It had started with suspend/resume "fixing" and the workaround from PR 263632 seems to have helped there too). I just got more data I need to work through tomorrow. Might put it all into a PR if the solution does not turn out to be obvious. - I've held back on MFCs to stable/13 as I need to figure out the state of EPOCH there. Some of the changes which did not go into 13.3-R are still pending because of that. - Opened a drm-kmod pull request to build with LINT kernels (I do a universe build for LinuxKPI changes with drm-kmod to make sure we do not break [the build] for that) - In addition to an updated iwlwifi (incl. firmware -- to be figured out how to install in the future, plain /boot/firmware or as .ko still), I have rtw88, rtw89 (scans once but no packets yet), and mt76 updated locally. I opened some LinuxKPI reviews for those and will keep working on getting all pre-reqs out. mt76 will need more work in that regard. Once the review queue is smaller, I'll update the github tree again. I do not anticipate to merge that into main before 14.1 is on its way as it would be too disturbing at this point. - Having received my USB debug cable I made the latest iwlwifi d3.c compile as well. I have not yet been able to test the setup. I also currently assume that the LinuxKPI suspend/resume bits are not all hooked up. If these need changing a lot of more testing will be needed also for drm-kmod. Hopefully all repreq for USB debugging can be sorted soon one way or another as that would be a nice "fix" to have for 14.1-R still. We'll see how much needs doing and if we can meet the timeline. - On my testbed (I have an arm64 machine with a alot of WiFi cards) 2 out of 7 iwlwifi cards worked after I fixed a request_module() hang on kldload. The others fail to download firmware. I have a similar experience with two iwn(4) cards where one works and the other does not (there we have to UP the interface to notice). I am trying to sort out if it is my local setup or something else. If anyone is testing wireless on arm64 with iwlwifi/rtw88 please let me know. I have the chnage queued to add iwn(4) to arm64 builds given at least one card seems to work as fine as on amd64. My rtw88/rtw89 cards seem fine by the way and so is ath(4) or are USB dongles so I am unsure if it's "Intel"-specific or not. - The iwn(4) crash made me look through older iwn(4) PRs and categorize them a bit or start cleanup/feedback. - I also, still locally, made LinuxKPI 802.11 debugging dependent on the net80211 compile time flag so we either have it all or nothing. Also noticed that arm64 kernels do not enable that so have a change for that too. Lots of health, Bjoern -- Bjoern A. Thanks. No, compiling it is but working not yet and not connected to any builds. Someone with a bit of time could probably make it work at least with 11abg for now. /bz -- Bjoern A. This device has 16 GB RAM, so it surely qualifies for this workaround... Is there something else I should have find there? After reboot, wireless works (tested with ping to gateway on wireless segment), but there are multiple wlan0: link state changed to DOWN rtw880: lkpi_iv_newstate: error 95 during state transition 2 (AUTH) -> 2 (AUTH) wlan0: link state changed to UP lines seen on console. As it can be a bit of a PITA. ;) But as I understand it; using "WPA DHCP" includes the wpa_supplicant(5) helper. So I think you must have to have at a wpa_supplicant.conf(5) that contains at least: eapol_version=3D2 ap_scan=3D1 Then it's as simple as: ifconfig wlan0 up && ifconfig wlan0 list scan I noticed you didn't include "list" in your command. These results are on the latest FreeBSD 14-RELEASE (FreeBSD leslie 14.0-RELEASE-p6 FreeBSD 14.0-RELEASE-p6 #0: Tue Mar 26 20:26:20 UTC 2024=20= =20=20=20 root@amd64-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/GENERIC amd64). The good news is that the basic packet passing is working and I can reach t= he internet, my NAS (over NFS), watch videos, and that sort of basic stuff. The bad news is that if I put the machine to sleep and then resume, even if= it doesn't crash during the first attempt, the connection never automatically works again. ifconfig mentions that it's still associated, but I can't ping anything. After putting the machine to sleep/resumed a few more times in a = row, I eventually got the machine to crash on the third attempt. This was connected on 2.4 GHz frequency. Attempting to connect to my 5 GHz channel never worked. I did see it associated for a few seconds, and then disconnected (same passphrase and I know both of my frequencies work perfec= tly fine with my other devices). Another thing is that the performance of the chip is just way to slow to be usable. I tried transferring a 2.1 GB file and after 6 minutes I gave up. Updating to -6 afterwards still kept the connection. The only thing I could think that may be the difference was that yesterday I was using a static ip configuration, where as for this test I was just using DHCP. