The primary hint about what code execution context lead to the original instance of trap type 12 above is basically: instruction pointer =3D 0x20:0xffffffff80bf3727 amdgpu does not leave in place a clean context for debugging kernel crashes. Trying to keep the video context operational for a kernel that has crashed, while not messing up the analysis context for the original problem is problematical. My guess would be that normal analysis of such tries to have the problem occur in a virtual machine sort of context where another (outer) context is available that is independent and can look at the details from outside the failing context. But even that would require the failing context in the VM to stop before amdgpu or the like messed up the evidence in the VM. (Not that I've ever done that type of evidence gathering.) --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. Regardless of the order in which I load kernel modules by hand in single-user mode, I can't ever duplicate the crash. 2. The crash never happens if amdgpu.ko is not loaded. 3. Emmanuel Vadot categorically states that the many, many references to drm_modeset_is_locked failures in the crash summaries are noise and don't indicate drm failures and are caused by virtual terminal switching. But I still get crashes even when there are no virtual terminal switches (because= I didn't start X windows and I didn't type ALT-Fn). 4. The crash always happens after amdgpu.ko is loaded, and (in terms of tim= e of occurrence) at about the time vboxnetflt.ko or acpi_wmi.ko is loaded. The seeming zfs crash can happen even when zfs.ko is loaded before amdgpu.ko, a= nd I theorize that it happens when my large (1TB) USB ZFS-formatted drive comes = on line and gets tasted (after amdgpu.ko is loaded). 5. From the manpage I would have expected the opposite: --- When set to noauto, a dataset can only be mounted and unmounted explicitly. The dataset is not mounted automatically when the dataset is created or imported, nor is it mounted by the zfs mount -a command or unmounted by the zfs unmount -a command. --- After export/import these filesystems systems stay unmounted as expected, but they are still mounted again on the next "zfs mount -a". Is this a bug in the manpage, a bug in zfs, or am I misunderstanding how this is supposed to work? cu Gerrit From nobody Thu Apr 27 13:54:49 2023 X-Original-To: freebsd-fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Q6cgH52Djz47C5H for ; Thu, 27 Apr 2023 13:54:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gerrit.kuehn@aei.mpg.de) Received: from umail2.aei.mpg.de (umail2.aei.mpg.de [194.94.224.8]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Q6cgH0tG9z4327 for ; Thu, 27 Apr 2023 13:54:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gerrit.kuehn@aei.mpg.de) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of gerrit.kuehn@aei.mpg.de designates 194.94.224.8 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=gerrit.kuehn@aei.mpg.de; dmarc=none Received: from arc.aei.uni-hannover.de (ahgate1.aei.uni-hannover.de [130.75.117.49]) by umail2.aei.mpg.de (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 992991F23968 for ; Thu, 27 Apr 2023 15:54:49 +0200 (CEST) Date: Thu, 27 Apr 2023 15:54:49 +0200 From: Gerrit =?UTF-8?B?S8O8aG4=?= To: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Subject: Re: canmount=noauto not behaving as expected Message-ID: <20230427155449.2b94bdb3@arc.aei.uni-hannover.de> In-Reply-To: <20230427152159.508f097c@arc.aei.uni-hannover.de> References: <20230427152159.508f097c@arc.aei.uni-hannover.de> Organization: MPG X-Mailer: Claws Mail 3.19.0 (GTK+ 2.24.33; amd64-portbld-freebsd13.0) List-Id: Filesystems List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-fs List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-2.94 / 15.00]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-0.99)[-0.993]; R_MIXED_CHARSET(0.56)[subject]; RCVD_IN_DNSWL_MED(-0.20)[194.94.224.8:from]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+ip4:194.94.224.8]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; ASN(0.00)[asn:680, ipnet:194.94.0.0/15, country:DE]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; MLMMJ_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-fs@freebsd.org]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[mpg.de]; RCPT_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; HAS_ORG_HEADER(0.00)[]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; TO_DN_NONE(0.00)[]; PREVIOUSLY_DELIVERED(0.00)[freebsd-fs@freebsd.org]; RWL_MAILSPIKE_POSSIBLE(0.00)[194.94.224.8:from] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4Q6cgH0tG9z4327 X-Spamd-Bar: -- X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N