I'm not able to pinpoint anything in particular causing it. My IRC log tells me I'm disconnecting ev= ery 10-20 minutes during a long period of inactivity (as in, computer put aside, but not going to sleep). If I wait long enough it will reconnect, but runni= ng `ifconfig wlan0 scan` resolves the issue temporarily. Zeeb --- (In reply to Eirik Oeverby from comment #7) So for now most changes are in stable/14 -- you probably noticed. Questions: (0) which chipset/firmware version is this? (1) concerning the topic: "sporadic loss of connectivity" still there; pan= ics are gone? -- there's one known issue to cause a panic still (tracked elsewhere). (2) Can you increase wpa_supplicant logging (-ddd) and see if anything show= s up in the logs that gives you a reason? (3) Out of fun and curiosity, what happens if you would let a ping to your gateway run while otherwise "idle" (laptop put away)? --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Sun Oct 8 12:40:17 2023 X-Original-To: wireless@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4S3MFZ1hKnz4wYgh for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 12:40:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4S3MFZ0h42z4QWw for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 12:40:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1696768818; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=yP/6/zM9cdLAT5LVgwhXNej2415OUjk/4Aq7Rd2AH2i0bkt4w2XV+vUkaA8k5pLsZ4jLbL t9qDLWR7U13cEU2epg+gca4wM4Cd1MJTNByI/kSwfCq2fCuH9kdYseKRn+OMLcoWtmB3Io qvdZhOQv3t44ZDcC2FjF/L+iNiAz8rPS1eWOdxMCW8SLeob+mw8MQ+pOWJuwB89JqFopgN BVQGcv5TmEhIHlKMs+gCw3W6U0+Wca0wvJYgZdJAoG1YwkciyrylcO05Y33bHo5MLIG0vu P+wmrgirOaWg9tjcYdblLS+62DNwKGS0fxkTP7j2tjliAALUhEk67AE3djW/QA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1696768818; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=fwntcRzpc2UQLfYDGB65WncELfE2vBwKqI5SAGjDCLU=; b=jGCLBFbud+6jyyeoby5AmyeD9aGcSZyNyTMgEi5b1jY/p1oAi9dwY6ufJQwk2AxufCM3ND hPUlzr4VzBo1Li1w+I38i90EruXfogQL6FbbXroNItAV4omLZtKqTCxQTk+a2YV/4+jDpy c/WX3M1ew7MFoVJTmHnB/HocMuTMoA2TPfv73P0hfDEuX8T3qYggQFtepO8Rzm5X6KTziu ZyZLq9/SVbEcDnVoWCLvfV1q5X1mgJiWLkiDxxJaSN0VZ7sF17hakErJK/IHnd56FRu+mD MkJfLI369FHaQ5kfkm701CbbmxA0zV7FdnxDwNjZe77t8XohhQZipJXgOKKwlg== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4S3MFY6ZsXz1CDj for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 12:40:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 398CeHVF046239 for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 12:40:17 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 398CeHWT046238 for wireless@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 12:40:17 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: wireless@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 271979] bsdinstall(8): iwlwifi(4): system crash when authenticating for Wi-Fi: panic: lkpi_sta_auth_to_scan: lsta 0x... state not NONE: 0, nstate 1 arg 1 Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2023 12:40:17 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash, install, needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: bz@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bz@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_status Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Discussions List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-wireless List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D271979 Bjoern A. It didn't use to do that, not sure if it'= s a hardware reset or something I can prevent through some sysctl. What hasn't happened (yet) is that I need to hard-reset the machine; this sometimes happened on netif restart, especially related to being associated with an iPhone hotspot - usually afterwards, when trying to associate with something else. 2: I've done that now; where should I expect the logs? I see a bit in /var/log/messages so I'll get back with info if I get any. 3: I'll let you know. PS: Whenever it reconnects (following a manual scan), speed tends to drop. I usually find myself at the lowest possible speed, like 11 or 6Mbps or whate= ver it is. Hideously slow, anyway. A netif restart gets me back to 54 for a bit. /Eirik --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Sun Oct 8 21:00:27 2023 X-Original-To: wireless@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4S3ZLh5Sffz4xCK5 for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 21:00:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4S3ZLh1Pscz4XGQ for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 21:00:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1696798828; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=fnsWg+6FMf7OvHwh4M3rLMoMP3TRUHKmJ+2BhZVl2VGYTA5SqmDQoNYVR1cokMEX5qvDNY Fkd+axQ59b1VAVHEVmxIQPAvkF+yT72dl/3jpG4ncTjQaIJypRr4isNwwtL19DgtMNAv9R suhM9KGwMX4k6mNw0VgDP76pDi8Li4kxi/2Rxk7fv/S0uH5QLUWROnrv1q8FlzdiggflJt 9YROjss3c0relVVFYrdTCXesoP1LMiDtCj58KnfRKasUGtJasTe/tYm8CtXbymzFjMM7m7 wZ/kJ//0OJf+KWE3lBof58DjsRb78F66wI6RJEZsPzsajgBtMOE9LzvsZJZvMA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1696798828; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding; bh=dVpF9jo1P+hi8J/PwaAjEL7p++JFJPzVC93B1n+3Lj4=; b=VjuyBqjOdxfFlpGIAocRtk76DCTkF2Vx21goe+hN3WM1CuwtPD+OssOa0mklKREugPI1SH Zizc3AcO6lIaS29HmPYez/RMkyj5D1f2T2AcTLE8Qro95D4QsEnlTo1tAHpo+alQVuQM71 iCnU83xOD7VeVuTR8op+MigVJZDBGYiTdHEC4TJjnqFP0Mv3TGY/X3WX4PXkGq3X5j/li+ njd3bekf1PO69PLCg3gEk1ogQqr4r+xkwpnpzONUzk3gJURMq91kC3sRo4tSi22nnKqWDr 5kj8e3yU8ktLPtc+pD/vDFgm/rZifty4jEf/gbJOQH+RJXK7hP5z0Tk/PIBfYw== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4S3ZLh0QN3zCdm for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 21:00:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 398L0SFY033344 for ; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 21:00:28 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from bugzilla@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 398L0RjN033343 for wireless@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 8 Oct 2023 21:00:27 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Message-Id: <202310082100.398L0RjN033343@kenobi.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: bugzilla set sender to bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org To: wireless@FreeBSD.org Subject: Problem reports for wireless@FreeBSD.org that need special attention Date: Sun, 8 Oct 2023 21:00:27 +0000 List-Id: Discussions List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-wireless List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="16967988275.325a4.30986" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit --16967988275.325a4.30986 Date: Sun, 8 Oct 2023 21:00:27 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" To view an individual PR, use: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=(Bug Id). Finally back home and I upgraded my laptop to 15= /stable.

