I know how to start/stop bhyve but not much else outside > of that. Find out if it's the guest not outputting or the console not receiving. On the host run script before starting the bhyve and connecting to its console, does this record any extra output? Is the guest /etc/ttys types set to xterm, vt100 or something else? In the guest, does /var/log/dmesg.today contain the output you expect? In /etc/syslog.conf there is a commented line for console.info that saves all console output to a log file, this will be messages after the kernel has loaded but includes a lot of what you expect during startup. Maybe one of these logs shows an odd char that the console has an issue with. I haven't done meaningful measuring, but on bhyve I see 2-digit CPU load with idle windows (2012R2) guest. I never saw that on ESXi, it's much lower there, whil FreeBSD as guest on ESXi is even lower when idle. Can somebody confirm this difference? Is there a way to spoof hypervisor vendor string (from userland)? Resp. has anyone done that to see if windows behaviuor changes? On the host or the guest? I take it you mean the guest. I did this, shut the vm down with poweroff (from the vm as root) and started it again, logged into the guest and the console.log file is blank (and syslogd is running) so I think you might be onto something here. > Maybe one of these logs shows an odd char that the console has an issue > with. Can you find an odd char that doesn't exist in other guest logs? not yet. But there are other guests with console.log enabled and they get written to as you would expect. thanks, -- J. All is good if I run "vm -f start " it works. That is: the console is attached to stdin/stdout of the vm command. I am using r334458 on STABLE-11 which was more or less the point where 11_2 branched I believe. I can't see anything in 11_2 after that point which is mlx4en or linuxkbi related. I can try doing an update tomorrow to the latest STABLE and see though. Will try and prepare a box just for testing this. The compile has the following in src.conf # All our Intel machines are post-Core2 CPUTYPE?=3Dcore2 # We are using exim and cups WITHOUT_SENDMAIL=3Dtrue WITHOUT_LPR=3Dtrue and the following in make.conf # Build ports in local WRKDIRPREFIX=3D/usr/local/port-build # Use new format packages WITH_PKGNG=3Dyes DISABLE_VULNERABILITIES=3Dyes # If we install cups it overwrites the base CUPS_OVERWRITE_BASE=3Dyes I switched the interface over to accelerated networking and rebooted, but it still came up using hn0. So I added a 'mlx4en_load=3D"YES"' to loader.conf = and rebooted - which gave me the panic. I tried many times, it panicked every t= ime. Hyper-V provides a pair of NICs to the VM: one is the Para-Virtualized NIC (hn), and the other is the hardware VF NIC, and both t= he NICs share the same MAC address, and usually almost all of the network traf= fic goes through the VF NIC so that we can take advantage of the benefits of the hardware VF NIC (i.e. lower latency and CPU utilization, and higher through= put) , but if necessary the network traffic can dynamically switch to the PV NIC, which facilitates things like live migration of the VM.=20 To enable SR-IOV in FreeBSD on Hyper-V, in 2016 we updated the PV NIC driver (i.e. the netvsc driver) a little, and we added a pci front-end driver (i.e. the pcib driver) to discover the VF device, and in Aug 2017 sephe implement= ed an automatic =E2=80=9Cbond mode=E2=80=9D, with which we don=E2=80=99t need = to manually use the lagg driver any more, and the configuration work is done automatically for the PV NIC (we don't and shouldn't directly touch the VF interface). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Tue Jun 19 15:09:56 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F0B3B102037E for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 83A6D85CB1 for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 42975102037D; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:55 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2E642102037C for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id B908585CAB for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 10164F96A for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w5JF9r7O012327 for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:53 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w5JF9raX012305 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:53 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 220453] [Hyper-V] need to update Mellanox ConnectX-3 VF driver to support Live Migration Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2018 15:09:54 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: pete@twisted.org.uk X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.26 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion of various virtualization techniques FreeBSD supports." I don't have any UFS machines I c= ould clone to test with, but will do so if we don't get anywhere with this. meanwhile, however, I did the following test - comment out the line in loader.conf and instead load the module after the machine has booted. That works fine and the device appears with no panic (though of course its not in use). So its something to do with it being loaded during boot. What version would you like me to try compiling to and tests g again ? late= st STABLE, or latest 11_2 ? --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Tue Jun 19 21:38:38 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 91DB810104AD for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2751B77349 for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id DECC010104AA; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:37 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CAAD310104A8 for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 63E1977346 for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id AE45712FCD for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w5JLca4M068271 for ; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:36 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w5JLcap1068270 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:36 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 222996] FreeBSD 11.1 on Hyper-V with PCI Express Pass Through Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2018 21:38:36 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: bin X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.1-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: decui@microsoft.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.26 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion of various virtualization techniques FreeBSD supports." Looking at the commits you referenced, the big change was for kernel malloc to return unelectable memory unless requested,= yes ? If that was causing the panic though, then would it not also affect the m= odel when loaded after booting. Which seems to work fine. By the way, when I am using this, I should only have config in rc.conf for = the mlxen0 device, and not simultaneously for hn0 if I understand this right ? Am sorry this didn't work - I hope the above trace is useful, as you can se= e I did it on a clean build of 11.2 RELEASE. I won't have time to look at anyth= ing more until after the weekend I suspect (family & kids). What I can try next week is to create a machine form one of your images, and then upgrade it to 11.2 from sources and see if that works, to eliminate any possibilities of this being affected by my ZFS environment and the fact I l= oad those modules at boot too. Thanks for your attention to this so far - I rea= lly would like to get it working, but I also need ZFS. