At that time there were some discussions about the removal date but so far it was found that with pcre2 is slower compared to pcre and hence it will take a longer time than expected to move on to pcre2. Hence it was decided to mark pcre as deprecated but without any expiration date. Which means that porters will look into possibility if their ports support pcre2 by upstream without any performance loss and if so they should utilize pcre2 instead of pcre1. So far my experience despite being deprecated it is a long time till it will come to end to be removed from the tree. To conclude to answer your question check upstream if they support it otherwise the ports are safe. This was a long time ago. After www/seamonkey was removed, there were libraries or FreeBSD updates that needed to be patched to build SeaMonkey. That patch was provided for Firefox. Since SeaMonkey had exactly the same contents, the patch changes could be applied as is, but the patch file could not be used directly because the file path was one level different. There were two possible ways to solve this: either by editing the patch before the patch phase to create an extra-patch, or by creating a do-patch target with a different WRKSRC. I adopted the latter and wrote a target in make.conf that looks like the following fragment. FX_EXTRA_PATCHES=\ ${.CURDIR}/../../www/firefox/files/patch-bug1575876\ ${.CURDIR}/../../www/firefox/files/patch-bug1594027 post-patch: .NOTMAIN .PHONY extra-patch-fx extra-patch-fx: .NOTMAIN .PHONY @${SETENV} \ dp_BZCAT="${BZCAT}" \ ︙ dp_EXTRA_PATCHES="${FX_EXTRA_PATCHES}" \ ︙ dp_PATCH_WRKSRC="${PATCH_WRKSRC}/mozilla" \ ︙ ${SH} ${SCRIPTSDIR}/do-patch.sh ︙ means omission, which is the same as do-patch. The reason why I have been able to rebuild seamonkey-2.49.4_27 of the port so easily these days is because of these modifications :) Does this silly episode do any good? :) Regards. Anyway, this situation is likely encountered by very few people, like me, who have been using ZFS on root for over 10 years, before bsdinstall added support for ZFS on root. Go helpfully downloads a Go 1.22 toolchain and tries to use that to build the package, which fails as the distfiles are not executable. We should avoid this scenario by setting GOTOOLCHAIN=local in the environment when building Go ports. This forces Go to always use the installed Go toolchain instead of trying to download a different one. See https://go.dev/doc/toolchain#select for how this mechanism works. As a maintainer, you should set USES=go:1.22 when this happens, forcing the Go toolchain to at least 1.22. I'm puzzled to why this doesn't get extracted to WRKDIR, and executed there? Or is it because the downloaded toolchain is not an archive, but a bare executable itself? If so, I'd expect it still to be copied to WRKDIR before execution. Hi,

Once up= on a time portmgr@ decided to gradually move on to pcre2 as pcre1

S= o far my experience despite being deprecated it is a long time till it
