Thank you, eugene, adding ' kern.vty=3D"sc" ' to /boot/loader.conf seems to=
 have
fixed the problem for me, too, at least as far as getting into single-user
mode.

The next step for me is to do a fresh install of 12.2-RELEASE and come up
multi-user.
