However when ice_rss.h is included by ice_lib.h there is no prior inclusion of ice_opts.h to set RSS causing ifdef RSS to always fail. Add ice_opts.h to the top of ice_lib.h (like ice_iflib.h) so RSS can be defined when ice_rss.h is parsed. With that in place, compilation fails due to a missing defintion of ICE_DEFAULT_RSS_HASH_CONFIG. It is defined in ice_rss.h only when RSS is not defined. Since this define is not part of the kernel RSS interface but ice-specific, it should always be defined. Move its definition outside of ifdef RSS. We've been digging into an interesting possible issue in = the FreeBSD NFS client. Here is the scenario. I have a FreeBSD VM on my= Mac, the Mac is the NFS server, the VM is the client. I then attempt to= build an out of tree kernel module that I'm working on. The build looks= like it's hanging for 1.5 seconds, and when we look at the packets (pcap= file attached) we see a ton of GETATTRs over the first 1.5 seconds. I'v= e put the pcap up here: oct_8_2024.pcapng

I also note that an issue was raised on the forums that s= eems similar, way back between FreeBSD 10 and 11:

https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/nfs-cache-misses-after-upgrading-to-1= 1-1-from-10-3.65491/

I'm seeing this on 15 currentish (last few months).

Best,
George

All I can tell you is that the GETATTRs all check directories (at least all the ones I looked at). They all appear to be different directories. Btw, if you have not already done so, look at the packet trace in wireshark= . It actually knows how to decode NFS. rick > > I suspect it is from this line in sys/conf/config.mk: > > __MPATH!=3Dfind ${SYSDIR:tA}/ -name \*_if.m > > This is running a find command over all of sys/, so it'll stat about > 35000 files. We use NFS in our work on kernel development because we develo= p on VMs to start. Other than this pause, world builds on a modern (M3) l= aptop are as fast on an average server (hurray SoCs) and when the thing c= rashes it reboots in seconds, rather than 10 minutes which is how long a = modern Dell server takes to do its hardware checks. The shorter answer from some folks is "use 9pfs because NFS (server) on M= acOS is sloooow" which I'll look into as well.
