The tracing ifnet's name must match the nexus name. One way to do this is to not use a unit number. 2. Do not hold the tracer lock around ether_ifattach or ether_ifdetach. netlink calls back into the driver (see stack below) and that leads to illegal lock recursion. tracer_ioctl if_ioctl get_operstate_ether get_operstate dump_iface rtnl_handle_ifevent rtnl_handle_ifattach if_attach_internal if_attach ether_ifattach t4_cloner_create MFC after: 3 days Sponsored by: Chelsio Communications --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Wed Jan 3 08:20:03 2024 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4T4jM75vznz55HGH for ; Wed, 3 Jan 2024 08:20:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4T4jM74LMPz48lc for ; Wed, 3 Jan 2024 08:20:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1704270003; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=79Hlk8AXYVIxHAPDJUdXseBxOP0KgRRUZQPjyDEk8uw=; b=lEKYWPHSeR3c/XiogiOrqgqy/BcGPyBH7N3lPEmEEZQ8E/R5ygyZF3V6OmUzPTMcCbwc/N lAJpx9YL0a3IhA93xyB+3kyPEEp7atg57EB6O2rUIMrMbCRIS4dv+nUe7SejdmoYzGgDtQ 514Og7nDuXWVyg3CVh92XJr/HMqr1Jx+CSDsgFo+bHtqzLMCVmnQuM0rFzz+uMU2WUQL0P T8GfcP/GvFUPTWOzmt4fYfSG/76E8NxOm73ac+HvulcFqnEmVgVvWw1IEeutLETdMH9j7+ B+EL0eYq/FkgEHQprHmJQaMbAzSpJVh5b1kfJE2Pp5fM8kpu7momQsP4aLYH5g== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1704270003; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=NOsT0yKh03FBJbwf8zdxNRxO3BDaXmnCw7Kwvcqbt4lWmTFCpfGNNvTcGgQOwK/rEnRSyO DIHqPBwU9g+DqGHtO27cE/AKsp/FYh42XWYXfTvXQqEnbOgEjYpQRBHvX4hSNom1LO7LDh Mm9C31FKdr8Hh0OcubcCWK/LV2hpETvHfaqKGrHZpLJfN5p/YDdmLvCDGG0gEr88ioPON1 B5mJUjF7YeXiM9HRWZGYgGQPDBI1KlE2tNCLB5rCI1hKtFup5zwDwdqQKuYPqDdSmWfyQW 1qUZl1wN0VceXdKa+NC6MLNiSHCeer1Z4r7DQg/Xxr4BMHcB86auPcTnr/Rc0g== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4T4jM73PBFzdG0 for ; Wed, 3 Jan 2024 08:20:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 4038K3b2065814 for ; Wed, 3 Jan 2024 08:20:03 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 4038K3w4065811 for net@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 3 Jan 2024 08:20:03 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 231192] cxl: nic does not work after reboot Date: Wed, 03 Jan 2024 08:20:03 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: regression X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: np@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Closed X-Bugzilla-Resolution: Unable to Reproduce X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: np@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_status resolution Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Networking and TCP/IP with FreeBSD List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-net List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-net@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D231192 Navdeep Parhar changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|Open |Closed Resolution|--- |Unable to Reproduce --- Comment #2 from Navdeep Parhar --- I tried a a couple of different 1G optics in a T540 in a system running head and they both worked just fine. All jails are bridged to the external interfaces (lagg + vlan) and also have a private bridge not connected to any hardware or network. The jails run a CMS and the database server is centralised. Today the customer called in and told me that he could finally spot a problem they had noticed for quite some time but where never able to really diagnose. RTT across the private bridge - again, not connected to any = infrastructure - and with 250 hosts not really an overpopulated broadcast domain is way to high and highly fluctuating: root@vpro0742:~ # ping dbhost PING6(56=3D40+8+8 bytes) fd31:4159:96::742 --> fd31:4159:96::472 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D0 hlim=3D64 time=3D140.344 = ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D1 hlim=3D64 time=3D166.879 = ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D2 hlim=3D64 time=3D158.025 = ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D3 hlim=3D64 time=3D111.139 = ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D4 hlim=3D64 time=3D124.974 = ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D5 hlim=3D64 time=3D137.521 = ms ^C --- dbhost ping6 statistics --- 6 packets transmitted, 6 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev =3D 111.139/139.813/166.879/18.762 ms For the external bridge things look similar but due to other factors at = play (larger broadcast domain, real infrastructure etc.) I'll concentrate on = the private bridge first. When the host system is booted at first the performance is as expected. The more jails are brought online the worse it seems to get. I have found various discussions concerning pf NAT and LRO and similar problems with hardware offloading. Needless to say it's all disabled on the external network interfaces (igb), but the private bridge of course = does not even have any of this. Also we do not use pf anywhere but we do use ipfw in every single jail for our inbound SNI proxy connections. So