FreeBSD Developers Handbook Chapter 10: Kernel Debugging https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/developers-handbook/kerneldebug/ Running stable, kernel dumps may already be enabled, look in /var/crash By enabling a kernel dump when it panics (dumpdev="AUTO" in rc.conf) the kernel core is saved to swap space, then on reboot gets copied to dumpdir (/var/crash) where you can then use kgdb (from devel/gdb) to get a stack trace to find where the panic happened. -- FreeBSD - the place to B...Software Developing Shane Ambler From nobody Mon Mar 27 01:58:30 2023 X-Original-To: freebsd-stable@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4PlGF25MdJz41VmF; Mon, 27 Mar 2023 01:58:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cperciva@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:6074::16:84]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "freefall.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4PlGF25BHPz3Mjx; Mon, 27 Mar 2023 01:58:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cperciva@FreeBSD.org) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1679882310; h=from:from:reply-to:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date: message-id:message-id:to:to:cc:cc; bh=gUwBIQAxL+lei3Lvb84J0OViLV8ZCF4JcsdGU+Vh0YU=; b=WhyncGpEByh+rET0LP0qiLNzSiRnHVK7r7aCQbadrTS/e25oOwEm8v0GAPAzzajQ52nWJw BqI9YIcjFVE6cuD3FTT2vAnR/1PMxD3XkxSp/+0+ALADbD72eBF1yxcrM3lavhXLOBit8O QVKk7M6y9RExwl1mD/5BPg7zqGrdaYyVRKrhcZyruQe8gMkChNxuDpKRzed4Vz9ol6mtzj ZZ2hphSMzTh6dYzN9wGXV4twitt7qq4iY4HZHt/6BKmvU6jCWDunCylqJbwY1aAzBWyMii VNUxLiraWHm+Eq9dLbqLhrfVwHTe/qBuiBg2pC9M86jLZ33S3mhbI54j7krV8g== ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1679882310; h=from:from:reply-to:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date: message-id:message-id:to:to:cc:cc; bh=gUwBIQAxL+lei3Lvb84J0OViLV8ZCF4JcsdGU+Vh0YU=; b=Y5mSW1yIddYAX1V5Ekw9vIHDZRshSaNSrbdCHlCTuDiP+qEZUqlqk1lKZMsQSobu/uf4Wd k/ZZ2Gvk5JeUhBQpgvUf9xLgWGtoTHVpd5p3kb3+uwiFMi7K6KaOFa7y7XxSo2bhnNEcYj EHuY5/7domnlYXH3uUPzefXhtzA6wb0O/+6IEcrGahDPSSSCbAs/qBhoXMRoGvJKd4BLTz 4bbiCqg6Z5B6X6FMTDR5GfGEuQUFkWI0hIsrwHc1qfuoeBYflC+0TVgJ2MXeq2uZYscU3k m4fBGRERFGxGgS52slSmbW+Rzj63TZisW9bn3Bdm7N7xo8mb4DlxvjhO7Eln9w== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1679882310; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=fdRFarP2elWZBsKjrga9EQkCu4hxDD2hQumiTtzqaBnsEj3JystCj7JpC/EcRuE6YZ116z QT0/8IYJzoi//2BGlwCO087CeDMFc7L0O58x1obD27XHofAdaQZevrRkYMfKok2it0xOXh nTp8pRY2oUD45Dm/MD9QrzPu2P2O3zNjnZFj5jnN6JSRKi4tG2xwFS7dZvNz8eWxezWj64 jg0bYUEIK8e40vNKvUUxAmg/Y3uFTPTDs1nIskXsqadwAQJVfm9wlGjgf9iWBTL7YNBowZ wyGh2ozuZQ8HWcpKuoD4E09IbpnNENCDFvaRveNqEFrNvxeYWQYhHvBBgJzS/g== Received: by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix, from userid 1002) id 8F7ED1B45A; Mon, 27 Mar 2023 01:58:30 +0000 (UTC) To: freebsd-snapshots@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.org Cc: FreeBSD Release Engineering Team Reply-To: FreeBSD Release Engineering Team Subject: FreeBSD 13.2-RC5 Now Available Message-Id: <20230327015830.8F7ED1B45A@freefall.freebsd.org> Date: Mon, 27 Mar 2023 01:58:30 +0000 (UTC) From: Colin Percival X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N List-Id: Production branch of