Silly bytes per period referenced transfer notation (B/sec, B/day, B/mon) of legacy small webhosters, and phone extortion billing models, that all calculate and use average bitrate with upstream already anyway... orthagonal and falling off. Many areas in FreeBSD could be checked for representation... prefixes for disk space using decimal G instead of binary Gi, places under a given context (netrates or diskspace) but displaying mixed representations across their respective utilities in base, etc. Rockets crash due to perpetuating use of nonstandard / mix legacy. Representations could look towards some newer formal standardization than pre-2000's adhoc. Linux seems to making some RAM/disk/netrates updates there with "bi" prefixes now appearing in various places, do not know if they have a standards conformance / base policy doc on that. https://www.iso.org/standard/31898.html IEC 80000-13:2008 https://www.electropedia.org/iev/iev.nsf/display?openform&ievref=112-01-27 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_prefix [1] Pre :2008, WDC and STX lawsuits forced more disclosure and market consistency, still annoying to convert box/nameplate/sector decimal <--> logical binary. However, This causes some of the math-related tests to fail as they rep= ort zero instead of a tiny number. This fixes at least /usr/tests/lib/msun/ldexp_test and possibly others. Additionally, setting this flag prevents printf() from printing subnorm= al numbers in decimal form. The point of interest is that local_unbound sends information about the local network using private IPv4 address space out to the internet. That's= a (small, but unnecessary) security risk that should be fixed, and it clearly violates RFC 6761. 2. That does _not_ free the default configuration shipped (or created by a script) to comply to RFC 6761 & the strict interpretation of RFC 2119 as I outlined in my comment #5: for the application/domain of default knobs, a SHOULD/SHOULD_NOT has to be treated as if it's a MUST/MUST_NOT. Very, very seldom there can be a /resonable/ exception to this general rule. Please either tell the reasons or even better, give up your resistance & simply ch= ange that knob as requested. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-standards@freebsd.org Thu Mar 18 19:52:56 2021 Return-Path: <owner-freebsd-standards@freebsd.org> Delivered-To: freebsd-standards@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 532675AAC8B for <freebsd-standards@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org>; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4F1d3r1kB6z4gQ5 for <freebsd-standards@freebsd.org>; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 3AEBC5AAC27; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: standards@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3AA875AAC24 for <standards@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org>; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4F1d3r13yqz4gBj for <standards@FreeBSD.org>; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 17EC227AAE for <standards@FreeBSD.org>; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 12IJquGd030087 for <standards@FreeBSD.org>; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 12IJquZm030086 for standards@FreeBSD.org; Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: standards@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 248102] [local_unbound] default config file violates RFC Date: Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:55 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: standards X-Bugzilla-Version: Unspecified X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: sblachmann@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: standards@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: <bug-248102-99-7j4oHxWjeJ@https.bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/> In-Reply-To: <bug-248102-99@https.bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/> References: <bug-248102-99@https.bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-standards@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.34 Precedence: list List-Id: Standards compliance <freebsd-standards.freebsd.org> List-Unsubscribe: <https://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/options/freebsd-standards>, <mailto:freebsd-standards-request@freebsd.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-standards/> List-Post: <mailto:freebsd-standards@freebsd.org> List-Help: <mailto:freebsd-standards-request@freebsd.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <https://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-standards>, <mailto:freebsd-standards-request@freebsd.org?subject=subscribe> X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 18 Mar 2021 19:52:56 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D248102 Stefan B. <sblachmann@gmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |sblachmann@gmail.com --- Comment #13 from Stefan B. <sblachmann@gmail.com> --- The option exposes the internal LAN addresses which are hooked to the particular computer and use it as DNS cache. For good reasons this option is set default-off in upstream. Enabling this option ensures that the external DNS server operators get all= the interesting metadata about the unsuspecting FreeBSD users and their internal network, its computers and their users' [company, family, ...] usage patter= ns. Please explain the reasons why it is deemed necessary that FreeBSD continues sending the unsuspecting users' sensitive metadata to external entities.