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Fri Jun 22 19:11:54 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 512981024BA2 for ; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D87747D00C for ; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 9C19C1024BA1; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:53 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8823D1024BA0 for ; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 1D01F7D007 for ; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 5007DF80B for ; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:52 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w5MJBq5j014976 for ; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:52 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w5MJBqCa014975 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:52 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229167] [Hyper-V] [Jun 19, 2018] Recently FreeBSD VM panics during boot-up, especially with Mellanox VF configured Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2018 19:11:52 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: regression X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: pete@twisted.org.uk X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.26 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion of various virtualization techniques FreeBSD supports." This also panics if you load the module on boot and accelerated networking = is enabled. I do have the tuning parameter "CPUTYPE?=3Dcore2" in src.conf - is there the remotest possibility that this is a compiler bug which only manifests when compiling for that architecture, and if I did vanilla build it would work O= K ? I don't really have the time to actually do another build now unfortunately, and I suspect I am just catching at straws here. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Sat Jun 23 00:18:22 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6B6721005446 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F256F8A33D for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id ADAED1005445; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:21 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9AB531005444 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 1E1018A33B for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 2E4B112268 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w5N0IJ9Z068878 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w5N0IJjB068867 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229167] [Hyper-V] [Jun 19, 2018] Recently FreeBSD VM panics during boot-up, especially with Mellanox VF configured Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:18:20 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: regression X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: decui@microsoft.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.26 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion of various virtualization techniques FreeBSD supports." At least it's supposed to work this way, but obviously we didn't have enough resources to fully test it. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Sat Jun 23 00:25:33 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7171910056D3 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:33 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0BDE48A678 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:33 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id BCA7C10056D1; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:32 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A7DEE10056D0 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 39A378A677 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 70A94123C4 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w5N0PVZN086187 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:31 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w5N0PVsj086177 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:31 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229167] [Hyper-V] [Jun 19, 2018] Recently FreeBSD VM panics during boot-up, especially with Mellanox VF configured Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2018 00:25:31 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: regression X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: decui@microsoft.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.26 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion of various virtualization techniques FreeBSD supports." It turns out the bisection in unreliable, but I do suspect something outside of the Hyper-V drivers cause the panic, probably in the mlx driver, or the generic memory management code. @pete, thanks very much for your help! It turns out both 11.2 and the HEAD = are broken, but in my environment somehow I can't always reproduce it. Obvious when I thought about it - nice piece of design by the way. Is there anything else I can do to help debug this ? Obviously it's not goi= ng to be fixed for 11.2, but its a bit worrying if its something in the generic memory management code! I could give you access to one of my images which s= hows the problem... --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Sat Jun 23 15:12:14 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AABC1102470C for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4412786277 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 07D9F102470A; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:14 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: virtualization@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EA91C1024709 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:13 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 8A3BA86274 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:13 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BD97619EEA for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:12 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w5NFCCev001298 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:12 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w5NFCCSM001295 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:12 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229167] [Hyper-V] [Jun 19, 2018] Recently FreeBSD VM panics during boot-up, especially with Mellanox VF configured Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2018 15:12:12 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: regression X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: decui@microsoft.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.26 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion of various virtualization techniques FreeBSD supports."
