When installing, switch to another console and run bsdinstall from there. When installed, set "debug.acpi.disabled=3D1" in /boot/loader.conf as said earlier. I used FreeBSD 11.2 on the said Dell Inspiron 7352 by suppressing the error message back in 2018-2019. I no longer have the Inspiron, and my two HP Spectre x360s (along with one = work ThinkPads with an unlocked BIOS, other one is locked) don't suffer from the same issue with FreeBSD. Only a few ACPI errors on boot on the two Spectres, and we obviously know how well ThinkPads work with FBSD (though I don't wan= t a ThinkPad for myself, and hence why I got HP hardware). About Dell specifically, I believe most newer (or older) Dell hardware shouldn't have these "errors", but I can't confirm since I don't have newer Dell hardware with me. I haven't used Dell hardware newer than Intel Broadw= ell, sorry. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Wed Apr 28 01:38:22 2021 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-acpi@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EAA0D628281 for ; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4FVLqy679Tz3MZm for ; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id D2525628280; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: acpi@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D21886281CF for ; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4FVLqy5X8fz3MK3 for ; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id AF64724D72 for ; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 13S1cMMj091309 for ; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 13S1cMFW091308 for acpi@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: acpi@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 202069] FreeBSD 11-CURRENT r285794 on Dell Inspiron 13 7352: ACPI Error: [\_SB_.PCI0.LPCB.H_EC.ECRD] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20150619/psargs-391) Date: Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:22 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: srwallace22@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: acpi@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.34 Precedence: list List-Id: ACPI and power management development List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 28 Apr 2021 01:38:23 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D202069 --- Comment #16 from Exhaling --- I stand ready to do this immediately as it seems straight forward; problem = is I have no experience with FreeBSD leaving me somewhat clueless. I knowthe set command works for env (if not mistaking but it's not necessarily persistent). As I understand /boot/defaults/load.conf or load.= rc is required for persistence. One other noteworthy point is the ACPI on/off toggle is missing among the b= oot options. It's optional anyways. Regarding the errors: The firmware is looking for a method called ALIB on t= he system bus (_SB). It is hard to find information about what this method doe= s. Not sure if it is documented somewhere (surely not in the acpi specificatio= n). A quick google search showed this github project, which sheds some light (n= ot much). https://github.com/sibradzic/stapmlifier Either way, I don't think FreeBSD can do anything about it (it's a firmware issue). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