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Sun Apr 14 15:36:17 2024 X-Original-To: wireless@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4VHZCQ2ctvz5GnZy for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 15:36:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VHZCQ1bhYz4L7p for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 15:36:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1713108978; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=iVw60Dcy1agKaY4aBRbWTiNqw0whihPdTZESOzxl9IstqlKI5y6tZaFbPaW4LRRtt6GzJo 0a9DArKqQWaoT0PmHaoyNZKE+w8yH2JK1JoVZ/dnIubLIypdGCEmVOv29aVdfTUdExkrTn M9xhViZC0+UUQ14KpAK2BbA0Pvbjz4H46WlT+/z7LhKr4jqpcwCYVlSD5HlPmyN+5ObWAd Pq0OcCGsBxZ303J3+OmP11TcwcTlyEgVT2nvU+Ycku2Rf5ajWgMhHcgCAk8hsZpGJ844Bk X0PbOfBkN1WUlCeKsFRnVJMNTBvFFh0g4OFPBm8sxVb1dccYQBFH5x+/fbWg9w== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1713108978; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=HjTQccw1a5OsffFkJupmIhopXmyK3RS9byqEkEVNciQ=; b=kX80E7nf1FPzHXOCdc534QHUD5hbUx2BdtPRZ5IUEiaywgNXE89B9ySzzU8oQQGcZqX/f1 YuVmkswSpFGLGKKVkGjTHqwp5I7Wf3kmn1iM1Q/FSWg9AkqU3oa7NUmP4S4HFyfBwmFB2V 2bpiuSqZN3uqVB29wmlfBjKgzkGwAXgaKpvFOuQuzOp4YICrxv5BqTqRz0AE1mYOHsKoYP EQxeZA8jLD2QZ6vi73LV7Cdf0bgAEYPJ5MkGSUreAGGO4NprwsajwYT58lMiIGOMfetMdg svwfaeMv11qH/5u/npI9WEUALyh8JnADVNRzvDTw54HWspAPhz4vUkTNbewoPg== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VHZCQ1CfszMPL for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 15:36:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 43EFaILW013224 for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 15:36:18 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 43EFaI3U013223 for wireless@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 15:36:18 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: wireless@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 263632] iwlwifi(4) crashes (freezes) a few seconds after resuming from sleep (suspend/resume not working; workaround known for now) Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2024 15:36:17 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: wireless X-Bugzilla-Version: Unspecified X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: jon@xyinn.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bz@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Discussions List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-wireless List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D263632 --- Comment #37 from Jonathan Vasquez --- Hey Bjoern, I'm on stable/14 (FreeBSD leslie 14.0-STABLE FreeBSD 14.0-STABLE #0 stable/14-n267200-50f771371356: Sat Apr 13 20:23:30 EDT 2024=20=20=20=20 root@leslie:/usr/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/GENERIC amd64) and have some updates. 1. I re-transferred that 684 MB file from my home NAS again using the wirel= ess card and instead of it taking 14m, it now only took 5m48s, so a big improvement. Doing some basic 'ls -lh' while it was transferring, it was basically transferring at about 2 MB per sec. 2. After the above, I tested sleep/resume. The system came back up without crashing, but the internet connection was broken even though 'ifconfig' said that it was associated to the network. I then did 4 more sleep/resume in sequence to see if the system would crash. It didn't :). 3. After those tests were done, I then tested tear down since I remember we mentioned that the iwlwifi driver/card doesn't like being teared down and it could crash. So I first did a `service netif restart && service routing restart` and the internet worked again (doing netif alone wasn't enough, I needed routing as well.. most likely because I'm using a static ip configuration: wlans_iwlwifi0=3D"wlan0" ifconfig_wlan0=3D"WPA inet 192.168.1.101 netmask 255.255.255.0" ifconfig_wlan0_ipv6=3D"inet6 accept_rtadv" defaultrouter=3D"192.168.1.1" create_args_wlan0=3D"country US regdomain FCC" I then did two more sleep/resume and it didn't crash (but internet broke again). 