We only DIOCXROLLBACK from pfctl_rules() (in sbin/pfctl), and then only aft= er a 'goto _error'. That must mean we've failed to load one of the options in pfctl_load_option= s(). All but one of those are old-style ioctls and show no errors, so that would imply that it has to be pfctl_load_logif() (i.e. pfctl_set_statusif() in libpfctl) that fails. However, that can really only fail if the log interface name is too long, a= nd that does not appear to be the case here. That's a newly converted-to-netlink call, so at least that's somewhat plaus= ible at a source of shiny new bugs. It's also all we have to go on right now. Can you try running `dtrace -n 'fbt::pf_handle_set_statusif:return { printf("%#x %#x", arg0, arg1); }'` and then loading the relevant pf.conf? --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Mon Apr 1 11:44:09 2024 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4V7TgZ6C0Qz5GJcH for ; With the most recently shared patch applied, bge WOL works on both 13.3R and 14.0R. Mind you, booting the patched GENERIC kernel automatically enables WOL_MAGI= C, no need to issue an "ifconfig bge0 wol". In fact, that command does not see= m to change anything at all. For reference, I also included the "ifconfig em0" output from a Dell Optipl= ex 7050 (has no bge). And the behaviour is the same there. WOL_MAGIC is immediately enabled for the em0, no need for an "ifconfig em0 wol". Althoug= h, this command does seem to enable other WOL_ options for the em0, and those options I have never seen with the bge interface. Summary: as much as I can tell, these bge patches achieve WOL, work reliabl= y on both 13R and 14R. Tested on two different computer models: HP T610 Thin Cli= ent, HP MicroServer N40L. I hope to see this incorporated to the base system. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Tue Apr 2 16:02:16 2024 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4V8CM02BQXz5Gtg3 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:02:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8CM017sRz4T36 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:02:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1712073740; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=M+AeINO+EqxyI25PxRegBt7/fZHRVOp6+2FNsE0G75KYKm9WjyR/b+g2B+m8o7q4i5ZCnW VLQnQC3ZnkxhilCCZaiuk8wVoIKk3+jRXoecubgNynDkFk5o/UTBnY2siA2cng3dOr+tqh +oThPvR4zAVWG7psx9o4qPzyPe9J9mStrqmipoXL2Ltka853uwOYaa8+rEjCWiHGBJjET6 ExX4kkJp5UgVUvBBniNIqh+vzOoVnivRC5no0vWBoMiK0F370fe5COXbCFotUMW9iZT/Kb ojkVTsVlwXca8zUXW/N9h2UE3xGkIovo26b1mfqEi0CqrtFQauahVFyTQdazxw== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1712073740; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=1SHdBWXCgRrN+VXZJffnqlChpYQJV8tIJ/l8qMIsPjE=; b=AXeojIBkpnIpN6Ut+JSMqR4ezZbUCD08T3V6n8cDEOsElCwcooPf7j6XAJDnexP61n5C8a WayfZ3w7d4zM5YYloHn3XOEl5TyI0kHIVSJAPd4VVHsqq/p8GQCZjCvgWzBSUr6bkyGlfB 8S3w8Lp6dsciwIQ0vOqC6isiOP+vJotUR0QUGVb3/JBdICp0IMDrvH3efBcqch0XdxL7vs wUJMKksnouGU7GX8DmRgk3F2g1xdI/dn0OvOPGxFmGlquWEpIKhaWUBGAm76uXR6LHNMqM iYE1qYCsSkJO1fi3Emh4MqQo+IfhY1HCjR4nXokIXi0PPRXWk64mSSAz/2Yjtg== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8CM00mBczwSQ for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:02:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 432G2K4I043518 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:02:20 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 432G2KEP043507 for net@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:02:20 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 218579] bge(4): Wake on Lan (WoL) does not work Date: Tue, 02 Apr 2024 16:02:16 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable14+ mfc-stable13+ mfc-stable12? Or do they reboot? My Acer laptop will momentarily power off, then pow= er itself back on again if WOL was previously received and no intervening rebo= ot performed. This could be an Acer ACPI problem -- there are other Acer ACPI problems which are either resolved or worsened by successive ACPI imports. If the ifconfig wol keyword doesn't work, that's a problem. It works proper= ly here on 15-CURRENT and did on 14-CURRENT. The two main things I need to understand from people testing this patch are: 1. Does power off still work if the system was woken using WOL and no intervening reboot performed? (This is busted on my Acer laptop.) 