Am Thu, 27 Apr 2023 15:21:59 +0200 schrieb Gerrit K=C3=BChn : > After export/import these filesystems systems stay unmounted as expected, > but they are still mounted again on the next "zfs mount -a". > Is this a bug in the manpage, a bug in zfs, or am I misunderstanding how > this is supposed to work? I think I found at least part of my misconception: the canmount property is not inherited. After a closer inspection, I get only nested filesystems mounted with "zfs mount -a", not the one where I actually set canmount=3Dnoauto. That's a bit of a pity, as I would like to set/inherit the property recursively on a whole subtree, but apparently that's not possible using a single command. However, I still fon't get any of the nested filesystems mounted on "zpool import", they all stay unmounted there. So canmount is (quite unexpectedly to me) treated differently for "zpool import" and "zfs mount -a". cu Gerrit From nobody Fri Apr 28 01:30:26 2023 X-Original-To: fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Q6w5v12HZz47lBB for ; Fri, 28 Apr 2023 01:30:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Q6w5t5y18z3tW2 for ; Fri, 28 Apr 2023 01:30:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1682645426; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=a4jN3Sby9On31Ogn3MLKTobrI7ezAr0TILOrHek1hVs=; b=p8Jq+gtMxQKUtLixh66ytRXzC4XGzd4ZSFXANz6ig9ZttOCfLFwVuhZ5uToBQCjpn0mru5 YS72zu2pa5vV8msKw+NHgEm591T5TdLuQRdRzFTHrVDejuPEl2f8b6dcdS5kSZhx7WKz7i tOBuFcfGbvIKiw3ZXMebf2QQ70xGbxeVuI4BQEIfNAuIYYDqYSVHuU30AtqntPx7ianTgM ayhqhgxDSbMuMcFHcAtj6rY2P72iVSBi3Bfz8ixhWKwLyD7k5+23j89+v11vBwIvKbkNhm OkaGLHnzC8pEvvl6y/fELKs3fGbU5LmEqDR+0cjFfqKGEXIbU3xVk+sNEjAHvg== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1682645426; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=eeGEFpfKfn+zmETH1E3r4q0AYMsUkZR9lepbuyt9hq1wR3Xc5E868lfL1R3QmtiGcu6u8w jsnE/+mKpTigVXTImI1Uxv/KG4Y+uMMKvcj3AFG0SUq0umHUfaBtzbIsroIdvswG7DJlUI p7FOU4Oj+/k6DUF1flfC2ca0f84hQtZFbYX7DdtqBeArzYAvi1I3rAee6oHWMmgzaPAm74 /lYjZpNHcMB85ccJ/r2ACLgW9Ln58G4l7yJLMTJQGF5Vbofr4flFoz6+LlewAiDwIZtJw3 W4ydAYxBvQWmYDBTHU1VLIfN4sKgr5RZe389fubvAtfKUs3ffXiXZp+bkEy4WQ== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Q6w5t4pDYzgmB for ; Fri, 28 Apr 2023 01:30:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 33S1UQOY096335 for ; Fri, 28 Apr 2023 01:30:26 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from bugzilla@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 33S1UQZc096334 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Fri, 28 Apr 2023 01:30:26 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: bugzilla set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 270988] vfs: Fix 'emptydir' mount option and vfs_emptydir() Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2023 01:30:26 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: commit-hook@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: fs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Filesystems List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-fs List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D270988 --- Comment #1 from commit-hook@FreeBSD.org --- A commit in branch main references this bug: URL: https://cgit.FreeBSD.org/src/commit/?id=3D6450e7bbad0c68176f28b51773a3af5d6= 022c7dd commit 6450e7bbad0c68176f28b51773a3af5d6022c7dd Author: Olivier Certner AuthorDate: 2023-04-22 16:07:07 +0000 Commit: Konstantin Belousov CommitDate: 2023-04-28 01:27:54 +0000 vfs: Fix "emptydir" mount option Fix vfs_emptydir(). It would consider directories containing directories with name of the form 'X.' (X being any authorized byte) as empty. Also, it would cause VOP_READDIR() to return an error on directories containing enough whiteouts. While here, use a more decently sized buffer as done elsewhere. Remove ad-hoc iteration on the directory's content and instead use the newly exported vn_dir_next_dirent() function (this is what fixes the second problem mentioned above). So canmount is (quite > unexpectedly to me) treated differently for "zpool import" and "zfs > mount -a". More precisely: --- root@crest:/etc # zfs get canmount data/syncoid/pt-vault NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault canmount on default root@crest:/etc # zfs get canmount data/syncoid/pt-vault/home NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault/home canmount noauto local root@crest:/etc # zfs get canmount data/syncoid/pt-vault/home/archives NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault/home/archives canmount on default --- So canmount=3Dnoauto is just set for one filesystem "in the middle", not for the one above, nor for the one below. --- root@crest:/etc # zfs mount -a root@crest:/etc # zfs