We just had an incident, that this VM took the ReFS volume offline due to these events: stornvme: Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued Disk: An error was detected on device\Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation stornvme: the driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort1 Disk: An error was detected on device\Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation ReFS: The file system was unable to write metadata to the media backing vol= ume R:. A write failed with status "The specified request is not a valid operat= ion for the target device." ReFS will take the volume offline. It may be mounted again automatically. On the freebsd side, I have error messages like these: daemon[70039]: nvme_opc_delete_io_sq NOT PERMITTED queue id 0 / num_squeues= 4 syslogd: last message repeated 5 times Checking the source, a queue_id of 0 is invalid, so why would Windows attem= pt this? Could this be a consequence of issuing a "Reset device" to the nvme controller, and if= so, is there anything the bhyve drive could do to recover from this without failing the request l= ike it does at the moment? Note that this system is rather under powered for the task, so timeouts are= to be expected. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Wed Apr 10 13:58:55 2024 X-Original-To: virtualization@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4VF4Dv42fVz5H9Fn for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 13:58:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VF4Dv1Dmhz4cl2 for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 13:58:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1712757535; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=BAsuYzF91JbKbNYky3JY8GO1fCF2VWSf3VvTT/IexDxqBT6WGD6pjp827g5mFP3rojywB0 nVRytw9iqLGdtmqw63dn7UdH0JW9+10TTRHfw5WWPfTw9+jA23eBEM3bQxJ0e2mGwQjUms uHYAjrk4/YV5m3zMYgL6KdzDIzOcodBBXVaaDsjmIDIln6CDlKWBCcgW56umLweoxv3idh s9NB60MDjMXE7W8Ejva5iIF0BfaYJ3hRffg9ILUb6WzxTqBTYq7wjx39qohypBecMQHCx4 I9Mt/t1mwaVtRiS/m8fDYsDG2qRf9WhzTEPuUDj9PtlVYYpBtJodyQpvdfaAug== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1712757535; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=ajOHN1lPVHoLFvvGva6jmi6sUlqNNtwU7i7tYAbJS4k=; b=oNLiF62uoLOGfbnYykv8wOMIqjWsZeE6RtC6s5afRZsiBHxKKxJz+5WzkFkGpvFdQ1U/uh n3iOQWphpV/hG2DkKVi2p+WN3vW23h/x8K6/eguyoudH1PEdqjV4x+nUkCPT7+GGISZ/p0 5i737pBAIbuz8LHxzhyrN7xrx8/4PI1578IcTa1WrGNKmdzfPkSSs71cFAtl/kDLiPzfI6 i8uBETZLuGomCeOomtLsY+r7APfvPRQKeb6O+p6hPn8dvEEsW1NHLLHphZa7XDB1ItrHA4 IU0PcxfdJBi5Lu6MS+B8i9T0OfCOQM54rM0WYJEsMykGw9edPhB6AsF6S8B6Tg== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VF4Dv0g0gzgZy for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 13:58:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 43ADwsmV029037 for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 13:58:54 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 43ADws1P029036 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 13:58:54 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 277559] kldload vmm sometimes hangs kernel on arm64 Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2024 13:58:55 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 15.0-CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: markj@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc bug_status Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Discussion List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-virtualization List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D277559 Mark Johnston changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |markj@FreeBSD.org Status|New |Open --- Comment #4 from Mark Johnston --- vmmops_modinit() is using smp_rendezvous to execute code (arm_setup_vectors= ()) on each CPU. Presumably one or more of the CPUs is hanging in the vmm_call_hyp() call which initializes per-CPU state (various control regist= ers) in EL2. This is done in handle_hyp_init in vmm_hyp_exception.S. The first thing that routine does is initialize the vector table; I wonder = if that should be done last instead. Perhaps there is a stray EL2 exception occurring for some reason? It would be useful to add printf("%d", curcpu)s around the vmm_call_hyp() c= alls in arm_setup_vectors() to see if there is a pattern to the hangs. We can a= lso try modifying vmm_call_hyp() to return early after various points, so as to= try and narrow down exactly where the hang is happening. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Wed Apr 10 14:30:08 2024 X-Original-To: virtualization@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4VF4ww6VTvz5HCn9 for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 14:30:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VF4ww4tHJz4hfD for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 14:30:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1712759408; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=YyFwGXP3e5WL1OMmM0gIWkWJ5aftWMumCS3OquU/LtsbvFn5dF9R9+Idpg4f7qusYjy93E 9dwB84FQEyyTUgDOR8GPe809kJw0dIIP7Lw8rLxaAxAG3uzfxmI3mphrrndnPxUkr07/qw zYEgX5nLiVYfJSxNw8seteb84R7YrRKpxbb/S9NpYl7TorZ+EbgL626r0Baor1WjyCNCyT VWxfDTnV+53KIaH6GO2T0cz0uB0njBQerkatcpgitBY8VBH9Dj8ULk/ALIe9g8ze9+9lqL Fg5BV5ie4Gg10MjKXJQu0Lnw9WSwjJBiwVASsH+pUT18fTPlRtu8GwVzPNob6g== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1712759408; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=OubRae8oVuyv+9xtrgQCIiDIiweojmnGrtBWuuv51lk=; b=PO950TKFQLL5eBmoc+3DScly+kZOg4azBLF+93AFQ266XKgCs18BRiTGIXdHSi3OdcruAg 2swdaKw8jgWK1DcemSzIFn/6O2shID+4r1hmTvAxpIwGMnbIKJjAf6l8F9kGuga4797h/d Gha+n/9XpnaEwvc8JMuiPw0bheWpa7yMgS2vNbHz/ZeyUwdfm99DMa4TYqtjoiyI1N+Ns/ XdU7hTFTHVgrsYlsRkFnTAxeyobHwnZZM8Sdc07lFhmGmVmThmmTq+47z7fUSRjgdASsVG j8j22pPZzjorQ6K3ugEigT+5wyfkpCz3B4uGFiavNqQ1fm0e9HtLjcjjaidCvQ== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VF4ww4NTfzhbC for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 14:30:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 43AEU8Zt099631 for ; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 14:30:08 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 43AEU8J3099630 for virtualization@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 10 Apr 2024 14:30:08 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 271134] bhyve(8), bhyvectl(8), bhyve(4), bhyve_config(5): manual pages cleanup Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2024 14:30:08 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Documentation X-Bugzilla-Component: Manual Pages X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: bhyve X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: jason.mann@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: virtualization@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Discussion List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-virtualization List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D271134 Jason Mann changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |jason.mann@gmail.com --- Comment #9 from Jason Mann --- There is a malformed section in the man page, just before the CONFIGURATION VARIABLES section. Carr --- Moving the set of vbar_el2 was not the cause of improvement. I just saw two runs of over 2,000 successful kldloads before a hang without it. I also saw the system hang on the first load last night. I wonder if success of the first load makes the next load more likely to succeed, e.g. because the module reloads at the same address. Clock frequency does not seem to matter. I ran my kldload/kldunload loop w= ith powerd on running at 1416 MHz and with powerd off running at 600 MHz. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Thu Apr 11 23:08:51 2024 X-Original-To: virtualization@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4VFwP02PN5z5GKSH for ; The specification (section 5.6.1 in the 1.4 version) also defines the comma= nd specific error status 0x1 for Delete I/O Queue: Invalid Queue Identifier: The Queue Identifier specified in the command is invalid. This error is also indicated if the Admin Submission Queue identifier is specified. Not only is the NVMe emulation's behavior correct, but the UNH IOL [1] Comm= and Set Conformance tests check for this behavior in tests 1.4.2-5,7-8. Taking = this check out for Windows would make the conformance tests fail. As to why Windows is doing this? I don't know and would be curious to find = out why. But as to the failure you observe, I suspect the I/O queue deletion error i= sn't the cause, and it would have occurred prior to the device reset (all the I= /O queue delete commands would have failed). It would be interesting to see if= any Write commands to the device returned a non-good status as that would more closely match "ReFS: The file system was unable to write metadata" [1] https://www.iol.unh.edu/testing/storage/nvme --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
