNQ== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:mime-version:content-transfer-encoding :message-id:date:subject:from:in-reply-to:references:to; bh=f+GEkjmAJ/DdH2ikqew1VPsn3/kYMcSf/OmuyVsALNY=; b=V9mE01jyhgh56GI+d3eBwPgVIwl4dnawppCaN4+vTemmsKfagB339h8Dvnx6T9kzlm q3CanH5p3xJhcRIfYa8cLrfE1EPzIic/7sjgUmKJL2sEe72cxJiAqI/YBg1rfR3hy/eB khD39YO/laAlD2nr32zhxfSccIuoliHew1Ls6GxMQQi5voNxUsqOUkzFuM40v/H0ibad eRpqtENYkd403uEpNrnSE3tFW32Bzulzac9KZ0BEKB7VsYllFG47A2vLXdU+TlX0HbnB +C/vX5z02bghRCTCkpNiqSwj18Fsh1tCop8SQQXvzLdUKiJjJ5nJu0/zMuCtPRPdTkDS NP5w== X-Gm-Message-State: AHYfb5hEhSidzO1EZret+hCAyebMlrDY9Ln0T4gVpyX21NC5T/vx6hcG cctwPoB5cXZI4Q== X-Received: by 10.84.192.131 with SMTP id c3mr17072128pld.9.1503254499711; Sun, 20 Aug 2017 11:41:39 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [127.0.0.1] ([204.174.94.196]) by smtp.gmail.com with ESMTPSA id t3sm18735939pfb.147.2017.08.20.11.41.37 (version=TLS1 cipher=ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA bits=128/128); Sun, 20 Aug 2017 11:41:37 -0700 (PDT) Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Mailer: BlackBerry Email (10.3.3.2163) Message-ID: <20170820184137.6422611.79521.30693@gmail.com> Date: Sun, 20 Aug 2017 11:41:37 -0700 Subject: Re: 11.1 on RPi3 From: Russell Haley In-Reply-To: <20170820180752.6422611.74641.30691@gmail.com> References: <20170819133619.GA22517@mail.ru> <8e0fe3c9-1343-373a-0de4-c3117f5aca10@netfence.it> <20170820180752.6422611.74641.30691@gmail.com> To: Andrea Venturoli , freebsd-arm@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: "Porting FreeBSD to ARM processors." In FreeBSD the tradition is not to drop functionality in the !.0 timeframe. If that happened there would be a big announcement about it. It would violate our "Principle Of Least Astonishment" (POLA) which we try to live by. > The wiki contains more information > https://wiki.freebsd.org/arm64/rpi3 > https://wiki.freebsd.org/FreeBSD/arm/Raspberry Pi > but talks about CURRENT not 11.1. Most of the development for arm is going on in -current. Not everything is being merged to 11-STABLE. There is too much work to do for the volunteers we have available. This also applies to the documentation, which is clearly lagging. Your best bet right now is to join the community on IRC on EFNet on #bsdmips and ask questions if you need help. #bsdmips has evolved to be a catchall for our non-mainstream architectures. This is just the reality of a volunteer project. mcl From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Mon Aug 21 08:46:27 2017 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7A903DEF52D for ; Mon, 21 Aug 2017 08:46:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ml@netfence.it) Received: from smtp207.alice.it (smtp207.alice.it [82.57.200.103]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0AEE3653C3 for ; Mon, 21 Aug 2017 08:46:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ml@netfence.it) Received: from soth.ventu (79.13.168.184) by smtp207.alice.it (8.6.060.28) (authenticated as acanedi@alice.it) id 597E3FB209CAB209; Mon, 21 Aug 2017 10:46:18 +0200 Received: from alamar.ventu (alamar.local.netfence.it [10.1.2.18]) by soth.ventu (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id v7L8kGsw021226; Mon, 21 Aug 2017 10:46:17 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ml@netfence.it) X-Authentication-Warning: soth.ventu: Host alamar.local.netfence.it [10.1.2.18] claimed to be alamar.ventu Subject: Re: 11.1 on RPi3 To: Russell Haley , freebsd-arm@freebsd.org References: <20170819133619.GA22517@mail.ru> <8e0fe3c9-1343-373a-0de4-c3117f5aca10@netfence.it> <20170820180752.6422611.74641.30691@gmail.com> From: Andrea Venturoli Message-ID: Date: Mon, 21 Aug 2017 10:46:11 +0200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/52.2.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <20170820180752.6422611.74641.30691@gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Language: en-US Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-BeenThere: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: "Porting FreeBSD to ARM processors." I've noticed in the last month or so, that when I run 'reboot', the Pi pretty much just hangs and never reboots. I have to manually power cycle it to come back up. I'm using the UART for GPS NMEA, so I can't get logs from that, but on HDMI I'm not seeing anything when I run reboot. None of the normal shutdown messages, the screen doesn't blank, etc. It acts like it just hard hangs. Has anybody else seen this? The Pine64 guys told me to check the pine64 and armbian forums regarding it, here are some threads about it: https://github.com/longsleep/build-pine64-image/issues/5 https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=3D597&pid=3D15449#pid15449 And DamnHippi found the following very useful resources on the bug as well: https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/8/22/5 Theard starts here: https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/8/22/9 Also, to make it more tricky, not all Pine64 boards are having this issue. I hope these resources help fixing it. Regards, Gergely PS: I'm reachable on freenode/EFNet as phx, if any testing is needed, or ac= cess to a buggy board. