It is sad to hear that gjournal is close to deprecation.

There was a problems with UFS+SU+J at least in the past. Also it can't use
another device for the journal, if I remember correctly.

Furthermore I have very bad experience with UFS + background fsck.

So I'm afraid to go to UFS+SU+J or put a whole system in ZFS...
