Simplest is to (everything as root) just stop the jail via ezjail-admin stop JAILNAME then edit the file /usr/local/etc/ezjail/JAILNAME and change the line with your original IP address: jail_JAILNAME_ip="123.45.78.90" or jail_JAILNAME_ip="lo1|127.0.23.42" and then run the jail again with ezjail-admin start JAILNAME Best erdgeist From owner-freebsd-jail@freebsd.org Thu Apr 30 17:37:37 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-jail@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9C95C2C3C88 for ; Thu, 30 Apr 2020 17:37:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wayne@post.wayne47.com) Received: from post.wayne47.com (post.wayne47.com [198.11.56.11]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "post.wayne47.com", Issuer "post.wayne47.com" (not verified)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 49CjJH5tqrz3Ld3 for ; Thu, 30 Apr 2020 17:37:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wayne@post.wayne47.com) Received: from post.wayne47.com (post.wayne47.com [198.11.56.11]) by post.wayne47.com (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTPS id 03UHbXUS008009 (version=TLSv1.2 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 bits=256 verify=NO) for ; Thu, 30 Apr 2020 13:37:34 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from wayne@post.wayne47.com) Received: (from wayne@localhost) by post.wayne47.com (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 03UHbW9e008008 for freebsd-jail@freebsd.org; Thu, 30 Apr 2020 13:37:32 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from wayne) Date: Thu, 30 Apr 2020 13:37:32 -0400 From: Mike Wayne To: freebsd-jail@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Ezjail Message-ID: <20200430173732.GB42597@post.wayne47.com> Mail-Followup-To: freebsd-jail@freebsd.org References: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.10.1 (2018-07-13) X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 49CjJH5tqrz3Ld3 X-Spamd-Bar: - Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=none; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of wayne@post.wayne47.com designates 198.11.56.11 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=wayne@post.wayne47.com X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-1.79 / 15.00]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-0.97)[-0.974,0]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+ip4:198.11.56.11]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; PREVIOUSLY_DELIVERED(0.00)[freebsd-jail@freebsd.org]; TO_DN_NONE(0.00)[]; RCPT_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-0.90)[-0.903,0]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[wayne47.com]; IP_SCORE(-0.01)[country: US(-0.05)]; RCVD_IN_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[11.56.11.198.list.dnswl.org : 127.0.5.0]; RCVD_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; FORGED_SENDER(0.30)[FreeBSD_jail@wayne47.com,wayne@post.wayne47.com]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; ASN(0.00)[asn:2015, ipnet:198.11.56.0/24, country:US]; FROM_NEQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[FreeBSD_jail@wayne47.com,wayne@post.wayne47.com]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; ONCE_RECEIVED(0.10)[] X-BeenThere: freebsd-jail@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion about FreeBSD jail\(8\)" List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 30 Apr 2020 17:37:37 -0000 On Thu, Apr 30, 2020 at 03:30:59PM +0000, Brandon helsley wrote: > I installed and updated base jail with ezjail and then like the > example in the handbook, created dnsjail with it's ip. I'm glad you got an answer to this question but ezjail has a lot of issues that do not look like they are going to be resolved anytime soon. In particular, upgrading a binary installed jail created with ezjail is not supported. Which means that once a jail is installed with ezjail on a system without source code, it will likely NEVER be updated. I developed an entire system to deal with solving that specific problem but it's clunky, messy and very fragile. While I was seeking advice on some of the nuances involved, I exchanged email with several very helpful people. As a result, my suggestion is to use qjail instead of ezjail. It DOES support updates on hosts & jails that are binary only. The documentation is well above average and, if you run into complications, you can get answers. The one thing that I can not get working with qjail that ezjail supports (with some hacks) is quotas. If you can live without quotas and need UFS, qjail is the best solution. If you are using ZFS (which I cannot), you might consider iocage instead. Because it requires ZFS, it's a non-starter for me but people whose opinion I respect speak highly of it.
