Do you have either of these lines in your /etc/rc.conf? (Having either one of them should be sufficient to ensure rpcbind is started before the mount is attempted.) rpcbind_enable=3D"YES" nfs_client_enable=3D"YES" If you have at least one of these in your /etc/rc.conf, then all I can thin= k of is some sort of network/routing issue that interferes with rpcbind worki= ng. You can also look at the output of: # rpcinfo once it is booted, to see that rpcbind seems correctly configured. It should be attached to tcp, tcp6, udp, udp6 and /var/run/rpcbind.sock. rick > > /etc/fstab has the following > > 10.1.1.102:/usr/src /usr/src nfs rw,readahead=3D16,late 0 0 > > Logging in, the nfs share is mounted normally. > -- > From nobody Fri Jun 28 00:45:21 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-stable@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4W9Gtq1G35z5NnDw for ; Fri, 28 Jun 2024 00:45:23 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cperciva@freebsd.org) Received: from mail.tarsnap.com (mail.tarsnap.com [54.86.246.204]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 4W9Gtp2srdz42LQ for ; Fri, 28 Jun 2024 00:45:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cperciva@freebsd.org) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=fail reason="No valid SPF, No valid DKIM" header.from=freebsd.org (policy=none); spf=softfail (mx1.freebsd.org: 54.86.246.204 is neither permitted nor denied by domain of cperciva@freebsd.org) smtp.mailfrom=cperciva@freebsd.org Received: (qmail 43063 invoked from network); 28 Jun 2024 00:45:21 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO framework.daemonology.net) (127.0.0.1) by mail.tarsnap.com with SMTP; 28 Jun 2024 00:45:21 -0000 Received: (qmail 46107 invoked from network); 28 Jun 2024 00:45:21 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO ?127.0.0.1?) I noticed 13.4 is scheduled to be released September 3rd, whereas 13.3 landed March 5th. Is it true minor point releases come out roughly once per year per major release branch? 13.3 landed 11 months after 13.2 for example? Why only 6 months this time between 13.3 and 13.4? This does not disrupt my usage at all. Just wondering. There are more issues but for stable/13 : while http://ftp3.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/snapshots/ISO-IMAGES/13.3/ is populated with 2024-Jun-28 and 2024-Jun-20 materials, Fri, 21 Jun 2024's: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-snapshots/2024-June/000418.html says: 20240613 f9ac06af3b2d That is just like the earlier: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-snapshots/2024-June/000416.html that really was for that 13 Jun 2024 date. === Mark Millard marklmi at yahoo.com From nobody Sat Jun 29 06:59:00 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-stable@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4WB37q0FDXz5QZv0 for ; We've had some issues with building snapshots (some of them long-standing issues and some introduced while I debug the release building process -- between releases is when I get to hack on this code) but I don't know how any of them would result in the same email going out twice. We used to have 3 weekly snapshots on the ftp servers but that got cut down to 2 because some of the mirrors were running out of disk space. (I'll bump it back up to 3 when the cluster admins tell me there's enough disk space.) > Well, https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-snapshots/2024-June/000422.html > now exists and claims "stable/14 (20240628 9a53391b601d)". However, > > http://ftp3.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/snapshots/ISO-IMAGES/14.1/ > > is still empty. Ok, this is just me being stupid. The stable/14 snapshots were completely broken two weeks ago (you'll note no snapshot email for stable/14 went out that week) and I disabled the command to rsync the snapshots for 14.x since I didn't want to push broken bits out to the mirrors. And then I forgot to turn it back on again until now. Thanks for pointing this out! It's too late for this week's bits (I've wiped them from the builder to make space for another build-process-debugging build) but it should be fixed for next week. Sorry about the mess. I'm hoping to have everything building smoothly soon; the last thing I'm trying to deal with is some hard-to-reproduce breakage when installworlding into many VM images simultaneously. -- Colin Percival FreeBSD Release Engineering Lead & EC2 platform maintainer Founder, Tarsnap | www.tarsnap.com | Online backups for the truly paranoid From nobody Sat Jun 29 10:17:55 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-stable@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4WB7Y64hNCz5Mn9R for ; I need you help in configuring lightdm for autologin on FreeBSD 14.1. The handbook does not explain how to do it, and only mentions that a greeter is not required in case of autologin: I therefore found no better method than following the ArchLinux instruction about enabling autologin: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LightDM#Enabling_autologin with the necessary correction for FreeBSD differences in tools and paths. Since it had no effect, i.e. I still was promtped for login and password by the greeter, I tried to move pam out of the way and relaxed some tests in /usr/ local/etc/pam.d/lighdm-autologin.so: auth required pam_env.so auth sufficient pam_permit.so account sufficient pam_permit.so But autologin does not occur, anyway, lightdm.log showing this warning: Failed to get list of logind seats: GDbus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.login1 was not provided by any .service files and a failed attempt to autologin: pid=1533: Started with service 'lightd-autologin', username '' pid=1533: Exited with return value 1 Session: Failed during authentification But why? How can I troubleshoot it? This was on two of my systems. My lo0 config is standard: mote 20 % ifconfig lo0 lo0: flags=1008049 metric 0 mtu 16384 options=680003 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x2 groups: lo nd6 options=21 What's different on the two problematic systems is that they are authoritative nameservers. Following best practices, I use the (bind) server for