However, since I was using the STABLE version for my jail, I have lost all the packages I have built on several occasions. It seems to happen when the value returned by the uname -KU of the jail changes. It seems that poudriere-pkgclean is the only other way to get rid of packages that can no longer be traced from the port tree. If the package directory is not cleaned of unnecessary packages, poudriere-bulk creates a repository that also contains the packages. In fact, my poudriere repository includes llvm70-7.0.1_8.pkg and seamonkey-2.49.4_27.pkg. Also, if the package name is the same but the version is different, it seems to be a repository that has no problem providing it. I have such a rule of thumb :) Regards. Each of them affects `uname -KU`. And possibly, not sure actually which is, something in toolchains are changed (not all changes affects). I think poudriere would be better ignoring last 3 (at least 2) digits of __FreeBSD_version for stable, releng and release branches, as API/KPI (not ABI/KBI, unfortunately) are basically assured to be downward compatible within each of those branches. FYI: I have a small script to list all pakcages installed, excluding *ports marked as deleted (no successor specified) in MOVED. *ports origin (can specify flavor) to igonore listed in BLOCKLIST variable in the script at brew.bsd.cafe repo [1]. With the list generated by the script, you can ignore huge LEAVES like www/chromium to be ignored to build. See the README.md there for details. There are five open bugs for ports failing to build with LLVM_BINUTILS: 1. PR270421 graphics/librsvg2-rust This needs to be fixed in the port -- it combines ports LLVM with base system nm / ar, and they're not compatible for LTO. 2. PR270962 sysutils/stressdisk This is an issue in llvm-strip - https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/53999. For FreeBSD ports the short-term workaround is probably to have it use GNU binutils instead 3. PR270963 textproc/sxml The PR has a patch that addresses the issue, but has some issues that need to be addressed before being committed. 4. PR278172 lang/racket* 5. PR278895 lang/ghc It's not clear to me what's happening for these two. Likely switch to GNU binutils for them. > - Switch to LLVM tools by default > - Major release (14.0) This clearly did not happen for FreeBSD 14.0, but I plan to do this before 15.0. > - Retire knob, leaving only the LLVM implementation. The knob would remain in place for at least one release; this will not happen before 16.0. This time, if anything, we'd like to need an event where all packages are lost in order to clean up the packages of py39-* that are no longer needed. How does it go in the official repository? >From here, it changed to another part... My poudriere had BUILD_ALL_PYTHON_FLAVORS defined in make.conf to allow multimedia/openshot to work with all versions of python. If it is removed, non-default flavors will only be ignored, and packages that have already been made will not be deleted. [00:01:45] Ignoring multimedia/openshot@py310 | openshot-py310-3.1.1_3: Unknown flavor 'py310', possible flavors: py311 [00:01:45] Ignoring multimedia/openshot@py38 | openshot-py38-3.1.1_3: Unknown flavor 'py38', possible flavors: py311 [00:01:45] Ignoring multimedia/openshot@py39 | openshot-py39-3.1.1_3: Unknown flavor 'py39', possible flavors: py311 I just had multimedia/openshot for py38, py39, and py311, so I also experimented with upgrading python. The approximate steps are as follows: ( cd /packages/Latest/ && pkg add pkg.pkg ) pkg update pkg install openshot-py38 sh -c 'for i in $(pkg query -g %n "py38-*") ; do pkg set -y -n "${i}:py39-${i#py38-}" ; done' pkg upgrade pkg install blender pkg delete blender pkg autoremove sh -c 'for i in $(pkg query -g %n "py39-*") ; do pkg set -y -n "${i}:py311-${i#py39-}" ; done' pkg upgrade pkg install blender This procedure did not reproduce the same issue. It may also be that it is not just a matter of sorting. One additional thing that bothered me was that the py310 package is still installed. It may be that the renaming by pkg-set rewrites the names of packages like USES=python:-3.10 to py311, so they cannot be found in the repository. Again, this is just speculation on my part. I still can't think of a way to look into it. And it is not possible to prepare an experimental environment... 12.4-STABLE disposal is far away :) Regards. My poudriere had BUILD_ALL_PYTHON_FLAVORS defined in make.conf to allow multimedia/openshot to work with all versions of python.