get mounted data/syncoid/pt-vault NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault mounted yes - root@crest:/etc # zfs get mounted data/syncoid/pt-vault/home NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault/home mounted no - root@crest:/etc # zfs get mounted data/syncoid/pt-vault/home/archives NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault/home/archives mounted yes - --- After a "zfs mount -a" only the filesystem that is explicitely set to "noauto" will be left out, the ones below will still mount. I didn't really expect this, but so be it. However, what I find really strange now is that "zpool import" behaves differently: --- root@crest:/etc # zpool export data root@crest:/etc # zpool import data root@crest:/etc # zfs get mounted data/syncoid/pt-vault/home/archives NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault/home/archives mounted no - root@crest:/etc # zfs get mounted data/syncoid/pt-vault/home NAME PROPERTY VALUE SOURCE data/syncoid/pt-vault/home mounted no - --- Importing appears to stop right at the level where canmount=3Dnoauto is set and does not consider the filesystems below. The zfsprops manpage doesn't comment on this situation explicitely, but from this I would have expected that import and mount are treated the same way: --- When set to noauto, a dataset can only be mounted and unmounted explicitly. The dataset is not mounted automatically when the dataset is created or imported, nor is it mounted by the zfs mount -a command or unmounted by the zfs unmount -a command. --- Maybe the manpage could be improved here to mention this? The manpage for zpool-import also doesn't mention which filesystems are mounted automatically and which ones aren't (it just features the -N flag that prevents any filesystems from being mounted). cu Gerrit From nobody Fri Apr 28 22:35:44 2023 X-Original-To: fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Q7S9s0HFcz4846C for ; Or possibly in the list of available devices, though that may be tougher.... We underuse the introspection commands in the boot loade= r. It might also be better, if there's good technical reasons these suggestions won't work (and there may well be) to have a zfs info command that would re= port extra info like this to help in debugging. I've done this on a throw-a-way basis for the kboot stuff I've been working on, but it might make sense to regularize it. re kenv: all of it (it's quite long) or just the mounting (it already prints the env var that sets root). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Sat Apr 29 15:52:18 2023 X-Original-To: fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Q7v9t2mS4z47vG5 for ; Sat, 29 Apr 2023 15:52:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Q7v9t1mT6z4QHr for ; Sat, 29 Apr 2023 15:52:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1682783538; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=R+dw0z3C3W/M5INvfuLUBtPcVmECiVyDWvjxtI5GGT0=; b=p7VmhAbtPI+zgqAMNDW8Gd+XabYqYU/Bn3mxuVy19xJjCfH9uwAsak6+OCncsfCK4qMUPB 8FPCUNmKkltKbCTjfvlUqBrQYuHWAKDGwbJW06zjijoVGidFMC1Cl5u3+v1xCIcYk6tUiq CQTFd8RwpkvRbhKumaMRBGtF4LUXK8T/gPoNHpvs5Wtkp1NsWrVE2HxWLkzjzjLpiczRws 8kpKZBXsgThziZ2X9BxTajHFDAIZ3zx/E1huBOgzvlnZafci6cdNxNUZeFWuU83QMw79MC Eknv9tBKVb6OJdr+RYeCMGCsL2SdJWTlzvvydHVuQVn4qYD+I88u2y51dc5/wQ== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1682783538; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=HEDtCNoq9G9gTINX5KGIA1q1PiPUoY8sMXvHbJzfJWaFqGNfrqInzHFphYUKu3mMCQ30fo sDpt0uodzFnLn5ahaO/Qr+QZUNtRzMdNsZLmOucm5cSGrp/XaPqjmxbBjT/6iAxzK93ijr s9noagz3fGqpvC9557yr2xx4229+dtyuWB/vMGmWnByUxnA9DFd88gVdNd1xrIAZ4t1KSN obZxzk6liLXOELp4ONiIlwFhAu2h4IePFuqYOYT+RES+ZnaEmz2lRxFuNaniHVIzeFZfZ+ tb1/ZyaR8DA1Tl139sF1/NKu71bqAayc7KxnZFaNWPs1m7H4lITQ4acH8XkrKA== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Q7v9t0rgGznlb for ; Sat, 29 Apr 2023 15:52:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 33TFqIxO069025 for ; Sat, 29 Apr 2023 15:52:18 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 33TFqIoP069024 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 29 Apr 2023 15:52:18 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 271105] ext2fs can not mount disks with 4K native sector size Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2023 15:52:18 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 13.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: fsu@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: fs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Filesystems List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-fs List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D271105 --- Comment #10 from Fedor Uporov --- Ok, it is what I expected.