FreeBSD source code List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-stable List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-stable@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The fifth RC build of the 13.2-RELEASE release cycle is now available. Additionally, the root user password is set to root. It is strongly recommended to change the password for both users after gaining access to the system. Installer images and memory stick images are available here: https://download.freebsd.org/releases/ISO-IMAGES/13.2/ The image checksums follow at the end of this e-mail. If you notice problems you can report them through the Bugzilla PR system or on the -stable mailing list. If you would like to use Git to do a source based update of an existing system, use the "releng/13.2" branch. A summary of changes since 13.2-RC4 includes: o A fix to TCP checksum calculation on unmapped mbufs; in particular, this fixes a problem in sendfile(2). A list of changes since 13.1 is available in the releng/13.2 release notes: https://www.freebsd.org/releases/13.2R/relnotes/ === Virtual Machine Disk Images === VM disk images are available for the amd64, i386, and aarch64 architectures. Disk images may be downloaded from the following URL (or any of the FreeBSD download mirrors): https://download.freebsd.org/releases/VM-IMAGES/13.2-RC5/ BASIC-CI images can be found at: https://download.freebsd.org/releases/CI-IMAGES/13.2-RC5/ The partition layout is: ~ 16 kB - freebsd-boot GPT partition type (bootfs GPT label) ~ 1 GB - freebsd-swap GPT partition type (swapfs GPT label) ~ 20 GB - freebsd-ufs GPT partition type (rootfs GPT label) The disk images are available in QCOW2, VHD, VMDK, and raw disk image formats. The image download size is approximately 135 MB and 165 MB respectively (amd64/i386), decompressing to a 21 GB sparse image. Note regarding arm64/aarch64 virtual machine images: a modified QEMU EFI loader file is needed for qemu-system-aarch64 to be able to boot the virtual machine images. See this page for more information: https://wiki.freebsd.org/arm64/QEMU To boot the VM image, run: % qemu-system-aarch64 -m 4096M -cpu cortex-a57 -M virt \ -bios QEMU_EFI.fd -serial telnet::4444,server -nographic \ -drive if=none,file=VMDISK,id=hd0 \ -device virtio-blk-device,drive=hd0 \ -device virtio-net-device,netdev=net0 \ -netdev user,id=net0 Be sure to replace "VMDISK" with the path to the virtual machine image. === Amazon EC2 AMI Images === FreeBSD/amd64 EC2 AMIs are available in the following regions: ap-south-2 region: ami-02ea41814db49bf95 ap-south-1 region: ami-04899531912841eee eu-south-1 region: ami-0d7f23e20a4ba1da9 eu-south-2 region: ami-0268a74e636a3f17d me-central-1 region: ami-0da3eac74204c6d2b ca-central-1 region: ami-0c30b74ccc43c9259 eu-central-1 region: ami-0c1177d179de03cb2 eu-central-2 region: ami-04fcc73fe10dc269d us-west-1 region: ami-06c9e980184e7f039 us-west-2 region: ami-03cf0ef6e0609f4bb af-south-1 region: ami-00032ee97d0b2b8a5 eu-north-1 region: ami-0def6d6c935dd3150 eu-west-3 region: ami-03a06729fae0af231 eu-west-2 region: ami-00036a0cd8846a1a8 eu-west-1 region: ami-0272529d992a21bd8 ap-northeast-3 region: ami-0c796e7d2dda103ee ap-northeast-2 region: ami-0aab8019e76bacbf5 