So far, it looks good. I need t= o try restarting the interface (netif) a few times as that periodically tri= ggered the familiar panic. I will beat on it a bit harder soon.

I did get some messages that may not be normal duri= ng hte boot, but they don't seem to have affected anything.

Possibly my 8822c is sitting inside a rack without antennas, possibly there is a driver issue. I won't be able to say until next week. On he good side, both my 8821c and 8822b came up just fine on first attempt and were passing some packets. In case anyone else could confirm that rtw88 gets attached or even working that would be great news. # pciconf -lv pci4:18:0:0 rtw881@pci4:18:0:0: class=0x028000 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x10ec device=0xc821 subvendor=0x103c subdevice=0x831a vendor = 'Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.' device = 'RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter' class = network # pciconf -lv pci4:5:0:0 rtw880@pci4:5:0:0: class=0x028000 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x10ec device=0xb822 subvendor=0x103c subdevice=0x831b vendor = 'Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.' device = 'RTL8822BE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi adapter' class = network wlan7: flags=8843 metric 0 mtu 1500 options=0 ether 9c:30:5b:57:8b:11 inet6 fe80::9e30:5bff:fe57:8b11%wlan7 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x3 groups: wlan ssid abc123 channel 36 (5180 MHz 11a) bssid 9a:9d:7e:76:6f:fa regdomain ETSI country DE authmode WPA2/802.11i privacy ON deftxkey UNDEF AES-CCM 2:128-bit txpower 17 bmiss 7 mcastrate 6 mgmtrate 6 scanvalid 60 wme roaming MANUAL parent interface: rtw880 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet OFDM/6Mbps mode 11a status: associated nd6 options=23 wlan8: flags=8843 metric 0 mtu 1500 options=0 ether 5c:ea:1d:32:a2:0f inet6 fe80::5eea:1dff:fe32:a20f%wlan8 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 groups: wlan ssid abc123 channel 36 (5180 MHz 11a) bssid 9a:9d:7e:76:6f:fa regdomain ETSI country DE authmode WPA2/802.11i privacy ON deftxkey UNDEF AES-CCM 2:128-bit txpower 17 bmiss 7 mcastrate 6 mgmtrate 6 scanvalid 60 wme roaming MANUAL parent interface: rtw881 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet OFDM/36Mbps mode 11a status: associated nd6 options=23 > If you have any rtw88 supported devices please test and report back with > PCI ID and state here or add information to the PR at [2]. > > Also please do not forget to set the sysctl to limit memory to 32bit > (see man page). Unconditionally enable logging and add a note to report to a specific PR in the log message for now. Along with 018d93ece16b this will hopefully help us to understand what is going on. Zeeb CommitDate: 2023-10-09 23:14:52 +0000 LinuxKPI: 802.11: improve lkpi_ic_vap_delete() Changing the order of cleanup in lkpi_ic_vap_delete() will avoid firmware crashes or a direct panic as observed as ieee80211_vap_detach() will do most cleanup for us and get us into the correct state. Calling mo_stop() in lkpi_ic_vap_delete() seems to stop the problem that further VAPs could not be created (error 17) after the first one being destroyed. Zeeb from comment #6) Hi, I just gave iwlwifi a try on 14.0-BETA5 and it was again as fast as it's been (considering 802.11a). So the 'drop in performance' is no more... Gonna try and keep using it for a while so I can test how stable it is as of now. Thank you for your ongoing work! --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.=
