Good question. It appears that some older devices do. I don't have any ot= her devices nor working devices. Just from searching on the web I found that an MiFi7730, from here: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/143342/unable-to-properly-keep-usb-ethernet= -interface-attached-on-verizon-jetpack-7730l/2 I also found the following on the OpenBSD listserv: http://openbsd-archive.7691.n7.nabble.com/patch-for-Inseego-Novatel-MiFi-88= 00L-as-urndis0-td361099.html Can you also elaborate on: - "tethering on newer devices", as to whether that means you have an ol= der device that works, or worked in the past? Just based on reports from the web. I only have the MiFi 8800/8000 - the differences are the frequencies for the cell modem tied to the carrier. - "enabling tethering is not get picked up", whaty does this specifical= ly mean with regard to steps to reproduce, commands, outputs, errors, system configuration to do so, etc (please provide as attachments) 1) Plug in the device via USB. 2) It should be picked up as an rndis device and assigned to ue0 (assuming = no other ue devices). I just got some old but still nice Creative Sound Blaster 24-bit card that works over USB. I noticed kernel crashes when card is disconnected and then on kldunload snd_uaudio. That happens when I unplug whole USB HUB (with Ethernet and Sound on it) from my laptop when moving away from my desk to work over wireless. I work on 12.1-RELEASE amd64, Xorg + Enlightenment + PulseAudio. That PulseAudio stuff (in addition to application that may actually use the pcm) usually blocks the audio device and prevents it from kldunload. Also when I do kldunload snd_uaudio the device is re-attached momentarily after unload.. which is not quite what I want. It would be really nice to safely remove the device (even if forced remove). It would be really nice to avoid kernel panic. Maybe some information to PulseAudio that device is gone would be nice too, because it still thinks that audio device is there even if the cable was disconnected. These are simple things that may impact also many cards on USB configuration.. but also maybe fixed during such implementation :-) Best regards :-) Tomek -- CeDeROM, SQ7MHZ, http://www.tomek.cedro.info From owner-freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Tue Mar 31 12:55:01 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A5FCA2A4B7D for ; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 12:55:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48s8S35fLzz3x47 for ; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 12:54:59 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 806DC2A4B68; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 12:54:52 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: usb@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5F4BC2A4B67 for ; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 12:54:52 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@freebsd.org) Received: from mail.turbocat.net (turbocat.net [88.99.82.50]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48s8Rs3NMbz3x1H for ; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 12:54:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@freebsd.org) Received: from hps2020.home.selasky.org (unknown [62.141.129.235]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.turbocat.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 9B6FD260281; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 14:45:13 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: svn commit: r359446 - head/sys/dev/sound/usb To: Alexander Leidinger Cc: usb@freebsd.org References: <20200331143524.Horde.ysDNb7YHa282XO7TaHD7KeV@webmail.leidinger.net> From: Hans Petter Selasky Message-ID: <86ef6d1a-46ae-ab23-5ff3-ec594945d57b@freebsd.org> Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2020 14:44:12 +0200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/68.4.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <20200331143524.Horde.ysDNb7YHa282XO7TaHD7KeV@webmail.leidinger.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Language: en-US Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 48s8Rs3NMbz3x1H X-Spamd-Bar: - Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; none X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-1.65 / 15.00]; local_wl_from(0.00)[freebsd.org]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-0.91)[-0.910,0]; ASN(0.00)[asn:24940, ipnet:88.99.0.0/16, country:DE]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-0.74)[-0.742,0] X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2020 12:55:02 -0000 On 2020-03-31 14:35, Alexander Leidinger via freebsd-usb wrote: > Quoting Hans Petter Selasky (from Mon, 30 Mar > 2020 16:50:33 +0000 (UTC)): > >> Author: hselasky >> Date: Mon Mar 30 16:50:32 2020 >> New Revision: 359446 >> URL: https://svnweb.freebsd.org/changeset/base/359446 >> >> Log: >>   Add support for multiple playback and recording devices per physical >> USB audio >>   device. Hi, PulseAudio could need some OSS patches, like to close the DSP and MIXER fd's when an error code is returned. Do we have a contact person here? This is not really a kernel problem. We can't just go on and create pcm99, 100, 101 and so on, just because the apps don't close there FD's! Personally I try to use ALSA and JACK and virtual_oss or just native OSS. --HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Tue Mar 31 13:44:54 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 523852A6634 for ; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 13:44:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from Alexander@leidinger.net) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (mailman.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:13]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48s9YY1QjRz4H2l for ; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 13:44:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from Alexander@leidinger.net) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 957452A6631; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 13:44:43 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: usb@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8043E2A662F for ; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 13:44:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from Alexander@leidinger.net) Received: from mailgate.Leidinger.net (bastille.leidinger.net [89.238.82.207]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48s9YQ4rHwz4H1B; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 13:44:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from Alexander@leidinger.net) Received: from outgoing.leidinger.net (p5B165AF1.dip0.t-ipconnect.de [91.22.90.241]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature ECDSA (P-256) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mailgate.Leidinger.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id EE287845B; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 15:44:33 +0200 (CEST) Received: from webmail.leidinger.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature ECDSA (P-256) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by outgoing.leidinger.net (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 68DCA123AF; Tue, 31 Mar 2020 15:44:01 +0200 (CEST) Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2020 15:44:01 +0200 Message-ID: <20200331154401.Horde.E6P_IwY42jWjdFCKNZDt1D7@webmail.leidinger.net> From: Alexander Leidinger To: Hans Petter Selasky Cc: usb@freebsd.org Subject: Re: svn commit: r359446 - head/sys/dev/sound/usb References: <20200331143524.Horde.ysDNb7YHa282XO7TaHD7KeV@webmail.leidinger.net> <86ef6d1a-46ae-ab23-5ff3-ec594945d57b@freebsd.org> In-Reply-To: <86ef6d1a-46ae-ab23-5ff3-ec594945d57b@freebsd.org> Accept-Language: de,en Content-Type: multipart/signed; boundary="=_pIyspiaEEvg8hblEC933jBR"; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg=pgp-sha1 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 48s9YQ4rHwz4H1B X-Spamd-Bar: ----- X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-6.00 / 15.00]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-0.999,0]; REPLY(-4.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-0.999,0] X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2020 13:44:55 -0000 This message is in MIME format and has been PGP signed. --=_pIyspiaEEvg8hblEC933jBR Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed; DelSp=Yes Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Quoting Hans Petter Selasky (from Tue, 31 Mar=20=20 2020=2014:44:12 +0200): > On 2020-03-31 14:35, Alexander Leidinger via freebsd-usb wrote: >> Quoting Hans Petter Selasky (from Mon, 30=20=20 >>=20Mar 2020 16:50:33 +0000 (UTC)): >> >>> Author: hselasky >>> Date: Mon Mar 30 16:50:32 2020 >>> New Revision: 359446 >>> URL: https://svnweb.freebsd.org/changeset/base/359446 >>> >>> Log: >>> =C2=A0 Add support for multiple playback and recording devices per=20= =20 >>>=20physical USB audio >>> =C2=A0 device.