If it is removed, non-default flavors will only be ignored, and packages that have already been made will not be deleted.

maybe have a look on:
man poudriere-pkgclean

I use this command to e.g. remove obsolete package (dependecy removed) of if I update my list of packages pouriere is building.

I use the command like:
poudriere pkgclean -y -f pkglist -j 141amd64

Jan ----- Forwarded message from Jan Stary ----- Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2024 20:22:36 +0200 From: Jan Stary To: sox-devel@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [SoX-devel] call for testers Reply-To: sox-devel@lists.sourceforge.net Dear fellow users of SoX, I would like to kindly ask you to test a build system for SoX: the 'build' branch at https://github.com/janstary/sox/tree/build On the surface it is the same: ./configure && make (see INSTALL). On the inside, it is a complete overhaul. Branching from Mans's latest commit (the spectrogram fix), it consists of about 100 commits, should you want to read the whole story; here is the gist of it. It replaces the GNU auto* system with a simple, hand-written ./configure script, a straightforward Makefile, and a set of have-*.c micro-programs testing the availability of libraries. It "borrows" heavily (in fact, steals with love) from Ingo Schwarze's build system for the mandoc package. This has no dependency on anything besides sh(1) and cc(1). The main point is to get rid of the GNU autotools monster: Do we have strlen()? Can be included? What of "gcc -v"? POSIX.1 came out more than fifteen years ago; all modern systems are close to that and we should be coding against that standard. Functionaly, this system detects the optional external formats and audio drivers the current autotools system tries to detect, but correctly, much faster, using elementary tools, and actualy respecting the results. The single exception is waveaudio, as I have no windows machine. A big change in the resulting build is this no longer builds or install libsox the library, as opposed to sox the binary. SoX itself seems to be the only user of that library. Looking into the entire collection of ports and packages of all the system below, I have found _two_ things using it. (Not to be confused with libsoxr, the resampling library extracted from sox by Rob Sykes, maintainer at the time.) Details in https://github.com/janstary/sox/issues/43 Another change is the dynamic loading of libraries with dlopen(), which I have completely dropped. Either have the library at build and link against it, or don't, like everyone else. (But libltdl is not completely gone, because the ladspa plugins need it.) Like gsm some years ago, the lpc codec is made an optional, external dependecy, as opposed the carrying a copy of its entire implementation. If you care about LPC as a format, look at https://github.com/janstary/lpc for a separate lib; note that the original LPC code (as opposed to the bundled subdir) has just been made available, upon asking, by the original author: https://github.com/jafingerhut/lpc10 While here, I have also done some cleaning, but nothing that would change SoX's actual audio behaviour. I have removed struct timeb, obsoleted ages ago and not even used here, the homegrown strcasecmp(), #ifdef HAVE_STDINT_H and other ancient cruft. See the git log for the lolz. I have been running and testing this for some time on OpenBSD/current (amd64, i386, arm64, armv7, powerpc, octeon) FreeBSD 14.1 (amd64) NetBSD 10.0 (amd64) macOS 14.5 (M1 MacBook Air) Debian 13.2 trixie (amd64) Solaris (SunOS 5.11) and everything I could test seems to work. That is to say, the build of sox and the detection of external libs as optional extra formats and drivers works; the actual audio signal processing code, which has its own problems, has not been touched. During all that, going through the individual formats, I have also reviewed the soxi(1) and soxformat(7) manpages, untouched for a decade, and synced them with reality, refactoring a bit, and rewriting in mdoc(7) not man(7). Please read them. (The monstrous sox(1) is for later.) Please test on every system you use SoX on. Please test the detection of every audio format and effect and driver you care about (or, better yet, test them all). If anything doesn't work as expected, please report here or open an issue: https://github.com/janstary/sox/issues Thank you, Jan ----- End forwarded message ----- _______________________________________________ SoX-devel mailing list SoX-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/sox-devel ----- End forwarded message ----- ----- End forwarded message ----- From nobody Tue Jun 11 23:16:19 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-ports@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4VzPgl27Dfz5NCrm for ; In this case, I think the problem with residual unnecessary packages can be solved by using poudriere pkgclean -j jail -a. However, using -a takes a significant amount of time. So, we can filter the origin of the port to only what we need and run it... Matthias Fechner wrote on 2024/06/11 15:43: > I use the command like: > poudriere pkgclean -y -f pkglist -j 141amd64 It seems to me that this pkglist should include build-time dependent ports in addition to the required ports. The loss of rust, which is not dependent on at runtime, would be a huge loss of time :) Changing the subject, what are the ports of python that will exist in py39 flavor but not in py311 flavor? When it was decided to change the default version of python to 3.11, it seems that this problem was also solved. Regards. It does not include dependencies that pkg marks as automatically installed. poudriere is clever enough to handle that automatically for you. If you need a little more background, here is my work-sheet for poudriere: https://wiki.idefix.fechner.net/freebsd/poudriere/ there you can see, how I setup my package building and how I use it, there is also an example how the pkglist can look like (but that is customized to my personal needs). So include in your pkglist only the ports you require for your servers (this also reduces the build-time, as you normally do not need all packages build). I use the command like:
poudriere pkgclean -y -f pkglist -j 141amd64
It seems to me that this pkglist should include build-time dependent ports in addition to the required ports.