4. After this, I stress tested the tear down by doing the netif/routing restarts 8 more times in a row. It did not crash. This is all good news and is an indication that your stability fixes are working, although I'll need to use it throughout the days/weeks more to see= how stable it actually is. I'll be trying to play around with if_lagg and seeing how well it works for failover recovery between my ethernet interface that'= s on an type c dongle and the built in Intel AX210 wireless card, so I can more easily switch between locations at home ;). I did hear that FreeBSD's network stack in general is at an 802.11g level so regardless of what the driver is (Atheros, Intel, etc), the maximum speed w= ill be at g speeds. Do you know what's the status with upgrading FreeBSD's wifi stack to 802.11n/ac/ax? I believe I read in one of the recent FreeBSD foundation reports that more investments will start occurring for the wireless network stack specifically. If you ha= ve any links where I can read more up on that, that would be helpful. When using the suspend/resume are you using the workaround from (Comment #2= 7) https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D263632#c27 ? I assume n= ot given you are manually restarting afterwards? I wonder if these days rather than doing a full service restart basically if would be sufficient to do an ifconfig wlan0 down / ifconfig wlan0 up instea= d? As it goes for more speed, ath/iwn/run/rtwn/.. do 11n; I hope we'll get b= ack to that for iwlwifi and rtw88 (and other LinuxKPI based drivers) in the ne= xt weeks. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Sun Apr 14 20:22:46 2024 X-Original-To: wireless@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4VHhYz6Dk8z5H1DQ for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:22:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VHhYz5BmFz4q55 for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:22:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1713126167; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=wsQ3LLiR0NXEQbbsv+MNLcujf+2Kl/v8aZQI3VE26TnyWxpi5VLH9ENu6799g6bkRqPfcz CCSuBTjILA2nAh8MJShH8l96+z3luxm88dZF2jiHRoz0lUfYXl6pd6910l6gHhzzzsyrLf yi2K++bSZJyjWKheOUYzvuueeJv3CCwLLuO6AE6Xnrw/95o7sh3JMMSFmWRDZ3HQTluTWi Rnq08HeX0Q31Rapi1FKfOzvUVMvXhL7qHReqLIpuMJaSv/t/z0XT8Y12vA47Ezo/xJtrjF u1oU5E7HWjlX0NFdmYQEajlsR2y/tASU51WkCzcbix7fHw2mbvOrT0tv98yfGg== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1713126167; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=u4loIosCCfbJ6mmF87TwY8SGVXRolkuWPEtX5ajgeWg=; b=GdvWhh1FJpNLS/mOzeeWNnVXyq18GFLDzuYbX/7JlfdBHCL+shu3hpupcGcw+54tIsSF0L Bmn+WqaI2J+Tnb5KjDu12cPQq/Jr78KkZEOJw1FpWO2c0G7uCtk0IltUo7+O1wxsJgiXeb kin/tjEuCUlbwfmSL7tgWmhEQSCu2ZqBG9TRMriOGwQy8SDrX31Xx9S9qWxvrqOs1h5eOO xIQUaGZFkBt/qGWzryikyRcA9ikTSp3PoNW2rQzr0lJjCYqDALVN8BXjC3XCcK/2dlo38J VbGx4KqJfk7WFqLVwdTU5frmYcDQeNTEHB27UE9P++CcJBMHlfpV9JvTdagZTw== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4VHhYz4p9DzWcC for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:22:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 43EKMlLf069055 for ; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:22:47 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 43EKMlFL069054 for wireless@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:22:47 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: wireless@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 263632] iwlwifi(4) crashes (freezes) a few seconds after resuming from sleep (suspend/resume not working; workaround known for now) Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:22:46 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: wireless X-Bugzilla-Version: Unspecified X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: jon@xyinn.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bz@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Discussions List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-wireless List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D263632 --- Comment #40 from Jonathan Vasquez --- You're welcome Bjoern.