2. Does ifconfig wol do anything? This works here. One caveat. ifconfig wol will not work if bge(4) is a member of lagg(4). Th= is is a lagg(4) problem. Anyone testing this patch must not use lagg(4) or they must implement a lagg(4) in rc.shutdown or rc.final. lagg(4) disables WOL. lagg(4) masks any function supported by underlying interfaces unless that s= ame function has been implemented in lagg(4). Can you please answer the two questions above? Thanks. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Tue Apr 2 16:38:48 2024 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4V8D993Lwfz5Gy34 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:38:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8D991fNvz4ZbH for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:38:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1712075933; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=x5KXyA57DbPJQzhvuN0W6Fib16nR8DDwVRhvBy4z0DoU8005gwUcQVqT35MUt/GqBkZtlu 68OUmNoVTGjOoNl7pIl7wwtW4Mc/QetHOqfV0YaaE6pvqpA0zIn6yVtIlcT3X2w7jG+7vI nvhGLZQD9JSPW6za5hin27aR2Xy/T6oBhpPdlAiY2AxyQWnqwY86HHozwbAUThzEqbkJTe /D1zOYfrD6ZV1m5jvRx3kbgx4jON7Uu208N4L3oFWnIaWWSZkhFYnK07xchbY+Pa4cPw9l 1TE5jmKIobrCTlQDigq/gKY3TuWp2kybLdo7wt/ZNQXN5W3u/FumAPULYqCEwA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1712075933; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=K2V2IbDOYBwRJuGIKFbsm5+zNhL2BeYaBIpJ2eXr1u4=; b=K8KgfrqJEIQY77PaHsEn44u5/SCv4l2se7IMnBBNU+FknAVc4T1PRVGcdNLTktAUgSh29K eu/21+vtd6aR8nQl3rd0ybIfDMHR7YVdBcSF+6bTM2O84WMgQ6JEHx/EPHohwg08VY4YTL wbOo4KsRdBZ9SoBc+++5qEcTRarSmJxhW5obnZdlRu/9ENiy1FnCLVwgwwBRrZvJ4k1z/W JI6jovQblYsFQfUZeR8Iq63EVsnHyxhed56/F21Rsgexw7exTyMxloDwF8WJJx2lO2hI3w MWFbHFvvi5XaLO+pOdav5MfaiKVRKu/zMvrCPpoog7Tky+J6Qhy8OftH5CKA7w== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8D991GfmzxJ3 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:38:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 432GcrLi018860 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:38:53 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 432Gcqso018853 for net@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:38:52 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 218579] bge(4): Wake on Lan (WoL) does not work Date: Tue, 02 Apr 2024 16:38:48 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: freebsd.bug@nagykeve.e4ward.com X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable14+ mfc-stable13+ mfc-stable12? Does power off still work if the system was woken using WOL and no intervening reboot performed? A1. In my tests, I experienced no unexpected reboots/autostarts. I always finished with a "shutdown -p now;exit" command, and the computer properly s= hut down and powered off each time. Regarless of which computer I used (T610 or MicroServer), which version of FreeBSD I used (13.3R or 14.0R), or which ke= rnel I booted (bge patched GENERIC or factory GENERIC). So powering down worked always fine. The difference in unpatched or patched kernel meant that "wake" did wake the computer up or did not. When I used "shutdown -r now", THEN and ONLY THEN the computer automatically restarted after shutting down. Q2. Does ifconfig wol do anything? A2. On those of my computers with an on-board bge interface, "ifconfig bge0 wol" seems to make no difference at all. If I boot with the factory GENERIC kernel, then WOL_MAGIC is off by default, and this command does not enable = it. If I boot the bge-patched GENERIC kernel, then WOL_MAGIC is enabled by defa= ult, and it stays that way after an "ifconfig bge0 wol" with nothing new added either. Hence, again, this command seems to make no difference. On the Optiplex 7050 with no bge interface and an on-board em interface, "ifconfig em0 wol" enables WOL_MAGIC and some other WOL_ options. The uploaded files will show you all details about this. I stay away from FREEBSD-CURRENT, but if you see the bge interface on 14-CURRENT coming up by default without WOL_MAGIC and then "ifconfig bge0 w= ol" enables WOL_MAGIC, then there is already a significant difference between 14-RELEASE and 14-CURRENT. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Tue Apr 2 16:49:41 2024 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4V8DPg14k8z5Gyqj for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:49:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8DPf6CjRz4cV0 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:49:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1712076582; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=WYWmMpDDJ25zAyPwjdCl2tcrX8Nm9Ze1OEyPeedp+T7f1DdaenhOFxi5thgn02d92a+jVQ lnf85KaZtTHdE4YB1qWGiFEoijgp12bVyUWKyIFWF5jB7ziNSK8LF5/K4+t48JjmRFyfzO JSwakKOupn3qUhTWP+iTxFusQD5SmdcLidq84MA15NiiT+2TubGC+hXQXqVRAQYHSNVNtx YL2Lwg223uqud2fV+QBDsKziTmr9PojhdNWNF+q4RZ3A7wpuybYMCPZsCNG1HF2RAitdjD xLGKwBYgGL+aAGpq5k0tjgJRcq69IRYVcoh1adxrroTgIp5wJPe/yb8BXFSEKQ== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1712076582; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=zizL2/IMtoxUZZwN0qW3Li9fcKqN1tdgCnA1O0cTpfM=; b=e+Q8EybU8OJbkGBgUVaCerX86QgJbrDdqnINtzNPV6+cbgCd4WvmcHd7gQv7iZc3ZDTrbk mShIoTtoikO+0YGmDJsQx11SVQWGrUnTUrCZhQRKrSHxRAi6KnJMkS68GDpKPdpRy+NgjP Ex49DwuiiQU6sZrXcPxGeGWrphfcVlpRPJiK+sILuN1B04KWQPGMyqa4LtvVGtSi6uGKYV svOdbzbzEgLKKj9O6QfANrI/8wSS9Eubz78+gENJicMAZvyk3kITmDj34tARd42YFSVA2q rqcyVOyU3PjzjuFXNbHVDLAfh72l/iIM+SVxvTdImbmMtzZ+lUOTn8ImxlPR/w== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8DPf5pyTzx08 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:49:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 432GngMn071337 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:49:42 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 432Gng5c071331 for net@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 16:49:42 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 218579] bge(4): Wake on Lan (WoL) does not work Date: Tue, 02 Apr 2024 16:49:41 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable14+ mfc-stable13+ mfc-stable12? It should be enabled only after enabling it. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Tue Apr 2 19:28:29 2024 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4V8Hx00JXhz5FZwg for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 19:28:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8Hwz6KQlz4wch for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 19:28:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1712086115; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=JdZmnIVIdMEcKFz6igF6iW5bU3QlEXWWYVH5y0ckbqPXHUs62RfNgBFtsh9ja4Lq5WYiVw gVIDzS/8ctE9qN+Wfpbnee1UzoljsNyRkSe1x01mlXojizUegw7uioOxANgvVUD08rOtKv lAD5DawgOyniRF2mPSvKwnlzUZAMAkikdX7hyUljMFUrM7LpYwsfmJpNGTGC3T0pmP7k8X Cg0JG25JMfszDTdEhlLhUvz/w2qaeywXIJJGLFdBvnHXFruOq2fEoTafkO22X9bFk9EjQ1 Cc1A/1lfX6MerhfdZ7zo10dMFANZRxr2X5o1i6NXbC7z43Le6XMvviabN4PWjg== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1712086115; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=Tn2ChXNsfMyHUERFaEcEDjNo65LLTQ7azmwsln4NTUU=; b=TFSvFBxoo0Mjytq+klcYL+LlxOQJ7813DN4l0UPF8M0KBldpk6JzqSOxx1u9ooQRT9mYvc R5Ng2LTTjwcRYgAEJFrLw0XcHagJAlXHz8NEhqK9Hkji9oWDSf3OAqQ435nKicsticYhjC 0yzjGQ75DioAu7rQPdagz2bDwaS29Hp1XzayCzBASSdakJPOdU7Jk11xSzobJIMZLrL8AS xa+zkj8R17ZY2cy+WBLRFPCsjQPQzCW4R7c5YAg6DdWuoCIQltRqlHCEu51rm7b0nb2Ii/ +pAtE0RA1d+4k01ZfZxnjJEr1q6UN7uNQI2fXHfZ4z2KhSZmBlVFLH4gYk5D6w== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8Hwz5xNtz12bt for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 19:28:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 432JSZPG062025 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 19:28:35 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 432JSZgh062014 for net@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 19:28:35 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 218579] bge(4): Wake on Lan (WoL) does not work Date: Tue, 02 Apr 2024 19:28:29 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable14+ mfc-stable13+ mfc-stable12? To clarify, I was not talking about crashes either. You mention= ed that after a successful WOL, when you shut your computer down, it did not s= tay powered off, instead moments later it automatically started. That is an automated start-up you did not expect. In other words, unexpected. Again, I experienced no such phenomena. When I issued a "shutdown -p", my t= est computers always powered down properly and always stayed off. Regardless of= how they were started up in advance, manually by their power button or woken by magic packet. To further clarify, they also properly powered down and stayed turned off i= f I sent WOL magic packets to them while they were on, even if it was moments before "shutdown". However, I did not test the particular case when a WOL magic packet is sent= to the computer WHILE it is already in the process of shutting down. None of my tests were performed on -STABLE or -CURRENT branch. I only teste= d on -RELEASE. The experience now was the same on 13.3R and 14.0R. With my previ= ous set of tests, WOL only woke the computer if it was shut down from a bge-pac= hed 13.2R kernel, and did not wake it when it was shut down from a bge-patched 14.0R. In that sense, the latest patches are better. My problem was that the bge-based computer could not be woken up once it was powered down. With these patches, they wake up exactly as expected, on 13.3R and on 14.0R too. So the problem I had, is now fixed. I don't really care t= hat WOL_MAGIC is automatically enabled and that I do not need to run an "ifconf= ig bge0 wol". The em0 in my Optiplex does exactly the same. I would call THIS = the expected behaviour. Others may disagree. I can do more tests in May, if needed. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Tue Apr 2 21:49:58 2024 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4V8M495K3Lz5FqDL for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 21:50:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8M494GDxz59Kj for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 21:50:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1712094601; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=iupZZ98vrJpDVNA1hXs7P69swlvB7MUNZZZvSzEgz5RPoaxpyicPX8K1biRHULXI7uEHOi Dt24AJNaIZFfnGubZbJ7A7RdsGs3K2pfVIaMFL252J9cb/Dyx6m9HnyCWS/YqzfgUamGPj t8OnO9SCPnlCvZ+ktfkLsqg2JfSu1tped3NXpwidwKITm6xT/9MpZ4jM7p5vCpOCzRy4E1 s2TQPiqWVt4Tzk3JK75eaHpj2QbKjALvv19ygTepVZIhHN6rGNgMiG3T3ImNcHqU6GJlw2 /JO/OYqB6tXtdnNPmMtmRwOjYFDndIxFmtS7LWPMOmuqyhm20c25GfM5v0jJVA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1712094601; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=qHGqHEK4kdg2YmNUTeRjYWdJC/NZuH1kAtn2JQsg48E=; b=kR87U90n3EBGN7L4eZL9oGF7ihH+jdCODcl0elMjczP2TZ8QI1bEFmWhHVuf+hA/bbh/fZ 7xnMYe88KfhDi+PKzvftgm5vf9kb1SMHlrdIma9N3vS3G+18c2ymGmy8wqCwpJt3pKxr8d HauWka+OEtzxJMn/AN55J07UZdJfvWDigRW2hjxlAne8t9wXNfmRiad+OWY5SLzxxYbxsY 7VUjg7j/SMM6xvAP0prZvEaurwXckpeZVE9s/8LeucGmbpXjlVIYe+3SvGT5M0/LSHH2XY BJ9eWwevYvPSCGwU3i1S/sSF6TnMVkN7grf8+E/H4v7yPEFYo6QkaRzdd7SkCw== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4V8M493sxzz15xR for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 21:50:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 432Lo1An066684 for ; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 21:50:01 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 432Lo1RG066663 for net@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 2 Apr 2024 21:50:01 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 218579] bge(4): Wake on Lan (WoL) does not work Date: Tue, 02 Apr 2024 21:49:58 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: cy@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable14+ mfc-stable13+ mfc-stable12? This only happens on FreeBSD, while NetBSD, Linux, Solaris, etc. all seem to work correctly. I was hoping to get some advice on what could be the root cause. I have two processes - client and server, sending and receiving data to/from each other on 127.0.0.1 Client connects to server and calls send(2)/recv(2) in a loop. This is a bidirectional data exchange. When all send data is transferred, client calls shutdown(sockfd, SHUT_WR) and continues receiving data on the same socket until recv(2) returns 0 bytes, which signals end of receive data. At this stage client calls close(sockfd) and terminates. Server has the same data transfer loop as the client. I frequently get ECONNRESET when calling close(2), sometimes from the server and sometimes from the client process. This should not be happening, but I'm not sure what could be causing it. The client logic is as follows: 1. Set sockfd nonblocking. 2. Call send(2)/recv(2) in a loop until N bytes have been transferred in each direction. 3. Set sockfd blocking. 4. Call send_buf() to send control handshake to server. 5. Call shutdown(sockfd, SHUT_WR) to signal end of send data from client. 6. Call recv_buf() to receive control handshake from server. 7. Call recv_buf() and verify it returned 0 bytes to indicate end of data from server. 8. Call close(sockfd) and verify success. Step 8 sometimes fails and returns ECONNRESET. Functions send_buf() and recv_buf() are wrappers around send(2) and recv(2) which restart those system calls until the specified number of buffer bytes have been fully transferred or 0 is returned in the case of recv_buf() indicating end of data. They are designed to work with blocking file descriptors and avoid short reads/writes. I don't understand why close(2) sometimes returns ECONNRESET when the previous recv(2) call at step 7 returned 0 bytes, indicating the remote TCP end sent us a FIN. I don't set SO_LINGER socket option and when I checked the default on FreeBSD it reports l_onoff=0, l_linger=0 so there should be no immediate RST on socket close(2). Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks.
