While it has just one built-in ethernet port, there is PCIe 4x slot available. I tested the board itself, it works with FreeBSD out-of-the-box, but I did not test it with PCIe network card. 2 GB version is available, 4 GB currently out of stock, but should be in stock late August. Another alternative is Quartz64 from the same vendor, with both 4 GB and 8 GB version available as of now, unfortunately, with different SoC, it is not yet supported, but development is ongoing according to post on freebsd-arm mailing list. If you are interested in this platform, you can ask there as well, it is possible to get more responses... A bit more info would be usefull - price desired, peripherals wanted, usage scenario etc. Two board mentioned are both under US$ 100, but should be usable for many tasks. If you find a candidate SBC , again , it is very likely that you may find useful information about that SBCs , and even videos if you search YouTube for such videos . Some of these SBC are very cheap , you may use multiple such SBCs. If you search YouTube videos for "computer cluster " , you may find combined , working systems of such SBCs . I am not an expert of these systems , but I am watching such videos . It is also possible to search Google about your preferred SBCs for more detailed information if you can not find them in videos . Yeah, I'm looking for an APU4 alternative since the processor isn't fast enough to firewall my fiber connection. Most/all of the arm boards are way to slow for my uses. If you're fine at <200Mbps, then they'll be fine. The A72 or newer cores are MUCH better at performance than the older arm64 cores.. Also, you're correct that you don't want to use USB. I've worked to make some drivers better, but I've had issues, either stability or performance which makes even USB 3.0 adapters not a great option. Add in PCIe cards are a good option, and quite cheap to add, the harder part is that getting case for some of the cheaper SBCs that take a PCIe card can be difficult. The hardest part is finding something that isn't expensive, but still performant. I ended up giving up and looking at systems w/ fans, as though the location is somewhat dusty, I don't think it'll be bad enough to cause issues... There's always building yourself your own filter box if it's truly that bad.. -- John-Mark Gurney Voice: +1 415 225 5579 "All that I will do, has been done, All that I have, has not." I'm using «cheap» Chinese boxes from AliExpress. Intel based, they are varied from low-end Atoms up to i7-7xxxU (and more), from 2 up to 6 Ethernet ports (some have i210, some Realteks), serial consoles (inlucing BIOS via serial console), M.2 slots, etc. There are plenty of configurations to select from. Smallest ones (which has size about 11x11x3cm) can be overheated by high load, but bigger ones (in size of medium-sized book) are rock-solid without additional cooling. But my experience is before-COVID, maybe now, after electronic components shortage, they are not available anymore, need to check. -- // Lev Serebryakov