for a quick test I changed these rules to firewall_type=3D"open" in = rc.conf in two of the jails but that seemed not to change much although the = numbers seem to be slightly lower: root@vpro0742:~ # ping dbhost PING6(56=3D40+8+8 bytes) fd31:4159:96::742 --> fd31:4159:96::472 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D0 hlim=3D64 time=3D67.275 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D1 hlim=3D64 time=3D69.677 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D2 hlim=3D64 time=3D65.679 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D3 hlim=3D64 time=3D75.663 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D4 hlim=3D64 time=3D66.416 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D5 hlim=3D64 time=3D92.396 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D6 hlim=3D64 time=3D103.968 = ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D7 hlim=3D64 time=3D84.832 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D8 hlim=3D64 time=3D71.411 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D9 hlim=3D64 time=3D73.255 ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D10 hlim=3D64 time=3D50.535 = ms 16 bytes from fd31:4159:96::472, icmp_seq=3D11 hlim=3D64 time=3D51.770 = ms The rules in action look like this: --------- add 2000 fwd ::1,57 tcp from 2a00:b580:8000:12:deaf:beef:dead:beef to = me6 443 in add 2100 fwd ::1,87 tcp from 2a00:b580:8000:12:deaf:beef:dead:beef to = me6 80 in --------- The IPv6 address is our SNI proxy. FreeBSD 15.0-CURRENT #28 main-n267432-e5b33e6eef7: Sun Jan 7 13:18:15 CET 2024 amd64 Main Host has IPFW configured and is open for services like OpenLDAP on UDP/TCP and ICMP (ipfw is configured via rc.conf in this case, host is listening on both protocol families IPv4 and IPv6). The host itself has openldap-server 2.6 as a service. The host's interface is igb0 with assigned ULA. JAILs (around eight jails) are sharing their vnet interfaces via a bridge with the same physical device as the host (igb0). After a while (the time elapsed is unspecific) the jail is unable to contact the host via IPv6: neither UDP, TCP nor ICMP sent from the JAIL is reaching the host. IPv4 is working like a charme! No problems there. When pinging the Jail from the main host via ping -6, the jail is responding! After the first ping -6, the jail now is able to ping -6 the main host. After a fresh reboot, the problem is not present and occurs after a while and it seems to happen first to very active jails. Kind regards, oh -- O. It's far too late to change inet_aton(), etc; they have had this behavior f= or 40 years, and it is in the other BSDs too. In fact, route uses inet_aton(), and supports this behavior. It just isn't the behavior that some people expect. Worse, as noted in comment 6, route had special code to "do what I mean" and shifted the address until the most-significant octet was non-zero= .=20 That was removed from route about 13.x. When this bug was first opened in 2021, I thought that we should restore that behavior to avoid breaking thin= gs.=20 However, it has been long enough that most people have adapted. Now I thin= k we should detect the incorrect values and fail, rather than doing something nonsensical. Unfortunately, we had neither change in place for 13.2 or 14.= 0, and now there are new people upgrading from 12.x now that it is EOL. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Sun Jan 7 20:05:08 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4T7TFR0K9Bz55shd for ; Sun, 7 Jan 2024 20:24:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from yuri@FreeBSD.org) Received: from shell1.rawbw.com (shell1.rawbw.com [198.144.192.42]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4T7TFQ0lgQz4nrc for ; Sun, 7 Jan 2024 20:24:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from yuri@FreeBSD.org) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=none; spf=softfail (mx1.freebsd.org: 198.144.192.42 is neither permitted nor denied by domain of yuri@FreeBSD.org) smtp.mailfrom=yuri@FreeBSD.org Received: from [192.168.5.3] (c-98-42-44-116.hsd1.ca.comcast.net [98.42.44.116]) (authenticated bits=0) by shell1.rawbw.com (8.15.1/8.15.1) with ESMTPSA id 407K59gK070166 (version=TLSv1.2 cipher=ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 bits=128 verify=NO) for ; Sun, 7 Jan 2024 12:05:11 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from yuri@FreeBSD.org) X-Authentication-Warning: shell1.rawbw.com: Host c-98-42-44-116.hsd1.ca.comcast.net [98.42.44.116] claimed to be [192.168.5.3] Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="------------rtoQKyunFcLZkRH5CRSds6sQ" Message-ID: <4069a345-5799-4608-9480-f7183ef48ab2@FreeBSD.org> Date: Sun, 7 Jan 2024 12:05:08 -0800 List-Id: Networking and TCP/IP with FreeBSD List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-net List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-net@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird Content-Language: en-US To: "freebsd-net@freebsd.org" From: Yuri Subject: /etc/hosts doesn't work in jails?