me-south-1 region: ami-08915e0c9a31c8d3f ap-northeast-1 region: ami-010c01b7a0054d073 sa-east-1 region: ami-0ca4865c467a0bc78 ap-east-1 region: ami-06e6c974707587b07 ap-southeast-1 region: ami-02eddd87ce626b59a ap-southeast-2 region: ami-0478125df144aeae8 ap-southeast-3 region: ami-06a80bf83ddd1eec2 us-east-1 region: ami-024f793a10a3c3055 us-east-2 region: ami-0204b9f18580b7a82 These AMI IDs can be retrieved from the Systems Manager Parameter Store in each region using the keys: /aws/service/freebsd/amd64/base/ufs/13.2/RC5 FreeBSD/aarch64 EC2 AMIs are available in the following regions: ap-south-2 region: ami-058737e79f6b7d198 ap-south-1 region: ami-0e317d5bf9a7a4a03 eu-south-1 region: ami-0804f20168a05729d eu-south-2 region: ami-008a6132815a77b8e me-central-1 region: ami-0dbca39a195f97c93 ca-central-1 region: ami-0dd02d0ef7e130062 eu-central-1 region: ami-0035d449c80b64f8b eu-central-2 region: ami-046562af1a2057d22 us-west-1 region: ami-0afded42e7f92396b us-west-2 region: ami-024318371e6efc9a5 af-south-1 region: ami-04e9908a06aa891f8 eu-north-1 region: ami-0ee86097fb60a7645 eu-west-3 region: ami-0ed3475fd229520a0 eu-west-2 region: ami-06457fc749035dd93 eu-west-1 region: ami-0512841edb2a108f3 ap-northeast-3 region: ami-0d17b368ca73c4fcb ap-northeast-2 region: ami-06ebb92e56bac00fe me-south-1 region: ami-0ffff443fed83b5be ap-northeast-1 region: ami-0465ade5181efdbbe sa-east-1 region: ami-0cacd88c950555c22 ap-east-1 region: ami-0d141b54724981bbc ap-southeast-1 region: ami-0067cf8005e01b79d ap-southeast-2 region: ami-0497e66059a015439 ap-southeast-3 region: ami-0e3b075aa900f5eb9 us-east-1 region: ami-01eb3b34ccdcd9d84 us-east-2 region: ami-0dec89a8e293c4aee These AMI IDs can be retrieved from the Systems Manager Parameter Store in each region using the keys: /aws/service/freebsd/arm64/base/ufs/13.2/RC5 === Vagrant Images === FreeBSD/amd64 images are available on the Hashicorp Atlas site for the VMWare Desktop and VirtualBox providers, and can be installed by running: % vagrant init freebsd/FreeBSD-13.2-RC5 % vagrant up === Upgrading === The freebsd-update(8) utility supports binary upgrades of amd64, i386, and aarch64 systems running earlier FreeBSD releases. Systems running earlier FreeBSD releases can upgrade as follows: # freebsd-update upgrade -r 13.2-RC5 During this process, freebsd-update(8) may ask the user to help by merging some configuration files or by confirming that the automatically performed merging was done correctly. # freebsd-update install The system must be rebooted with the newly installed kernel before continuing. # shutdown -r now After rebooting, freebsd-update needs to be run again to install the new userland components: # freebsd-update install It is recommended to rebuild and install all applications if possible, especially if upgrading from an earlier FreeBSD release, for example, FreeBSD 12.x. Alternatively, the user can install misc/compat12x and other compatibility libraries, afterwards the system must be rebooted into the new userland: # shutdown -r now Finally, after rebooting, freebsd-update needs to be run again to remove stale files: # freebsd-update install == ISO CHECKSUMS == o 13.2-RC5 amd64 GENERIC: SHA512 (FreeBSD-13.2-RC5-amd64-bootonly.iso) =
