I applied it on top of the `releng/13.2` branch on my system and followed the I've been running the test in question for half an hour i= n a loop and no failures yet! Thanks so much for your help debugging this. I must say - this has been my first experience with anything in BSD-world, and I've really appreciated ha= ving the source for the base system all in one giant git repo together. Makes it easy to go spelunking and understand how it all fits together. As someone w= ho recently spent many hours staring at #ifdef soup across glibc, libgcc_s, and the Linux kernel recently, it's been very refreshing! I don't really know how the backport process works - is your intention to backport this to 13.1/13.2 or would the fix just apply from 13.3 forward? If there's no backport I'll probably add `LD_BIND_NOW=3Dyes` to the Ruby test = runner for FreeBSD <=3D 13.2 - does this seem reasonable? --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Sun May 21 11:25:40 2023 X-Original-To: threads@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4QPJD66Bbzz4CPKk for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 11:25:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4QPJD655BHz4B7d for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 11:25:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1684668342; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=cdxy2XowJQ4Bktn/PZItdCWkNGMP1GdhR4bU7XwHbik=; b=FKqxcruRXP9moi0SDNCFzkHtpKM7GChgDEZalvqrEnLmZDGKdVDe7nrcd4RIGU0+/ni0mL +V45YexCFMRTFM7Ym54dEaM+kKibGCnAof/rBgYQKs1ZVVWjq73DlhqPlbF1jyZaC0d0WI tushFOorMKQEXxQI/ujPWKkwZ1qHQ59h6KABJc6X+gPimJXm0f3F2X2LnSaLv1UgNYTddI t7HZD+q/NUa0CVPySIfj+4ylHl9qLfsCF45ZnFMeClpT/YdA5cbnUuMdROvUzdoKsTocvT qX2f1X++hkT1qctBK50LcrOMhBQMrPHpFM/2v/itwzoYQ/on5DI+gWzuSkCRiA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1684668342; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=e3farKg6JebWFmmw2cyDHlwUOQ374h0vKtYZ8TFILCPUl/hyL4sLM12bzn5RnZBpLwek74 M/go56mTqh3zvKgu0EImTZuN3ovFNKY7jfwd8PKgCQxsLQwSo7EpDFky6kQvbFu8gDk3Gf 7wqGlPMbjj+k9vmsSFx1cRhC2WkM3TV91mWYSPO95zh3pAzgLDZxH12TZccwAvjfpywyl2 j4VBcSNlA7l/+Xf6ibuqjXrPJQkx7YRwYUZQuo791Nbn0QyOKKzRFZHDp5yqHOnnwJgnyu cP+dspfnmxyrkUkGiZ5oYaUV893ZcZL679+Nc5oUEkPNt6oBm64IkASaGVPlbw== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4QPJD648rgzqZj for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 11:25:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 34LBPg4O090408 for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 11:25:42 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 34LBPgEw090407 for threads@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 21 May 2023 11:25:42 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: threads@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 271490] Deadlock between _rtld_atfork_pre and _thr_attr_init Date: Sun, 21 May 2023 11:25:40 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: threads X-Bugzilla-Version: 13.2-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: kib@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: threads@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Threading List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-threads List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-threads@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-threads@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D271490 --- Comment #13 from Konstantin Belousov --- LD_BIND_NOW is not a fix, it mostly avoids taking the bind lock in parallel with the new thread creating its TLS segment, which also requires the same lock. I realise LD_BIND_NOW isn't a real fix - more just something I could add to= the test suite to avoid CI failures (rubyci.org actually still runs builds on FreeBSD 12.4 & 13.1, and it'd be nice if they also stopped failing for this reason). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Sun May 21 21:00:40 2023 X-Original-To: threads@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4QPXzY0PDmz4CT9J for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 21:00:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4QPXzX5mn1z4Cvs for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 21:00:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1684702840; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding; bh=0ENsTC0+YniIGHQrx++Vy220ztPaJCTEtK9Z5/PLzBI=; b=YHUA3P2e3v8C0sasb5p+UYSSsVT//iyoppgG3xKtL/Ct5zpBUwXYNNO3KOZ5tqderCyPSV 3PhcTpB+By0aDWdQyknAreZPbCDv4W8OCfON/5LOAGPzcPL3GzajFjDvogdECVmNSjs4kN zDBj4Fm8IJWq8pzqihUAF0nQtOKnnMq3Ilx8nRL+/uN9h97+Of9+IG5PsP5UH2kbnc20wr VU/4B6Au9GSkok82nLA2agXnRp1H2k3lVVm1cx9KO9woI+n86XkmjfPPuNbMMfNZiq7Bk+ 9emLi6/XnpGV60ghbi8Qp0WaOX4BSkqkXIgtpYy+bSR1qSjgB2mKctlfdw/+PA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1684702840; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=TnJ+nCS6TycPt4L663nXVFEM/G8IzMJDPYI5mH38gj+vv5zt7yC5W6nujWAUFXoPM08Ol6 z8isM/pbBdTu+owSm89JvBVttPogp6uWZnr8zzuEf0WvxnI4Hy3SWAJX/rkQda8BN24jBU vZL0elMKOnKvkDb0atsSlHhTl5eGtWTHpTRnIXvYEag8n6toPjBmudbrYanT68HczH+cWU 5DgsZFNJhWb/UK8ZQjK8yrJCxnyoSbytDrzzXPunoaO17HPxbYL65P1yvea2WGZ1Xd6crx n1IvZmAxy//tKA11a/ImCHI2aox+F+dr8DgGUAX+OZ8m6dOzlh//jJzWUiPZ+Q== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4QPXzX4qbRz164Q for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 21:00:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 34LL0e4h040875 for ; Sun, 21 May 2023 21:00:40 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from bugzilla@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 34LL0edG040874 for threads@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 21 May 2023 21:00:40 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Message-Id: <202305212100.34LL0edG040874@kenobi.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: bugzilla set sender to bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org To: threads@FreeBSD.org Subject: Problem reports for threads@FreeBSD.org that need special attention Date: Sun, 21 May 2023 21:00:40 +0000 List-Id: Threading List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-threads List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-threads@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-threads@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="16847028402.cCea78f6D.37781" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N --16847028402.cCea78f6D.37781 Date: Sun, 21 May 2023 21:00:40 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" To view an individual PR, use: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=(Bug Id). This long-standing bug affecting FreeBSD starting from 13.0 was not investigated because it was very specific. I think this should be released asap as it's not strictly related to Ruby, = but it's in the thread lib inside the base. In my case, I had to revert the upgrade to 13.0 because of it. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
