It is not 100% solid, but no more crashes, and when it stalls, I get it back via suspend/resume (so this works also). I am calling "service netif stop" from acpi suspend, and "sleep 3; service netif start" from acpi resume. I am happy now, and this can probably be closed. I just pushed code for mt76 (mt7915 and mt7921) and ath10k into main. ath10k is based solely on the Linux version (as good or bad that is) and has the bus probe result set that it'll be secondary to a native driver (like we currently do for iwlwifi and iwm). So people working or testing athp should not be affected by this. I have 3 more changes to add mt76, ath10k, and rtw89 to the build so people can start testing and the people who had interest before can work on making them more stable. This will not happen before earliest Wednesday as I am travelling back home and I cannot test before that that all needed 802.11 LinuxKPI changes are in from my dev tree for this. I believe at least scanning for rtw89 needs a fix still. ath11k is currently building but as indicated (and as previously announced) needs more work on supportive linuxkpi infrastructure. There's also a holdup due a different SPDX-only license tag currently being cross-checked; otherwise I'd push the sources into the tree too as I know several developers have ath11k laptops. The fact that the drivers were staged for a while didn't get them the latest updates but with all but ath11k out of my tree that'll be easier and smaller changes now so we can pull them all to the same level. Firmware is available in ports. I've added wifi-firmware-{rtw88,rtw89,mt76,ath10k,ath11k}-kmod ports for these. Thanks to lwhsu and rene who've helped with this and to portmgr who helped with simplifying my first attempt. The idea is to make it possible to no longer relay on MBs and MBs of (mostly) unused firmware files in src.git. A next step to solve is to get them into the release media installed (not as packages) so people can use wifi on laptops without ethernet during install. I wouldn't expect the drivers to be more or less stable than you can at this point but after 8+ years this seems the only way forward. Also (other) currently existing LinuxKPI 802.11 insufficiencies will make them more or less happy. I'll send a second email in a few minutes about further plans. Bjoern -- Bjoern A. I'll write my *personal* braindump here. A lot of delay comes from the fact that real life afk takes a huge toll on me. Beeing on the road I am greatly enjoying sitting down and working on bits despite the mountain to work on still seeming too big. Now that most drivers + LinuxKPI changes needed for them + surrounding dependencies are out of my queue there's a few things to do with the two first items being the most pressing ones for me: - On one side I would have long loved to have 11n and 11ac bits done and in and I want to push parts of the background work in before 15 ideally. - On the other hand the two main bug reports and requests remain the long-standing sta problem (which I understand very well but haven't had consecutive time to sit down and fix) and suspend/resume improvements. Another next thing I want to do is pull all drivers up to the same level based on the latest Linux release or wireless-testing depding on when it happens. The reason will basically need to do them all together is Linux"KPI" changes will require them to be aligned. Wifi is a (too) fast moving target. More to do (at least for recent and actively maintained drivers) after this is to push local changes and fixes upstream. Bug reports and other problems and newer standards, fixes, security improvements, AP support, other improvements, ..., it's a long and never-ending list I should write down somewhere. Newer drivers, USB support in LinuxKPI especially for Realtek as a start, ... You want to do some of that (even a tiny part) please contact me. And I'll try to contact all of you the next days who are already waiting for one or the other driver to work on. More in few days when I am back home. Lots of health, /bz -- Bjoern A. Same behavior on 12.3, 12.4, 13.1, 13.2, and today's 14-CURRENT. Everything looks okay on boot but "ifco= nfig wlan0 list scan" never returns anything and it's unable to join any network= s. I also think the MAC address of wlan0 is odd (another commenter had the same): 00:02:03:04:05:06. I have never gotten the wireless to work under FreeBSD, = even after the ifconfig up/down workaround suggested elsewhere. The laptop does = have an switch to disable the wireless but it is in the enabled position. One ot= her thing I've noticed is that when booting to Windows the Wifi LED above the keyboard lights up partway through the boot (when the driver attaches, perh= aps) and stays illuminated, but it never lights up under FreeBSD. I'd love for someone who knows anything about the wireless subsystem to tak= e a look. As another commenter offered I could make the machine remotely reacha= ble, or I'll be happy to drag it to BSDCan next month if anyone who will be there wants to poke at it. #pciconf ath0@pci0:4:0:0: class=3D0x028000 rev=3D0x01 hdr=3D0x00 vendor=3D0x1= 68c device=3D0x0034 subvendor=3D0x1028 subdevice=3D0x020d vendor =3D 'Qualcomm Atheros' device =3D 'AR9462 Wireless Network Adapter' class =3D network #dmesg ath0: mem 0xf7000000-0xf707ffff at device 0.0 on pc= i4 ath0: [HT] enabling HT modes ath0: [HT] enabling short-GI in 20MHz mode ath0: [HT] 1 stream STBC receive enabled ath0: [HT] 1 stream STBC transmit enabled ath0: [HT] LDPC transmit/receive enabled ath0: [HT] 3 RX streams; 3 TX streams ath0: AR9460 mac 640.2 RF5110 phy 802.5 ath0: 2GHz radio: 0x0000; 5GHz radio: 0x0000 #rc.conf create_args_wlan0=3D"country US regdomain FCC" wlans_ath0=3D"wlan0" ifconfig_wlan0=3D"WPA SYNCDHCP" #wpa_supplicant.conf ctrl_interface=3D/var/run/wpa_supplicant eapol_version=3D2 ap_scan=3D1 fast_reauth=3D1 network=3D{ ssid=3D"SSID_redacted" psk=3D"PSK_redacted" } #ifconfig wlan0: flags=3D8843 metric 0 mtu 15= 00 ether 00:02:03:04:05:06 groups: wlan ssid "" channel 165 (5825 MHz 11a) regdomain FCC country US ecm authmode WPA1+WPA2/802.11i privacy MIX= ED deftxkey UNDEF txpower 23 bmiss 7 mcastrate 6 mgmtrate 6 scanvalid = 60 wme burst roaming MANUAL bintval 0 parent interface: ath0 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (autoselect) status: no carrier nd6 options=3D29 --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