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Tue Aug 22 19:11:22 2017 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 82BB6DDD364; Tue, 22 Aug 2017 19:11:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ilya@bakulin.de) Received: from olymp.kibab.com (unknown [IPv6:2a01:4f8:160:84c1::10]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4B20171219; Tue, 22 Aug 2017 19:11:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ilya@bakulin.de) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2017 15:11:20 -0400 From: Ilya Bakulin To: Chris Gordon Cc: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org, owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Beaglebone Black + FreeBSD + USB WiFi = WAP? If not: what does `top -Sa` show when you're running your speed test? Specifically what does "CPU:" line look like, and what are the top processes in the list? I've had an issue with FreeBSD acting as WAP (although using Atheros-based NIC) some years ago, the problem back then was that the machine CPU was just too slow to process the traffic. I managed to successfully do a clean install, but ran into system crash when trying to mount ZFS volumes from an external mmc card. The card was created on 11.0RC1 and has worked without any issues. Importing it crashed the board, yet made it appear ONLINE after the reboot. I still couldn't mount it though. As a test I created a pool on a USB stick, with the same results. A system crash, reboot, pool is online but i can't mount any of the volumes. Scrubbing works fine and finishes without an error. I connected with a serial cable and found this error: zpool panic: thread 0xc2f71000 terminating with rrw lock 0xc36fae98 held I tried raising the KSTACK_PAGES to 4, and even 6 without any result (and zpool keeps reporting i should raise it from 2 to 4). I've also lowered vm.kmem_size and vm.kmem_size_max. Same results. After this I did a fresh install of FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p1 and to my surprise thee whole pool is showing up and all volumes are mounted without a single error. Is there anything I can do to make 11.1-RELEASE work? thanks in advance, Arno From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Fri Aug 25 16:45:28 2017 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 25522DDC600 for ; Fri, 25 Aug 2017 16:45:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsdnewbie@freenet.de) Received: from mout0.freenet.de (mout0.freenet.de [IPv6:2001:748:100:40::2:2]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "*.freenet.de", Issuer "TeleSec ServerPass Class 2 CA" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D40506700D for ; Fri, 25 Aug 2017 16:45:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsdnewbie@freenet.de) Received: from [195.4.92.142] (helo=mjail2.freenet.de) by mout0.freenet.de with esmtpa (ID freebsdnewbie@freenet.de) (port 25) (Exim 4.89 #1) id 1dlHjX-0008Nt-TC for freebsd-arm@freebsd.org; Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:45:23 +0200 Received: from [::1] (port=33986 helo=mjail2.freenet.de) by mjail2.freenet.de with esmtpa (ID freebsdnewbie@freenet.de) (Exim 4.89 #1) id 1dlHjX-0003Sb-PI for freebsd-arm@freebsd.org; Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:45:23 +0200 Received: from mx0.freenet.de ([195.4.92.10]:38962) by mjail2.freenet.de with esmtpa (ID freebsdnewbie@freenet.de) (Exim 4.89 #1) id 1dlHhW-00032O-CF; Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:43:18 +0200 Received: from p5ddd527b.dip0.t-ipconnect.de ([93.221.82.123]:62807 helo=[192.168.178.45]) by mx0.freenet.de with esmtpsa (ID freebsdnewbie@freenet.de) (TLSv1.2:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:128) (port 587) (Exim 4.89 #1) id 1dlHhW-00029l-8F; Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:43:18 +0200 Subject: Re: ti_pruss-driver improvement To: Luiz Otavio O Souza Cc: "freebsd-arm@freebsd.org" References: <20170809205858.GA55587@freebsd-t420.fritz.box> From: =?UTF-8?Q?Manuel_St=c3=bchn?= Message-ID: <61a612ef-9cc6-ecb2-6e27-0b86d2770f7b@freenet.de> Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:43:17 +0200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/52.3.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Language: en-US Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Originated-At: 93.221.82.123!62807 X-BeenThere: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: "Porting FreeBSD to ARM processors."
