Of course I cannot exclude it with 100% confidence. That said: _ host A has about 10 VPNs, only one is misbehaving, so I guess it's not ISP A; _ host B has an enterprise-grade contract, so they should not firewall anything; another one of the above VPNs connects to a different host which has the same type of contract with the same ISP and it works. Maybe it's the ISP or someone in between... I have no control over this. I'd like to exclude any local issue, about which I might actually do something. bye & Thanks av. It comes from a real issue found recently -- a specific= mix of kernel modules reveals a defect in the firewalls' behavior. The proposal is to provide a source of non-usual mbuf chains for the testing purposes in the scope of system/e2e type of tests. The idea is straightforward -- we could put another pfil(9) user in front o= f a firewall, which would alter a mbuf chain according to the given configuration before it hits a firewall. There is a working prototype, the current design of which is as follows: - A brand new module, dummymbuf, provides special pfil hooks. Such hooks are meant to be linked manually via pfilctl(8). - Newly added "net.dummymbuf.rules" sysctl is used for configuration, which is a list of rules applied sequentially. Each rule filters a packet by PFIL type (inet, inet6, ethernet), direction (in, out), and interface. Upon matching a specified operation is applied to a mbuf chain. Currently= , there is a single operation named "pull-head", which always allocates a new cluster in front of the chain and pulls a given number of bytes. Zero bytes pulled means to create a situation with the first mbuf of zero length. Non-matching packets are passed without modification. - It's designed to fail fast by dropping a packet in case of misconfiguration or other issues. - Additionally, there is "net.dummymbuf.hits" counter sysctl revealing the number of times any rule has been applied. It's expected to be used for extra checks to lower the chances of false positives if the module has defects or is misconfigured. - This is a VNET based solution. Parallel testing should be applicable. - A quick sneak peek to get use case intuition, for an atf-sh test case: pfilctl link -i dummymbuf:inet inet sysctl net.dummymbuf.rules=3D'inet in epair0b pull-head 0;' atf_check_equal "0" "$(sysctl -n net.dummymbuf.hits)" atf_check -s exit:0 -o ignore ping -c1 192.0.2.2 atf_check_equal "1" "$(sysctl -n net.dummymbuf.hits)" It would be very appreciated to hear opinions and suggestions. There may be high level organizational questions like whether it should hit the base or should be part of the test suite only, and so on. The WIP patch: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D45928 The usage example: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D45927 Best regards, Igor. Hi Everyone.

While adding -F ( fib as used in netstat ) to ping and ping6 I have found something that from my understanding is not correct.
Please can you advise?

I have the following setup :

-- two fibs (0 and 1)
-- two  loop-backs (lo0 and lo1).
-- Lo1 has been assigned to fib1
-- net.add_addr_allfibs = 0

My interface output looks like this:

ifconfig lo0 | grep inet6
       inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128
       inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x2

ifconfig lo1 | grep inet6
       inet6 fe80::1%lo1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x3

If I do a netstat -rn -6  -F0 I get the following which is was i expected.

Internet6:
Destination                       Gateway                       Flags     Netif Expire
::/96                             link#2                        URS         lo0
::1                               link#2                        UHS         lo0
::ffff:0.0.0.0/96                 link#2                        URS         lo0
fe80::%lo0/10                     link#2                        URS         lo0
fe80::%lo0/64                     link#2                        U           lo0
fe80::1%lo0                       link#2                        UHS         lo0
ff02::/16                         link#2                        URS         lo0

Now,  netstat -rn -6  -F1 shows  "fe80::1%lo0" which should not be there and "fe80::1%lo1" is missing which should be there.

Internet6:
Destination                       Gateway                       Flags     Netif Expire
fe80::%lo1/64                     link#3                        U           lo1
fe80::1%lo0                       link#2                        UHS         lo0

What output I was expecting was:

Internet6:
Destination                       Gateway                       Flags     Netif Expire
fe80::%lo1/64                     link#3                        U           lo1
fe80::1%lo1                       link#3                        UHS         lo1

This makes the ping -6 -F0 fe80::1%lo0  to work but ping -6 -F1 fe80::1%l01 to fail which I wanted to use as test case.

Thanks in advance.

Santiago
