I was running TCP BBR on Hyper-V since January 20= 20 without seeing any problems. Around the mid of march 2021 there must be a commit that hit the tree, which leads to the panic. I had tried to bisect t= he problem, but compiling an older version of -CURRENT on a recent one leads to obscure clang error messages. I tried a fresh build from todays sources without loading any additional TCP stack at boot time and the panic is still present for both TCP BBR and TCP RACK. Triggered by a simple 'kldload $module'. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Thu Jul 8 10:53:19 2021 X-Original-To: virtualization@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6908E11F3372 for ; Thu, 8 Jul 2021 10:53:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4GLCnW2SyWz4db1 for ; Thu, 8 Jul 2021 10:53:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 3EB831F93B for ; Thu, 8 Jul 2021 10:53:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 168ArJen085121 for ; Thu, 8 Jul 2021 10:53:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 168ArJeZ085120 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Thu, 8 Jul 2021 10:53:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 256934] Panic in ena driver on a t3.large ec2 instance after upgrading to 13.0 Date: Thu, 08 Jul 2021 10:53:19 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 13.0-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: panic, regression X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: ar@semihalf.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Discussion List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-virtualization List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D256934 Artur Rojek changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |ar@semihalf.com --- Comment #2 from Artur Rojek --- (In reply to Alex Dupre from comment #0) Hi Alex, I researched this issue and there are no significant changes between 12.2 a= nd 13.0 with regards to your backtrace. I don't see any connection to the ena driver either, as `ena_keep_alive_wd+0x24` is a simple call of `counter_u64_zero`. The EC2 T3 instance type you are using is a burstable performance instance, meaning that (depending on your configuration) you can spend CPU resources above the baseline for periods of time, however eventua= lly the instance forcibly comes down to baseline CPU utilization. Perhaps you f= aced this bottleneck just when your machine required more CPU "oomph"? Have you been able to reproduce this issue on 13.0 since, or is this a one = time occurrence? One thing I can suggest at the moment is to try to adjust `debug.lock.delay_max`, which is configurable since 13.0. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Fri Jul 9 12:50:51 2021 X-Original-To: virtualization@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5B1C35D4C09 for ; By default, NVMe data transfer operations use a scatter-gather list in which all entries point to a fixed size memory region. For example, if the Memory Page Size is 4KiB, a 2MiB IO requires 512 entries. Lists themselves are also fixed size (default is 512 entries). Because the list size is fixed, the last entry is special. If the IO requires more than 512 entries, the last entry in the list contains the address of the next list of entries. But if the IO requires exactly 512 entries, the last entry points to data. The NVMe emulation missed this logic and unconditionally treated the last entry as a pointer to the next list. Fix is to check if the remaining data is greater than the page size before using the last entry as a pointer to the next list. By default, NVMe data transfer operations use a scatter-gather list in which all entries point to a fixed size memory region.
