Another possible reason: DHCP packets sent from DHCP client have 1-bit flag= indicating
if client wants to receive an answer as unicast or broadcast UDP packet.
You could try hacking source to force broadcasts and see if that changes th= ings.
This NIC's driver has previous history of bad in-chip filtering packets= in transit
from the wire to the host (CPU).
Thanks a lot for the great= ideas!
Although if I follow the code right= , this is already set:

If you have= the time to take a look at my patched kernel outputs, I think the response= datagrams get to the UDP stack. What I feel is either they doesn't mak= e it to the soreceive call sometimes or the whole process gets reset for so= me reason.

Please note that a fifth RC build will be arriving very soon with one more bug fix; 13.2-RC5 is expected to be the final release candidate. Installation images are available for: o 13.2-RC4 amd64 GENERIC o 13.2-RC4 i386 GENERIC o 13.2-RC4 powerpc GENERIC o 13.2-RC4 powerpc64 GENERIC64 o 13.2-RC4 powerpc64le GENERIC64LE o 13.2-RC4 powerpcspe MPC85XXSPE o 13.2-RC4 armv6 RPI-B o 13.2-RC4 armv7 GENERICSD o 13.2-RC4 aarch64 GENERIC o 13.2-RC4 aarch64 RPI o 13.2-RC4 aarch64 PINE64 o 13.2-RC4 aarch64 PINE64-LTS o 13.2-RC4 aarch64 PINEBOOK o 13.2-RC4 aarch64 ROCK64 o 13.2-RC4 aarch64 ROCKPRO64 o 13.2-RC4 riscv64 GENERIC o 13.2-RC4 riscv64 GENERICSD Note regarding arm SD card images: For convenience for those without console access to the system, a freebsd user with a password of freebsd is available by default for ssh(1) access. Additionally, the root user password is set to root. It is strongly recommended to change the password for both users after gaining access to the system. Installer images and memory stick images are available here: https://download.freebsd.org/releases/ISO-IMAGES/13.2/ The image checksums follow at the end of this e-mail. If you notice problems you can report them through the Bugzilla PR system or on the -stable mailing list. If you would like to use Git to do a source based update of an existing system, use the "releng/13.2" branch. A summary of changes since 13.2-RC3 includes: o A fix to recalculate mitigations after reloading microcode on resume; this unbreaks suspend/resume on some laptops. o A fix to stack unwinding of kernel dumps on arm64. o A kernel panic fix in carp(4). o Fix bug resulting in misdetecting endianness on any platform when using endian.h sometimes. A list of changes since 13.1 is available in the releng/13.2 release notes: https://www.freebsd.org/releases/13.2R/relnotes/ === Virtual Machine Disk Images === VM disk images are available for the amd64, i386, and aarch64 architectures. Disk images may be downloaded from the following URL (or any of the FreeBSD download mirrors): https://download.freebsd.org/releases/VM-IMAGES/13.2-RC4/ BASIC-CI images can be found at: https://download.freebsd.org/releases/CI-IMAGES/13.2-RC4/ The partition layout is: ~ 16 kB - freebsd-boot GPT partition type (bootfs GPT label) ~ 1 GB - freebsd-swap GPT partition type (swapfs GPT label) ~ 20 GB - freebsd-ufs GPT partition type (rootfs GPT label) The disk images are available in QCOW2, VHD, VMDK, and raw disk image formats. The image download size is approximately 135 MB and 165 MB respectively (amd64/i386), decompressing to a 21 GB sparse image. Note regarding arm64/aarch64 virtual machine images: a modified QEMU EFI loader file is needed for qemu-system-aarch64 to be able to boot the virtual machine images. See this page for more information: https://wiki.freebsd.org/arm64/QEMU To boot the VM image, run: % qemu-system-aarch64 -m 4096M -cpu cortex-a57 -M virt \ -bios QEMU_EFI.fd -serial telnet::4444,server -nographic \ -drive if=none,file=VMDISK,id=hd0 \ -device virtio-blk-device,drive=hd0 \ -device virtio-net-device,netdev=net0 \ -netdev user,id=net0 Be sure to replace "VMDISK" with the path to the virtual machine image. === Amazon EC2 AMI Images === FreeBSD/amd64 EC2 AMIs are available in