I know, but this was the easiest "fix" for this, I could think off... Especially whilest we are waiting for an updated version in ports/pkgs. That does things like they used to. And with mac_portacl(4) you need to consider IF you have any other ports < 1024 in use. Since they will possibly now be covered by MAC protection. (like snmp or others) Lots of ways those can be overruled, like security.mac.portacl.suser_exempt. So good reason to read the man pages before you load. --WjW From nobody Mon Sep 23 14:13:26 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-stable@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4XC4jD6hcnz52Kyw for ; Mon, 23 Sep 2024 14:13:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from SRS0=J+Uu=QV=quip.cz=000.fbsd@elsa.codelab.cz) Received: from elsa.codelab.cz (elsa.codelab.cz [94.124.105.4]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4XC4jD4HfFz48Wd; Mon, 23 Sep 2024 14:13:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from SRS0=J+Uu=QV=quip.cz=000.fbsd@elsa.codelab.cz) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; none Received: from elsa.codelab.cz (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by elsa.codelab.cz (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8F105D7891; Mon, 23 Sep 2024 16:13:27 +0200 (CEST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=quip.cz; s=private; t=1727100807; bh=P3DWTqZaLXhjd/jEZ6cPn6cllp1av3vQsZngxNIO5L4=; h=Date:Subject:To:References:From:In-Reply-To; b=sQGSzW4n7HG9UvXmLcZZmcy35U2EN+3mIWZv4+IfMUafLZomqkwViIvz9wC1uqBBf FmhiRJaEqB974vZq7aN0B8XiYM1K++o6fI3giWxyCT4yXuLsEErgiY/lnzqprs7NnU 5NoL6zlTT3RaT7hay79dimRq093omUy997TqJ15s= Received: from [192.168.145.49] (ip-89-177-27-225.bb.vodafone.cz [89.177.27.225]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by elsa.codelab.cz (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 89B76D7888; Mon, 23 Sep 2024 16:13:26 +0200 (CEST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=quip.cz; s=private; t=1727100806; bh=P3DWTqZaLXhjd/jEZ6cPn6cllp1av3vQsZngxNIO5L4=; h=Date:Subject:To:References:From:In-Reply-To; b=gLDxIzdW5njbZpR3Az/HWzWoCvROfMrP9veV57Lu1Kl1l3nALprQoat4jjiFZmKBq XyHE/6aOLLxNtxdEXZuUIDELzPYHcOAhadqHOxYOJylaJXMmR+1R1UibAtHslqppRH yPnSI2+IoJ0EXe/hrZu9ZBMCFsKveBsL1nVs0OJ4= Message-ID: Date: Mon, 23 Sep 2024 16:13:26 +0200 List-Id: Production branch of FreeBSD source code List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-stable List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-BeenThere: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Sender: owner-freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird Subject: Re: Change to FreeBSD release scheduling and support period vs. To: Mark Millard , FreeBSD-STABLE Mailing List , Colin Percival , "gordon@freebsd.org" References: <2653A8B4-0CE9-4FEE-B816-74C5F34864E5.ref@yahoo.com> <2653A8B4-0CE9-4FEE-B816-74C5F34864E5@yahoo.com> Content-Language: cs-Cestina From: Miroslav Lachman <000.fbsd@quip.cz> In-Reply-To: <2653A8B4-0CE9-4FEE-B816-74C5F34864E5@yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-4.00 / 15.00]; REPLY(-4.00)[]; TAGGED_FROM(0.00)[Uu=QV=quip.cz=000.fbsd]; ASN(0.00)[asn:42000, ipnet:94.124.104.0/21, country:CZ] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4XC4jD4HfFz48Wd X-Spamd-Bar: ---- X-Rspamd-Pre-Result: action=no action; module=replies; Message is reply to one we originated On 23/09/2024 00:32, Mark Millard wrote: [..] > https://www.freebsd.org/security/unsupported/ > > lists: > > releng/13.0 13.0-RELEASE n/a April 13, 2021 August 31, 2022 > > and the announcement's wording with "supported until 5 years after > 13.0" is not explicit about the 2021-April-13 vs. 2022-Aug-31 for > the start of the 5 years --but the security table suggests the > 2021-Apr-13 as the start of the about 5 years. > > So it looks to me like releng/13.4 possibly should have "Expected > EOL" listed as something like "13.5-RELEASE + 3 months", much like > releng/14.1 lists "14.2-RELEASE + 3 months". The 5 years starts with the .0 release, which was April 2021. The August 2022 date is when 13.0 was EoL. It's "5 years of support for FreeBSD 13", not "5 years of support for FreeBSD 13 after 13.0 is EoL". > So it looks to me like releng/13.4 possibly should have "Expected > EOL" listed as something like "13.5-RELEASE + 3 months", much like > releng/14.1 lists "14.2-RELEASE + 3 months". In other words: it > probably should mention the next 13.* release number (13.5) in > some way. We always used to list "[next release] + 3 months" because we didn't know when that next release would be. But now that we have a schedule of upcoming releases, we don't need to leave it undefined like that. I should change the releng/14.1 line to say "March 31, 2025". May I humbly suggest that whilst it make sense to us who know how FreeBSD works, it doesn't make sense to a casual user. I guess devd would be the solution, maybe this could be documented/scripted for users with these issues? But it could be complicated, if audio-related ports also wants to be reconfigured for new values. What comes in mind is adding (if needed) and selecting a new sink for pulseaudio.