The loss of rust, which is not dependent on at runtime, would be a huge loss of time 🙂

Changing the subject, what are the ports of python that will exist in py39 flavor but not in py311 flavor?
When it was decided to change the default version of python to 3.11, it seems that this problem was also solved.

User can in-app update obsidian. If the package building team already blacklisted devel/electron25 to circumvent interference, why not keep it that way? Historically, ports tree was for the users, not for the package building team.  It worked well like two decades for both parties, but the last two years there were many ports killed for no reason, resp. by completely meaningless justifications like 'it's old' - there haven't been new upstream commits for years. There is the BROKEN variable for the reason that even non perfectly working ports can be kept in the tree to be discovered by fellows having time to fix it.  Erasing work which people already invested to create a port is for no benefit to anybody/anything. Let it up to the users' decision how they want to deal with 'pkg audit' results. There are people running FreeBSD offline - because FreeBSD can be kept offline easily and it's easy to run your own package building environment - even installing ports without building packages still is an option today. The new habit of ports tree cleanup does harm that outstanding FreeBSD feature and just boosts the disadvantage over Linux that we don't have applications available which are available on Linux. I vote for needing explicit maintainer approval before anyone is allowed to remove any ports from the tree. If the current maintainer isn't responding or a specific port doesn't have a maintainer, the users' should have a veto option at least. Act just like C compilers does SHALL be how programming language processing system do. Even llvm/clang 18 can compile/link and run K&R sources. This is how SHALL be. If electron30 can build everything written in electron25 sanely, at worst with an option to specify language version, there should be no problems. No worries. Just switching BUILD_DEPENDS to the latest supported stable version (with modifying build options) is sufficient. If not, I can't call electron* as a proper programming language processing system. But for interpreters, preparing binaries for older version based on the latest code can be an option. -- Tomoaki AOKI From nobody Sun Jun 16 13:54:24 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-ports@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4W2Dz118N6z5NrFs for ; Sun, 16 Jun 2024 13:54:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from xaque208@gmail.com) Received: from mail-wr1-x42b.google.com (mail-wr1-x42b.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:4864:20::42b]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "WR4" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4W2Dyz5WtTz463g for ; Sun, 16 Jun 2024 13:54:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from xaque208@gmail.com) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=pass header.d=gmail.com header.s=20230601 header.b=ZYqeUUoh; dmarc=pass (policy=none) header.from=gmail.com; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of xaque208@gmail.com designates 2a00:1450:4864:20::42b as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=xaque208@gmail.com Received: by mail-wr1-x42b.google.com with SMTP id ffacd0b85a97d-35f090093d8so2893046f8f.0 for ; Sun, 16 Jun 2024 06:54:35 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20230601; t=1718546074; x=1719150874; darn=freebsd.org; h=to:subject:message-id:date:from:mime-version:from:to:cc:subject :date:message-id:reply-to; bh=v78rIAlYE9l1+Lxj99GO6uJayvINwIFn63ZyDr0aMDs=; b=ZYqeUUohwTnehWznvqLLXBKDtg1Ad12KkMGcsJ/onrRSDXSVoxyhXqgWKpG8rvGXBG LbD2xcOOfC4+vo0536pWvIdsDPK3OyUldK4fmek8wSbF/rhiA4FdmUAwmtBdl4SMt14s 5uev59dsZuzuPnIaWMPqmrFhNdjQQIZ4lXu9/tR6NjHIuNxzLdddE6IclrAwdgC3Ml2z UoXLZwxzDGGRbgGul6LEGswEWWDpRpQSFLrY14Dv7lDDqA/99uklIRAHrUox7cNsdC/O boWyxWEmyCmL6PItVwuSLEhWhXagnhGosPHAUkzYo4eoio1GCZnmZkaQJJSP/XjQKrQP W6/Q== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20230601; t=1718546074; x=1719150874; h=to:subject:message-id:date:from:mime-version:x-gm-message-state :from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id:reply-to; bh=v78rIAlYE9l1+Lxj99GO6uJayvINwIFn63ZyDr0aMDs=; b=WuI8Tuakgf2Zae07Ny/LoiKeqaopX1S6NY92kjltySeZQ9I7bi72gooRvUWdBISkYJ ESn+q8mIKRIQ5N/eq3S7WYmzvPoHOb6/ZzoZzSBevbvTCoqwnOW9SLsf5yWSxE+PGb6J 8/mEQK2De8cV+OyyhXTi8Oua5LSEc5O1FiA5SR8A3a4NoOAf7kuVneLWAUE/A9i3Rnx3 GwGnHBV67+xbl7BocPrVqU8IjnNiM+nMkvBCYueaHoG6LKm2ZYzR+5e4rwrfos+oRKl7 m4kpJOY2xms5pOyb09ikTJMD1UQTbb8RSXxNWWg8KAVtuShF6ATtnW51fjVyjvvuKOpv N7OA== X-Gm-Message-State: AOJu0YwbnwbesKrsHO/Ksf80p+Yxv8zUIftADpZ0kGMoWefKKUUp+op6 7ME9ccvpXD3LDmBa6fSTXq3JC1c/AedOKyTp7nGFQiuacBwzd+tcLAt/aikHL7VHhJstWibanT5 wloZSzP9yH5EjnAOY8MtLJz2wTWU9ig== X-Google-Smtp-Source: AGHT+IHHxumEKSkPxAivG+rZqAGWbxJMMvj8XGLEkk+lRGAHe9D/CI6gz54CZ/da7ijLqLBlwPJOV/ndbNycYfcpT+4= X-Received: by 2002:adf:efce:0:b0:35f:2547:6be6 with SMTP id ffacd0b85a97d-3607a739ea3mr5793497f8f.21.1718546073713; Sun, 16 Jun 2024 06:54:33 -0700 (PDT) List-Id: Porting software to FreeBSD List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-ports List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-BeenThere: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Sender: owner-freebsd-ports@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 From: Zach Leslie Date: Sun, 16 Jun 2024 13:54:24 +0000 Message-ID: Subject: Request for review/commit To: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="0000000000004101b1061b023067" X-Spamd-Bar: --- X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-3.67 / 15.00]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-1.00)[-0.999]; DMARC_POLICY_ALLOW(-0.50)[gmail.com,none]; HFILTER_URL_ONLY(0.33)[0.14814814814815]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+ip6:2a00:1450:4000::/36]; R_DKIM_ALLOW(-0.20)[gmail.com:s=20230601]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[multipart/alternative,text/plain]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; RCVD_TLS_LAST(0.00)[]; RCPT_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+,1:+,2:~]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; FREEMAIL_ENVFROM(0.00)[gmail.com]; FREEMAIL_FROM(0.00)[gmail.com]; DKIM_TRACE(0.00)[gmail.com:+]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; DWL_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[gmail.com:dkim]; PREVIOUSLY_DELIVERED(0.00)[freebsd-ports@freebsd.org]; TO_DN_NONE(0.00)[]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; MISSING_XM_UA(0.00)[]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROMTLD(0.00)[]; ASN(0.00)[asn:15169, ipnet:2a00:1450::/32, country:US]; MLMMJ_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-ports@freebsd.org]; RCVD_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; RCVD_IN_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[2a00:1450:4864:20::42b:from] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4W2Dyz5WtTz463g --0000000000004101b1061b023067 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=279042 Good day, I'd like to get some eyes on the above for commit.