the following regions: ap-south-2 region: ami-0c220ec2dcde44ae5 ap-south-1 region: ami-00c816cae5b8f4801 eu-south-1 region: ami-0dbcf549f8843c4f3 eu-south-2 region: ami-0cc6d3c3b6e2976c8 me-central-1 region: ami-0ddbe00fc94fede95 ca-central-1 region: ami-0f4664b5a9aa33775 eu-central-1 region: ami-0f4edf9b8145556bf eu-central-2 region: ami-02f6b2e5dd1e0e948 us-west-1 region: ami-0fb30ea549e688009 us-west-2 region: ami-009f918f3ffc7c7eb af-south-1 region: ami-03e7297303e071fa4 eu-north-1 region: ami-014809c655403372f eu-west-3 region: ami-0178e0a5569316b1e eu-west-2 region: ami-04c2d7ce12ab81f89 eu-west-1 region: ami-08170e82206480742 ap-northeast-3 region: ami-01c1b42055e2a6d27 ap-northeast-2 region: ami-0f7501b773b501ea5 me-south-1 region: ami-0d48b6a5e56fa13b9 ap-northeast-1 region: ami-03fadf1da25f738b1 sa-east-1 region: ami-00c68a437d5f5bc3e ap-east-1 region: ami-0a5e9e1eba575c961 ap-southeast-1 region: ami-03eed35cd4bfeeb8b ap-southeast-2 region: ami-04a8e5d232811212d ap-southeast-3 region: ami-0aca550f0dacfc441 us-east-1 region: ami-0eb219ede538bcdb4 us-east-2 region: ami-0621d7bf22dfb8ad6 These AMI IDs can be retrieved from the Systems Manager Parameter Store in each region using the keys: /aws/service/freebsd/amd64/base/ufs/13.2/RC4 FreeBSD/aarch64 EC2 AMIs are available in the following regions: ap-south-2 region: ami-05b3a92658b3d0512 ap-south-1 region: ami-06647a75a1b85280d eu-south-1 region: ami-09d4bc36483b42eb6 eu-south-2 region: ami-04e909c896ad004f5 me-central-1 region: ami-0cdfb00685491f8d5 ca-central-1 region: ami-054ea87f6c8526769 eu-central-1 region: ami-046c5f1b77fb710c3 eu-central-2 region: ami-02d671f6083b7cde0 us-west-1 region: ami-094487f6125de7e50 us-west-2 region: ami-035aaaea5e3acbdee af-south-1 region: ami-05bd2482ab3a18206 eu-north-1 region: ami-0dd3b2c4f350eda2f eu-west-3 region: ami-0a86d1f2a5c475500 eu-west-2 region: ami-005f8714e3192b132 eu-west-1 region: ami-03f9555cca22112cc ap-northeast-3 region: ami-0e80770e810c69e60 ap-northeast-2 region: ami-029d5968051932c02 me-south-1 region: ami-0620224818ddb25b4 ap-northeast-1 region: ami-035855a1583d59b72 sa-east-1 region: ami-0a8d088fe4b420031 ap-east-1 region: ami-00a5eb91f362c3248 ap-southeast-1 region: ami-033a721922e102286 ap-southeast-2 region: ami-0b97e3927300a7092 ap-southeast-3 region: ami-0f00dd90264708245 us-east-1 region: ami-074bd30ef04044413 us-east-2 region: ami-00e91fcffd34526e6 These AMI IDs can be retrieved from the Systems Manager Parameter Store in each region using the keys: /aws/service/freebsd/arm64/base/ufs/13.2/RC4 === Vagrant Images === FreeBSD/amd64 images are available on the Hashicorp Atlas site for the VMWare Desktop and VirtualBox providers, and can be installed by running: % vagrant init freebsd/FreeBSD-13.2-RC4 % vagrant up === Upgrading === The freebsd-update(8) utility supports binary upgrades of amd64, i386, and aarch64 systems running earlier FreeBSD releases. Systems running earlier FreeBSD releases can upgrade as follows: # freebsd-update upgrade -r 13.2-RC4 During this process, freebsd-update(8) may ask the user to help by merging some configuration files or by confirming that the automatically performed merging was done correctly. # freebsd-update install The system must be rebooted with the newly installed kernel before continuing. # shutdown -r now After rebooting, freebsd-update needs to be run again to install the new userland components: # freebsd-update install It is recommended to rebuild and install all applications if possible, especially if upgrading from an earlier FreeBSD release, for example, FreeBSD 12.x. Alternatively, the user can install misc/compat12x and other compatibility libraries, afterwards the system must be rebooted into the new userland: # shutdown -r now Finally, after rebooting, freebsd-update needs to be run again to remove stale files: # freebsd-update install == ISO CHECKSUMS == o 13.2-RC4 amd64 GENERIC: SHA512 (FreeBSD-13.2-RC4-amd64-bootonly.iso) =