authoritative queries and unbound for recursive resolver duties. The way I did this was to configure unbound to listen on 127.0.0.2 and then change /etc/resolv.conf to use "nameserver 127.0.0.2". (Which reminds me of another 14.X breakage -- unbound is no longer able to provide me with authoritative sshfp records!) For 14.1 at least, this has the side effect that the source address for anything in the 127.0.0.0/8 domain becomes 127.0.0.2 instead of 127.0.0.1. Given a host that has unbound listening on 127.0.0.2: mote 133 # lsof -np `cat /usr/local/etc/unbound/unbound.pid` | fgrep domain unbound 39496 unbound 3u IPv4 0xfffff8001ee56000 0 UDP 127.0.0.2:domain->*:* unbound 39496 unbound 4u IPv4 0xfffff80037c2ea80 0 TCP 127.0.0.2:domain->*:* (LISTEN) you can see this with the iperf3 port. Start the server side with: iperf3 -s 127.0.0.1 and connect using: iperf3 -c 127.0.0.1 The server session will report: Accepted connection from 127.0.0.2, port 37306 I believe my configuration is far enough off the well-traveled path that I'm the first to notice this. But there are definitely some programs (e.g. sendmail/opendkim which appears to sign messages from 127.0.0.1 but not from 127.0.0.2!) that are hardwired to know about 127.0.0.1 and deal with it specially/differently... So far, I've= not > had to ctl-C or ctl-D to get past it. Once booted up, the nfs shares are > available and writable. It doesn't affect the actual mount. An NFSv3 mount is "stateless", which me= ans the NFS server doesn't even know it exists and does not need to know. Sun came up with junk that tries to indicate what is NFS mounted using the Mount protocol (think mountd on the server). The rpc.umntall command is executed by /etc/rc.d/nfsclient and all it does is tell the server to clean= up this mount junk (only used by things like "showmount" and not NFS itself). Bottom line..it is just al little irritating and might slow down booting a = bit. Why is it happening? Don't really know, but it indicates that the client cannot talk to the NFS server at the point in booting when /etc/rc.d/nfscli= ent is executed. You can: # cd /etc; rcorder rc.conf rc.d/* and the output shows you what order the scripts in /etc/rc.d get executed. Since "nfsclient" is after NETWORKING, it should work? > > The nfs server is 14-stable and the exported dir is zfs with the sharenfs= property set. > The client (14.1-p1) is a VM on a different machine but the same network. > > I'll try putting rpcbind_enable=3DYES in /etc/rc.conf Probably won't make any difference. rick > -- > From nobody Sun Jun 30 20:03:09 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-stable@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4WC0Tz30T2z5QNjj for ; Sun, 30 Jun 2024 20:03:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsd-stable@m.gmane-mx.org) Received: from ciao.gmane.io (ciao.gmane.io [116.202.254.214]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange ECDHE (P-256) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4WC0Ty1yYCz4jv9 for ; Sun, 30 Jun 2024 20:03:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsd-stable@m.gmane-mx.org) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=fail reason="SPF not aligned (relaxed), No valid DKIM" header.from=gmail.com (policy=none); spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of freebsd-stable@m.gmane-mx.org designates 116.202.254.214 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=freebsd-stable@m.gmane-mx.org Received: from list by ciao.gmane.io with local (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1sO0lX-000ARf-BC for freebsd-stable@freebsd.org; Sun, 30 Jun 2024 22:03:15 +0200 X-Injected-Via-Gmane: http://gmane.org/ To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org From: Anton Shepelev Subject: Re: Setting up lightdm for autologin Date: Sun, 30 Jun 2024 23:03:09 +0300 Message-ID: <20240630230309.8f9db6bd292950cbf1ff3ff5@gmail.com> References: <20240630013629.5e2a77141763f28ad51be4a9@gmail.com> <75222de0-b288-4973-8add-e032548fed4d@chen.org.nz> List-Id: Production branch of FreeBSD source code List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-stable List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-BeenThere: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Sender: owner-freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Newsreader: Sylpheed 3.7.0 (GTK+ 2.24.30; i686-pc-mingw32) X-Spamd-Bar: + X-Spamd-Result: default: False [1.83 / 15.00]; NEURAL_SPAM_LONG(1.00)[1.000]; NEURAL_SPAM_MEDIUM(1.00)[0.997]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-0.87)[-0.865]; MV_CASE(0.50)[]; FORGED_SENDER(0.30)[antontxt@gmail.com,freebsd-stable@m.gmane-mx.org]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+mx]; DMARC_POLICY_SOFTFAIL(0.10)[gmail.com : SPF not aligned (relaxed), No valid DKIM,none]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; ONCE_RECEIVED(0.10)[]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; FREEMAIL_FROM(0.00)[gmail.com]; RCVD_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; RCPT_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; MISSING_XM_UA(0.00)[]; ASN(0.00)[asn:24940, ipnet:116.202.0.0/16, country:DE]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; MLMMJ_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-stable@freebsd.org]; FROM_NEQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[antontxt@gmail.com,freebsd-stable@m.gmane-mx.org]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROM(0.00)[]; TO_DN_NONE(0.00)[]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; TAGGED_FROM(0.00)[]; RCVD_TLS_LAST(0.00)[]; ARC_NA(0.00)[] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4WC0Ty1yYCz4jv9 Jonathan Chen: > > I need you help in configuring lightdm for autologin on > > FreeBSD 14.1. I fixed the problem by regenerating the lightdm pam.d rules: cd /usr/local/etc/pam.d cp lightdm.sample lightdm cp lightdm-autologin.sample lightdm-autologin Can any lightdm users /not/ using autologin please compare their .sample files with the corresponding actual ones perhaps to find what the cultprit was? The lightdm package in my cache has only .sample files, and I think the isntaller does not generate the actual files by simply copy of the .samples.
